ARCHIVED Diagnosis
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Apparently it was the pathology report. He took tissue biopsies and I don't think he reads them. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt awful. There were days when I wasn't "so bad" but I definitely wasn't normal. I accept completely being NCGI, and I am glad that it's taken seriously (or starting to be). I did get upset when my doctor told me a little gluten was okay...I happen to disagree, as I am sensitive to small amounts of gluten, or at least was when I was gluten-free. So... -
ARCHIVED Fertility Issues For Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance
GlutenFreeAustinite posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
So I'm not pregnant, or planning to get pregnant, for a very long time, but I just got diagnosed with NCGI (though it's possible I could be celiac, I suppose, due to testing malfunctions). I was wondering if anyone with gluten sensitivity/NCGI had problems with fertility...I know it's an issue with celiac, but anything else? -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was gluten-free for roughly 18 months but then started a challenge that lasted almost three months. -
ARCHIVED Diagnosis
GlutenFreeAustinite posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So I had a negative biopsy today (four total taken from my duodenum), and my doctor has diagnosed me as gluten sensitive, which I prefer to call Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance. I get the impression he doesn't take it as seriously (in fact, he told me that once I feel better/recover from the three months of gluten challenge, I can probably eat some small amount... -
ARCHIVED Gained Weight Before Diagnosis
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to Brittato's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been on a gluten challenge but I've gained weight too. Not a ton, mind, just five or six pounds, but I hate that feeling. It's because I was eating tons of sugary foods, as I knew that whatever my results were, I was still going gluten-free at the end, and would never eat most of this stuff ever again. Worst justification ever. But seriously... -

ARCHIVED Maybe This Gluten Challenge Is Too Challenging For Me...
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to heathenly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Haha thanks. It comes and goes in cycles for me. Like I'm miserable for several days/weeks and then I can almost convince myself that I feel normal again and then sick once more. I'm gluten-free for good now, after breaking out in a horrible rash that isn't gone yet and I suspect won't be until after I am gluten-free for a while. -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Done Yesterday
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Right...I'm concerned because I believe he only took one biopsy from my duodenum. Gah. I'm nervous. I'd hate for him to not diagnose me celiac because he biopsied the wrong patch of my intestines. But thanks for the feedback! -
ARCHIVED Getting Out Of A Meal Plan At College
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you! If I can't get them to waive the whole thing, I'd be happy with just paying a portion of the plan, and supplementing with my own foods. And I'll definitely post with what happens...I have another agonizing 24 hours before I know the diagnosis (not long at all in the scheme of things, but I'm just ready to know NOW haha). Colorado State sounds... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Done Yesterday
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, my thought process is that I was gluten free for 18 months and only went on gluten again 2 1/2 months ago. So it probably isn't as "severe" as it would have been if I'd been eating it all my life. Plus I'm only 18, so there's hardly been time for long term damage. I thought I saw some odd mucosal patterns (also seen in celiac patients) but it could... -
ARCHIVED Getting Out Of A Meal Plan At College
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah, I am going to contact the disability center on campus, but I'm waiting until I have the diagnosis, because I need to have that in hand before they will even talk to me...I checked out their website. I have the finances to purchase my own food (if I'm not paying a meal plan), and will be able to bring my own kitchen supplies (they have a dorm kitchen... -
ARCHIVED Getting Out Of A Meal Plan At College
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thank you. The official diagnosis will most likely be in tomorrow so here's to hoping my school will be kind and understanding. They honestly provide like three gluten-free items, but maybe they'd be more careful if they had an actual celiac in the house...I don't think they do at the moment. -
ARCHIVED Getting Out Of A Meal Plan At College
GlutenFreeAustinite posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
So I'm heading off to college in the fall, and I'm currently awaiting a diagnosis. Currently, I will have to pay $1639.99 a semester, and I've been to their dining hall, and it's limited in terms of gluten free. There's a small cooler with a few bread items, a salad bar (with high CC risk), and a few vegetable items I'd feel safe eating (plain baked potatoes... -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Done Yesterday
GlutenFreeAustinite posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
So my GI doctor did an EGD on me yesterday, and he said that all of the slides looked normal (my esophagus and stomach weren't inflamed, and my duodenum wasn't visibly damaged), but that celiac is a microscopic diagnosis, so we're waiting for the results of the actual tissue biopsies. Will the fact that my duodenum isn't scalloped affect whether or not my... -
ARCHIVED Best Bread Brand?
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to WinterSong's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Udi's bread, muffins, cinnamon rolls (though I HATE the frosting packets, super annoying), hamburger buns, and pizza crusts, though I haven't tried their bagels. One thing with Rudi's...they DO make a NOT-gluten free bread too, and I've seen a few stores put the gluten-free and the not gluten-free next to each other. Just be careful when buying... -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
That's exactly what's happening to me--it gets better at night and returns during the day. I'm going gluten-free tomorrow and am also going to try low-iodine. -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yeah, the stuff under my arms appears to be responding to the Clindamycin, but I stopped all of my antibiotics because I broke out in this head-to-toe rash. My legs/feet/arms/elbows are covered in bright red dots. They get better after a dose of the prednisone but resurge the next day. Very odd. -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I asked my GI doc about the strange rash, and he said that while it would be an atypical appearance for DH, he said it was possible, especially as the prednisone wasn't really working consistently. But I don't know. -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Thanks....my general practitioner wanted me on the prednisone and the GI doctor said it was fine, so I took another dose and it's clearing up, thank heavens. I won't be able to take it until after the biopsy, but it's doing better. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement! -
ARCHIVED When Was Your Celiac Triggered?
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to Victoria6102's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As a kid, I constantly had eye and ear infections. I distinctly remember the Christmas I was three years old, and I refused to take my eye drops to treat a nasty case of pinkeye. My dad "called" Santa Claus to tell him I was not being a good girl by refusing to take my meds...needless to say, I complied instantly. I was the one kid in ten to go tubing... -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
My test is actually Tuesday......but my mom and I don't think that the dose I took today has had or will have an effect. The rash is still as bad as it was and I've been having normal gluten symptoms all day. I'm hoping that it doesn't cause problems but I'll call my GI's nurse tomorrow, as well as my general practitioner. And yeah, I totally agree... -
ARCHIVED New Rash :(
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yeah, I'm not taking it anymore.....I only had one dose, that should be okay, right? -
ARCHIVED Prednisone
GlutenFreeAustinite replied to GlutenFreeAustinite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yes! I had horrible migraines that were remediated by a gluten free diet that I followed for two years, though probably not as strictly as I should have (CC issues, I never ate actual gluten unless it was an accident), but wanted definitive answers through a diagnosis. So I've been eating gluten for two months, and all these random symptoms have cropped...
