  1. Oh no! I haven't taken that brand in a while, but I take the Equate (Walmart) version of the product. Anyone know if that's safe?
  2. Hi all, So I've had quite an intense couple of years in terms of destroying myself physically. I was a year-round swimmer, practicing 5 days a week for an hour and a half each day, and I injured my shoulder. Nine months of physical therapy concurrent with training, and no progress. So I quite swimming, and the shoulder problems only got worse. My shoulder...
  3. Boyfriend is totally awesome. I've been letting him keep on eating gluten with me (though he really doesn't do it thaaaat frequently anymore) because I'm going to be doing a gluten challenge/test in a few weeks, and there's no point in having him jump through hoops at this point to avoid it when I'm going to be eating it myself. After said test, I'm going...
  4. I did that with Rice Krispie treats during my junior year of high school. I was attending a semester school program in a small town in Wisconsin, and the giris' house mother assured me they were gluten free. Nope!
  5. I used to be severely lactose/casein intolerant. I've been off gluten for a year and a half, and I gradually was able to tolerate ice cream, heavy whipping cream, and butter. Any aged cheeses, cheese, yogurt, half and half, etc, almost killed me. Now I can eat it all.
  6. Over the past few months, I've been waking up with stomachaches that last the whole day. They aren't severe, more of an "irritation" than anything else, but I'm trying to figure out the cause. I've also noticed it's taking a lot longer for cuts/bruises/acne to heal, and my vision has been blurred (I am severely nearsighted, so that's not unusual, but I...
  7. I definitely think Boyfriend would be willing to accommodate. My question is....is it really necessary? Am I really damaging myself internally, even if I don't get sick, just from him?
  8. Thank you, researchmomma! I just did. I did exactly what you did with your daughter. I went to a pediatric neurologist and he (along with my current allergist) said not to eat anything that made my headaches worse. Turns out gluten did that, and for a while we thought milk did too, but I can eat that now with no effect. I'm definitely going to...
  9. Yeah, that's entirely possible. Part of the reason I need to change allergists is because my current one did not want to run a food panel scratch test. I know there are other tests, so that might be an option too. I do react fairly quickly to wheat--that is the one I most commonly ingest. My household doesn't often eat barley or rye anyway, and I've only...
  10. I have been seeing an allergist for about six months, but our insurance changed and I don't think I can go back to her. Not to mention that she reaaaalllly didn't think I had "celiac" and was very resistant to testing me for food allergies, let alone celiac. So I'm planning to go back to my GP and talk to her and see what I should do. I'll beg for a diagnosis...
  11. To clear any concerns up, I only drink at home or under the supervision of my parents. In my state, Texas, it is legal for kids ages 17 and up to drink in public IF parents are present, and at home with parental consent/presence. So don't worry. I'm definitely not paranoid about it....honestly, I only asked because I know a few who can't tolerate scotch...
  12. It was definitely not a normal reaction. But I had consumed gluten earlier in the week and was still recovering from that. I know, of course, that all that hurts me is not gluten. I am young and still learning all about celiac. I read a lot of seemingly paranoid things on the Internet and have many questions of my own, so I have come here. None of my family...
  13. Hahaha. You are too kind. But I apologize if I sounded whiny or anything....it's just that I do feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. I know I will need to be gluten-free, so I will do that if all else fails. And I am hoping that if celiac comes back negative, my dr will write it down as non-celiac so I can still qualify for ADA. Grandmother...
  14. As someone relatively close to your age, and a female who is not "socially awkward," I can honestly say I don't really like when I see guys who are drunk/tipsy/buzzed/whatever. As I will be the girl not drinking my way through college, it's nice to see someone who doesn't drink too. But if you really want to drink, bring something you can drink and stick...
  15. Perhaps I should clarify my earlier post. I know I have a problem with gluten. I've gotten sick enough times this semester that I don't really doubt that any more. Thing is, I will be going off to college next fall, and I've seen my best friend, who also is gluten intolerant and in her junior year of college, struggle with food until she was allowed to...
  16. Hi all, I've been gluten-free for roughly 18 months to treat constant migraines and sporadic gastritis. The diet has been greatly successful, and I manage it well, for the most part. I take more risks--eating things out of non-designated fryers, eating "safe" non-certified foods, etc--but no noticeable issue from that. Yet, I test myself, because...
  17. That's interesting. I've never thought of myself as extremely sensitive (I don't really react to CC--can eat things made in a shared fryer without getting sick), but for some reason, scotch really messed with my stomach the next day.
  18. So last night, I drank one glass of MacAllan's single malt scotch. I've read dozens of places that celiacs can enjoy scotch, and that it is gluten free, despite its barley origins. Well. Apparently not. Within 10 minutes of consumption, I had sinus drainage and my voice dropped half an octave. Then today, I've had a stomachache. We'll see if it...
  19. Hey everyone, So I've been gluten-free for a year and a half, and I've been pretty lax about cross contamination. I share a toaster/condiments with my gluten-eating family, will eat stuff not certified gluten free (after checking the ingredients, of course), etc. I've never noticed any traditional "glutening symptoms," but I don't know if there's a...
  20. I definitely get that---the thing is, I don't seem to have any reaction whatsoever. My boyfriend has never made me sick. But what I wasn't sure about was if I could be harming myself without having a reaction? At any rate, I brought it up to Boyfriend tonight and he said he'd just stop eating gluten around me if it was that big a deal.
  21. Bella-Bella, Thank you. I was actually talking to my mother about this the other day. This is the same allergist who forgot to give me an inhaler after I was diagnosed with asthma, and I'm wondering if this is a similar situation. Regardless, I probably should have one, even if I never ever use it. And I'm sure it''s terribly expensive. But dairy...
  22. I don't know if your denomination has any particular rules about this, but my church was very accepting of me when I became gluten-free. They allowed me to bring rice cakes the first couple of times, and then afterwards, the church has always had rice cakes for me and the other celiacs. So I would ask the pastor/priest and find out if they can help.
  23. So I've been gluten-free for a year and a half, and my boyfriend of five and a half months is not. He is quite respectful of my dietary needs, and will often order gluten-free so I can try whatever it is, but he does eat bread, pizza and things with bread crumbs around me. That doesn't bother me at all, and he's quite supportive, but after he finishes eating...
  24. Movie popcorn butter has always made me feel weird. I hate the taste of it, but my boyfriend loves it, and he's the one who buys popcorn. I'm also pretty sensitive to MSG, so maybe that's what's in it.
  25. Thanks everyone for the support--I've been thinking I should change allergists for a while now, just haven't really gotten to it. She thinks I'm sensitive, possibly, but NOT celiac, so I don't really know what I am, but I suppose that doesn't really matter. I've actually been thinking celiac has plagued my family for some time. My maternal grandmother...
