  1. I would just pack a cooler with some home-made stuff. Really I think anything you make at home would probably make it in the cooler for 5 hours. I have a similar situation right now. My husband grew up about 4 hours from here in a little town. I'm pregnant and they are going to have a baby shower for me over there. The only restaurant in town is Applebee...
  2. I wish I could figure out how to make those!!! I've tried before, but it never turns out right I've been gluten-free for a year and a half and the thought of crab rangoons still makes my mouth water! If I ever get a recipe I can make work I'll be sure to give it to you!
  3. I know exactly what you mean! I have been gluten-free for a year and a half now and even so I have nagging little problems that don't ever seem to go away. I went to a GI one time to try and work out what I could do about them (nothing serious....sleep disturbances, dry eyes, skin and hair, never quite get rid of the bloating, dental issues..etc.) and he...

    ARCHIVED Communion

I agree on that point! I was talking to my mom about it the other day and she had a good point.....if we knew what specific grape vine the wine Jesus drank came from we would be required to only drink that particular wine.....but we don't.....so any old wine is ok! I don't think Jesus intended for us to be so picky.

    ARCHIVED Communion

Recently there has been some research related to sourdough bread and Celiac disease. What is suspected is that during the process of making sour dough bread (in which the grains are soaked for a length of time in a solution) that the dangerous aspects of wheat are destroyed. So I was wondering......since the Catholic Church's (and I suspect Lutheran's as...
  7. Oh Klemmen! Trust me, I don't mind talking about him!! I'm glad that you guys like the name! We thought it was somewhat unique, but one that everyone has heard too. Plus it's a good name for both a little boy and a grown man. We didn't want him to have a cutsie name and then hate it when he's 35! Oh yeah I have felt him move! He does jumping jacks...
  8. I do most (all) of the cooking around here, so both my husband I eat gluten-free for the most part. Sometimes he will get fast food for lunch, he like regular crackers and if we go out to eat he eats whatever he wants. It doesn't bother me at all to see him eat regular food! I'm just thankful that he is considerate enough to watch out for what I eat and...
  9. The "hysteria" here is due to the fact that McDonald's has been assuring us for years that their fries were safe to eat and were fried in dedicated friers to insure our health. There were many many people who ate those fries on a regular basis in good faith that the McDonald's corporation had their and their children's best interest in mind. Now we have...
  10. WOW! I leave for a day and look what happens!! All I have to say is I KNEW IT!! I have only eaten McD FF a couple of times since going gluten-free and I got sick each and every time! Wow that really pisses me off! Does anyone know if there are any Celiac Organizations that could put some pressure on McD executives better than we could as individuals...
  11. I always get C when I'm glutened.....I always get it for a few days before my period too.
  12. Thanks! It worked!
  13. I'm having a problem updating my avatar picture. I tried to update it last Friday from my home computer, and all of our home computers show the new picture with my posts. However, my work computer is still showing the old picture. Do have any ideas how to fix that?
  14. Thanks Jenvan! I'll have to try it out!
  15. Hi Klemmen! I tried to change my picture last Friday, but I don't know if it worked. I updated it at home and the computers on our network updated, but then I checked the board at work, and it was still the earlier picture. Hopefully I'll get it worked out soon! I would think that cosmetics would list gluten as wheat protein! Do have a reaction...
  16. I was at the grocery store yesterday and REALLY wanted some yogurt. I know from previous experience that the flavored Dannon yogurts are not gluten-free. Praire Farms does not have a contact #, and I'm too lazy (and impatient) to write them a letter. I thought I would call and check on the Breyer's yogurt. I called the number and the lady answered the...
  17. Hi FS! I myself haven't read it , but eveybody says that dangerous grains is the best book out there! Apparently it really explains a lot about how glutn affects your body. If you petition to outlaw gluten I will support you 100%! In the meantime though, you can still enjoy food on a gluten-free diet I remember the night I was diagnosed.....I really...
  18. Thank you guys! He's our little sweetie! I'm due June 5th. That one was actually taken when I was 13 weeks! We have had another ultrasound since then (at 20 weeks) and it is soooo clear I just can't believe it! You can see his little face perfectly! I'll have to change it to the newest one! Ok, you guys opened a flood gate...I'll quit gushing now...
  19. Hi FS and welcome! Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley that is harmful to people with celiac disease. So if you ever see wheat, rye, or barley on an ingredient list then it is NOT gluten free. The problem in identifying non-gluten-free products is that at this point in time companies are not required to list those ingredients by name. ...
  20. LOL Yeah it is funny how celiac disease can suddenly make you a better cook! I like cooking for the most part, but there are some things that just plain aren't worth it! I HATE making pie crusts (unfortunatly I LOVE pie). My husband used to gets so wound up anytime I tried to make it. I'd be screaming and slamming cabinet doors, and he'd be hovering...
  21. I'm Scottish/English/French/German. celiac disease came from my mom's side of the family. Surprise, Surprise that is the Scottish/English side!
  22. Shirley, Let me know how it turns out for you! Hey, you mentioned earlier that you make eggrolls. What do you use for the eggroll wrappers? Do you make your own? I have used the rice spring roll wrappers before, but they just don't turn out as good as the real thing. They are way too thin! We have dipped them in batter and then fried them to try and...
  23. Hi Shirley! I cut 12 ounces of boneless pork into bite-size pieces and then marinade them in 4tbs of gluten-free soy sauce, 4 tbs of dry sherry and 2tsp of seasame oil at room temperature for 20 minutes. For the batter I mix together a beaten egg, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 1/2 cup of rice flour, 1/2 cup of chicken broth, and a couple tsp of seasame oil until...
  24. LOL I convinced the local wine shop to carry my gluten-free beer, but they had to send it all back because it was exploding in their fridge!
  25. You might be a Celiac if you can spend 2 hours in a grocery store, on your cell phone, waiting on hold with company 1-800 numbers! You might be a Celiac if you ever felt like giving the people at Kraft a great big hug! Oh yeah...one more! You have to restrain yourself from choking the person who is telling you about how hard it is to stick to their...
