ARCHIVED Gluten Free 1 Month, Questions
Jetamio replied to tklp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just have to echo everything that has been said. I never had digestive issues before going gluten free but I had lots of others. Now that I've been gluten free, I found out, the hard way, I have digestive issues when I accidently consume gluten. Ugh! The first few weeks are the hardest. I was starving all the time but eating lots of protein helped a... -
ARCHIVED Going To Try Giving Up Lactose, Too
Jetamio replied to Pisqualie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Don't despair! It's hard sometimes but there are some good substitutes. I love almond milk and almond milk ice cream. Very good. Smart Balance has a good butter substitute. Cheese can be tough but Daiya is ok. You might get dairy back later too. -
ARCHIVED Even My Mom Can Be Rude About Celiac
Jetamio replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Aw I'm sorry you had that happen on Mother's Day! I find mixed responses in my family. My daughter has been fantastic about it. My mom is trying to understand it more but won't get tested herself (she has IBS, MS and Fibromyalgia). So far the only real response she gives is a grunt and a "that sucks" when I explain what gluten free means. Hang in there... -
I use Bare Minerals. I'm very light as well and it works well with my skin tone. It's more expensive than Revlon but it lasts forever. I have a hard time with makeup matching too. I think you can buy at Target now but you can go by their stores in the mall or Sephora and get a sample first.

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease And Anxiety
Jetamio replied to cristalbleu13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes! I believe my anxiety is directly related to gluten and casein. I've battled anxiety on and off for a long time but a couple of years ago before I gave up dairy, my anxiety was unbearable. Every little thing would trigger it and it would last all day. I gave up dairy and it improved as did some of my other symptoms but it was still there. Since going... -
Hang in there! Gluten is a beast.

ARCHIVED My Family
Jetamio replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Mnicole - convincing family is tough. I've been trying to get my mom to get tested. She was diagnosed with IBS over 20 years ago, has MS and Fibromyalgia...tons and tons of symptoms but she hasn't agreed yet. Every time we talk I share the positive changes I'm finding and every so often I suggest she think about it. She's stubborn but the apple doesn... -
ARCHIVED Feeling Down And Out And Frustrated And....
Jetamio replied to Trudyjerry's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you can have almonds, Almond milk and almond milk ice cream have been a big help for my dessert cravings. -
ARCHIVED First Real Gutening - Ugh!
Jetamio replied to Jetamio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Crissy - As long as I eat "real" food, I do ok. Fruit, veggies, some meat now, rice, etc. Sauces, spices and packaged food are the big threat for me. MSG has a bunch of "hidden" names and sometimes it is hard to tell. I do better avoiding it now that I'm gluten-free. We have a good spice shop here in CO that has tons of gluten free spices that are also... -
ARCHIVED First Real Gutening - Ugh!
Jetamio replied to Jetamio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks everyone. I'm really drinking the water up as we speak. I take allergy pills every day and I read (here maybe?) that can help with reactions too so I'm hoping. I'm trying to trace over my meals yesterday and see what it might have been. I noticed my tummy was off last night before bed but the sinus stuff hit like a truck this morning. Irish... -
Hi everyone, I am positive I glutened myself yesterday - still trying to figure out what exactly but I think it was a seasoning I bought. It's the first big screw up I've made since I went gluten-free (had a taste of gluten sauce by accident last month) and it is an excellent reminder to myself to be more careful! I should have read more carefully. My...

ARCHIVED Do You Bake More Since Going Gluten-Free?
Jetamio replied to Minette's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't tried baking anything yet though I really want to. I just don't know where to start! The flour combinations are a little intimidating for me and I haven't wanted to spend money on stuff I might not like. I'm going to have to give it a try though. I'm missing certain things. -
ARCHIVED 4 Months And Getting Easier
Jetamio replied to Adalaide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Congrats! I'm glad you're feeling better and doing well. -
ARCHIVED Just A Vent
Jetamio replied to MitziG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've used Daiya as well and it is pretty good. I've found it at Whole Foods and the big King Soopers in my area (Colorado). I haven't checked Vitamin Cottage but a friend of mine said she's see it at a couple of the bigger stores. -
ARCHIVED Seasonal Allergies Better?!?!?
Jetamio replied to BabsV's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh I hope this is true! I've The last few years I've had what I thought were year round "allergies" but alas, it was massive infections and gluten. Now that I've been off the gluten a couple of months, I can tell the difference and I feel like this is the first spring in a long time that I've had "real" allergies. It is amazing what we get used to! These... -
ARCHIVED Ladies, Did Anyone Notice A Change In Your Menstrual Cycle?
Jetamio replied to mommyof4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi. I'm glad someone posted this. I've noticed my cycle actually improving. My first cycle sans gluten was a little rough and two days early but I had been on tons of antibiotics pre-diagnosis and my doctor said it was normal to be off. Then, I leveled back out to my normal schedule and my PMS has been lots better. I knew my cycle was coming but the... -
Hi everyone. I've always been hypoglycemic but since going gluten-free, I'm having a lot of issues. I was eating vegan prior to my diagnosis but added small amounts of animal protein (eggs, chicken) at my doctor's recommendation. It has helped with the hunger. However, my blood sugar has been dipping a lot and my curve show's that I'm reactive. My endo...

ARCHIVED Pregnant And Nauseated - Help!
Jetamio replied to Ntheodo1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
When I was pregnant, small, frequent snacks helped keep things at bay as did "dry foods" - many of which I couldn't have now. LOL Maybe dry gluten-free cereal if you can have that? Baked potatoes and scrambled eggs helped me too. Ginger tea is nice too - you can drink it warm or iced. I lost a lot of weight the first trimester because of morning sickness... -
ARCHIVED Need To Vent, Having A Hard Time
Jetamio replied to sharilee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been having a lot of cravings lately too! I haven't been gluten free very long but lately everything I shouldn't have, looks fantastic. I mistakenly was glutened a couple weeks ago and immediately my DH spot that wasn't healed all the way broke out again. UGH! Can you have some good quality dark chocolate? I'm avoiding soy but do well with small... -
ARCHIVED Do You Get Symptoms After Eating Casein?
Jetamio replied to GFreeMO's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
For me, I gave up dairy before I figured out gluten but it definitely affects me. I get terrible gas and belching (sorry, TMI) and my heart rate increases. I get congested and ache all over. And it lasts for three days or so. Similar to my gluten reactions but not nearly as many symptoms. I am hoping to get at least a small amount of dairy back. It... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawl Symptoms...
Jetamio replied to SwtRandi's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Pretty much everything you just said! I had withdrawl my first week and I was hungry ALL the time. Nothing filled me up and I felt emotional. After the first week it has gotten better. I've been gluten free almost 8 weeks now and I still have days where I feel like I'm detoxing or withdrawing yet. Some days I have super low energy and muscle aches and... -
You all make really good points. I talked to him a bit on Sunday about gluten again and what it has done to my body. He didn't say much so we'll see. He has suggested dinner this week sometime and I'm going to be direct if he wants to go some where I can't. I've suggested a couple of places that I know are good options as well. If he isn't supportive...

Thanks. More blisters have appeared today so I suspect it may take a bit to heal up again. Just when my arm was starting to look normal again. LOL!
-
Hi everyone. The beginning of this year, prior to my blood work, I got a nasty spot on my arm that at first I thought was from a reaction to a bite or something but it stayed for months! Long story short, it was DH. Went gluten free and it finally started clearing up. I can still see the mark in the area where it was but my skin marks really easy. ...

ARCHIVED Gfd Making It Very Hard To Stay True!
Jetamio replied to Cujy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am casien free and find that the Silk brand of almond milk is fantastic on cereal. I get the original (not sweetened) had have it on the Chex cereals that are gluten free. It's really good. I found out early on that large amounts of soy does odd things to me. Some of the gluten free products out there have a lot of soy in them and it bothers me...
