ARCHIVED Toaster Oven Should Be gluten-free
cgilsing replied to floridanative's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it is really a personal decision based on how sensitive you are. I have read that people on this board have bought all new pots and pans (gluten can "hide" in teflon), and new appliances. I personally have not bought any new appliances or pots and pans, and I do just fine. I always cook 100% gluten free in my house so I feel that my pots and pans... -
ARCHIVED Most Annoying Comments/questions
cgilsing replied to carriecraig's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The most annoying comment that I have heard came from an aquaintance that had just found out I had Celiac disease. He said "Oh yeah, I've heard of that! I have a friend who's ex-girlfriend had that. It didn't work out with them though.....she was just a hypocondriac....she wouldn't eat ANYTHING!" My hubby and I sat there with our mouths hanging open... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease And College
cgilsing replied to debi4956's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Good luck with your application to IW! It is a great school, and the fact that it is smaller than many of the state schools will probably be to your benifit in regards to celiac disease. Plus I am partial to universities in the Bloomington/Normal area . I echo everyone else when I say that you should talk to whichever school she is accepted to about her... -
ARCHIVED Glutened!
cgilsing replied to rache's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
make sure you get plenty of sleep and let your body heal. I have found that helps as much as anything! Have you ever tried ginger to ease your stomach? I have found that gluten-free ginger snap cookies by mi-del help me.....also I know it sounds silly, but I swear that sea-bands (little braclets that you can buy at the drug store....they are supposed... -
I was thinking about the delima of eating out and eating at friends' homes the other day, and remembering how nice it used to be doing both without worry. I don't know about you guys, but I would love to be able to have a meal out without risking illness! One thing that I thought would be fun is to start a cooking club with other people with celiac disease...

Hi Everybody! I just wanted to let you all know...It's a BOY!! Little Ian is doing just fine, and is right on track at a whopping 11oz! We got some terrific photos. There is one that you can even see his little eyes, nose, and mouth! It's just amazing that he is so little, but so perfect! Well, I just wanted to let you ladies know! Christine

ARCHIVED I Think We're Going To Start Trying
cgilsing replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Oh B, I'm so excited for you! I'm sure you will do fine! I think in the first few months there isn't a whole lot that can be done to ease morning sickness (a stupid name for something that lasts all day) and tiredness. I have been lucky during my pregnancy to have an employer that has worked with me to adjust my schedual to something that is do-able for... -
Hi Everybody! How are all you ladies doing? I was wondering if any of you had a hard time gaining enough weight while pregnant....My doctor hasn't said anything about it yet, but I was just reading online that by now (18 weeks) I should have gained 5 to 10 pounds. I have only gained 3! I don't know what else to do to gain....I eat 3 meals a day and...

I'm not sure what that means, but I did read someone else's post in a different bored that said that her baby was fussy if she breast fed while she was glutened...

ARCHIVED Poison Control
cgilsing replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is unbelievable! I echo everyone else when I say call walgreens and complain about that idiot! That is his job to help you with questions like that (not poisen control's job....I can believe that guy didn't speak English! He would be a big help in an emergancy!). It's not like that pharmasist is getting paid McDonald's wages either! That guy is making... -
Hi BK, Please don't give up! Everybody is right....you will get there. How long have you been gluten-free? It took me a really long time to not only become 100% gluten-free, but also to be symptom free. It's a mixed feeling when you find out after 6 months that you are still eating something with gluten on a regular basis, but it happens. Keep talking...

Hi Everybody and Merry belated Christmas! I have to say though that if I never attend another Holiday feast I won't miss it. I have great friends and family and they want to include me in meals and make everthing gluten-free so I won't have to worry about it. I want to say upfront that I am very greatful for that and that I have people in my life that...

I'm not sure what the statistics for the possibility of passing celiac disease to your children is. It is hereditary, but at least in my familiy the level of sensitivity varies greatly. My mom is gluten sensitive, but she isn't nearly as sensitive as I am. As long as she doesn't eat cookies or cake or something she is ok (doesn't worry about soy sauce...

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like everybody is saying, if you are on a strict gluten-free diet your risks aren't any higher than a person without celiac disease! I was diagnosed in August of 2004 and in September of 2005 I got pregnant on the first try! My pregnancy has been uneventful and healthy so far. I have heard that babies of mothers with...

ARCHIVED celiac disease And College
cgilsing replied to debi4956's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi Debi! I am also from Illinois although I am now out of college (and was not diagnosed until after college). I graduated from Illinois State in Bloomington 3 years ago though and I know a lot about the area (my in-laws live there and we visit regularly) I'm originally from Decatur (Millikin University), and I now live in east-central Illinois and visit... -
ARCHIVED Women, Have U Used Depo Provera Before Symptoms Started?
cgilsing replied to jen3899's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have never been on Depo Provera, but I know for a fact that taking birth contol pills triggered the onset of a lot of my health problems. I was taking a tri-phasal pill and within a month a had an orange-sized cyst and endometriosis. I switched Doctors and was told that the tri-phasal pill was the worst thing I could be on and the fluxuating hormones... -
Hi Everybody! I had to tell you guys....I had my 1st ultrasound yesterday! I had some problems over the weekend (that turned out to be nothing at all) but they had me come in for and ultrasound! They say that he/she (they can't tell yet) looks great! He's the right size for his (or her) age and he looks really healthy! I got to take home pictures of...

Hey Julie! Ah yes, the toilet at work...I lucked out in that I now have my own toilet and don't have to share! I'm a graphic artist for a screen printing company, and part of my pre-pregnancy job was to spray an adhesive on the outgoing film from my office. The spray had huge labels on it: "DO NOT USE IF YOU ARE PREGNANT OR TRYING TO GET PREGNANT" Before...

hehe...that's cute! Ener-g was the 1st gluten-free food I tried after being diagnosed.....I didn't even TRY another bread for 4 months after that!

Julie - Congrats on your little boy news!! Now you can start all the fun clothes shopping!! How many weeks are you? I'm 13 weeks and I can't find out the sex untill I'm 19 weeks. I want to know now! So, do you have any little boy names picked out yet? I'm glad to hear you are feeling better too! I went through a couple of really bad weeks myself...

I haven't said anything to a Dr. about it yet. I just came across the pictures of the rash last week. And I have a bad habit to chalking up medical symptoms to being "nothing serious" (probably part of the reason I wasn't diagnosed with celiac disease for a long time ), so I have never said anything before about it. I've had symptoms of celiac disease...

Hi Everybody! I have a strange symptom and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. I have heard several times that people with Celiac disease are more prone to developing Lupus than other people, so since I have Celiac disease I thought I should probably educate myself some about the symptoms of Lupus. I started looking around online and I kept...

Congratulations to everyone who is pregnant! There really are a lot of us right now! Love must be in the air! Anya - We really are close together! My first doc appt. is also on October 25! You will have to let me know how it goes! I'm really excited about it! I don't really know what I'm expecting to happen.....but I'm anxious all the same! For...

Thank you everybody for your responses! I have been trying some of the suggestions and my situation is improving Thank God! Julie - I really hope your morning sickness gets better! I haven't had it too bad yet...but I have noticed that eating something small every couple of hours instead of big meals seems to keep the queeziness at bay! OH and I don...
