  1. I've been buying a lot of food from the local Vietnamese market recently, because most of their food is naturally gluten free. Last week my husband picked up a different brand of rice noodles than we usually use. Out of curiosity I looked at the ingredients list, and it just said "Flour, Water." I'm assuming the "flour" is actually rice flour, because...
  2. What concerns me is that you've tried so many solutions, either food combinations or medications, in such a short period of time. No wonder your body is so confused! You're probably still suffering from side-effects from past medications too. I took anti-depressants for only two months, but it took over a year to get over the side-effects they caused. I...

  4. I mentioned the same thing to a doctor several years ago, and she also told me it was normal. Current doctor asked me recently about BM issues, and I mentioned that. She wondered why I hadn't mentioned it before...well, because I thought it was normal It went away after a month or so of being gluten free, but unfortunately it came back again after...
  5. If she did have celiacs, why would she be shouting "Eureka! I'm cured!" if she's having the symptoms again after going back to gluten? A gluten-free diet cured her of her ailments, she went back to gluten, and now she's having medical problems again. Duh?
  6. Are eosinophils the kind of white blood cells that can be high because of gluten damage to the intestines? My blood test came back negative for celiac (because I was already gluten free for several months), but my white blood cell count was still really high. I figured it was because the damage was still healing.
  7. I'm dairy-confused right now , and looking for advice. Dairy was the first thing I cut out when looking for a food-related solution to many medical problems, and that did improve my GI issues some. Cutting out gluten was the answer, but diary was bothering me for a while into the gluten-free journey so I stayed dairy free for about a month. After that...
  8. Anxiety can cause what feels like shallow or restricted breathing and a tight feeling in the throat, so it could all be part of the anxiety kicking in. It's especially bad during an anxiety attack. Anxiety is my worst symptom, and disrupts my life more than anything else. After a recent glutening I had to get a prescription for Xanax, which I hadn't taken...
  9. Maybe those people with IBS and CFS who were helped by a gluten free diet should be reassessed for celiacs?
  10. I tried it once, because it came out around the same time I went gluten-free and wasn't yet well educated. It didn't taste that great, was really expensive, and it gave me diarrhea for three days. Big mistake!
  11. I just looked up sciatica, and it sounds exactly like the pain I've been having. Thanks! That's another thing to put on my list of questions for the doctor.
  12. Hair loss is one of the major symptoms of PCOS. Are you getting treating for the PCOS as well as seeking answers for the gluten-related issues? I'm not sure if the two disorders are related or not.

    ARCHIVED Taco Bell?

They probably use different ingredients for different menu items. Some restaurants and chip brands have wheat listed in the ingredients for corn chips and shells. My husband picked up some Aldi-brand tortilla chips last week instead of our usual brand, and they have wheat listed in the ingredients. On the Border chips are not gluten free either. I'd...
  14. Lots of people are describing pain in the abdomen and back area, but for the last week I've been having on-again/off-again shooting pain in my lower back. It's slightly to the left of center, next to the hip. At first I thought it was a pulled muscle, but now it seems more like a pinched nerve. The pain is localized, but it's also making my whole left hip...
  15. This sounds cruel, but I hope you do test positive for celiac. It's just incredible to have answers, after years of beating your head against a wall. I was also at the doctors office constantly, getting no solutions, being sent to random specialists, and being prescribed random medications with no relief. I still don't feel completely well five months later...

    ARCHIVED Follow Up With Doctor

My mom had thyroid problems (hyperthyroid) so they check me for thyroid pretty much every time I have bloodwork done, whether I ask for it or not. It always comes back normal, thankfully!
  17. I had a similar energy burst about 6 weeks ago, and then got glutened and haven't got it back again yet. It felt good to be so energized, but it was also unnerving because I felt too energetic - almost like a mania. Maybe because normal feels so abnormal after all these years!
  18. If the thought of going to the doctor makes you nervous, you could try one of the home test kits first. I haven't tried them, but it sounds like other people on the forums have used them successfully. You could still get a false negative though, and you should probably follow up with a doctor either way. Biocard - Open Original Shared Link Enterolab ...
  19. I found this open access article and wanted to share. Most celiac-related articles concentrate on the physiological aspects, but this one focuses on the social implications. The link goes to a PDF of the article: Open Original Shared Link The Happy Celiac: an oxymoron or a possibility? Maurizio Esposito Background: Several international studies...
  20. I'm at almost five months gluten free, and the weight loss has been sporadic. The first week I lost about 8lbs, which was probably bloat. Then I started eating lots of those gluten-free substitutes and gained some weight back, so I cut them out again. After a few months of healing my voracious appetite went away, and I lost about 15lbs. The I got glutened...

    ARCHIVED Follow Up With Doctor

Thanks a lot! I had blood tests done a few years ago that pointed towards possible iron, magnesium, and B6 deficiency. I'm interested to see how different things are now.
  22. It feels good to just know. It feels even better once those horrible inconveniences start to disappear. Sorry for the TMI, but after a couple of months or so of being gluten free I could go to the bathroom like a normal person again, and I felt like celebrating. You'll be there soon! I still get that tender-skin feeling sometimes, but not nearly as much...
  23. I tried two different antidepressants (first paxil, then celexa) a couple of years ago, and the side effects were worse than the anxiety/depression. I was already having problems with diarrhea, but on these medications it never stopped. There was also awful insomnia, and couldn't sleep more than two hours at a time. On top of that, they did nothing to help...

    ARCHIVED Follow Up With Doctor

After after having blood work done a couple of weeks ago, and coming back negative for celiac (because I've been off gluten for months before the test was done), I'm wondering what else I should explore with my doctor. I have a follow up appointment in two weeks. She has already said that she considers me gluten intolerant because of the evidence of switching...
  25. But what happens if companies start to deliberately hide what is in our food, and the government does nothing about it? They're already doing it with GMOs. It's no secret that the FDA is controlled by corporations, and not the consumers it's supposed to represent. The ONLY reason the USA doesn't have the same stringent standards as the EU is because of corporate...
