  1. Ditto! When enough people tell you it's all in your head, and doctors act like nothing is wrong, it's easy to start believing it. I don't think anything I do will make my parents have an ounce of understanding about celiacs. They have always been unsympathetic people, and let me know from an early age that if I'm sick I'm being an inconvenience to THEM...
  2. A gluten free diet isn't a fad or a weight loss tool - it's a necessary medical treatment. Lots of people think it's just a celebrity diet plan, because that's the only time they hear about it in the media.
  3. It can take a while for everything to settle down, but it sounds like you're eating a great diet, and now you just have to wait for your body to catch up. I lost 8lbs in the first week of eating gluten free. Whoo hoo! And then over the next three months it all came back plus 5lbs. Boo! My body was in a constant state of trying to find a "new normal" because...
  4. They look delicious! I really miss lemon bars, and I'm going to give these a try this weekend. Thanks for posting!
  5. When you're eating gluten do you only feel bad for the few hours after when you're having the extreme pain and nausea, or do you feel pretty lousy all the time? If you had all the tests done while you were gluten free they were pointless unfortunately. You really have two choices right now - either try the elimination diet, and accept that if it works...

    ARCHIVED Dr Has Results

They may have needed to send the celiac test to a different lab, which is why it's taking longer. Your blood results are very similar to what mine were pre-gluten free. I also had low MCV and MCH, high RDW and high white blood cell counts. I don't know if that's typical with celiacs, or if it's just a coincidence. Even though I've been gluten free...
  7. Grilled cheese sandwiches and mac and cheese are still my favorite comfort foods - I just go with the gluten free versions now.

    ARCHIVED Pizza Hut

I found out today that Pizza Hut serves gluten free pizzas in Australia. Sorry if this is old news, but does anyone know if they'll bring them to the US? Has anyone here from Australia tried one?
  9. Yes, Aleve is fine. I double checked because it's the only pain reliever that doesn't make me feel awful.
  10. I didn't have a sudden onset - just a very gradual journey. One symptom after another popped up, and then they gradually got worse. I'm pretty sure the celiac symptoms started in my early 20's, but I also had crazy behavior issues as a very young child which could have been related. Even way back then the doctor suggested a food-related cause, but my stuffy...
  11. Burping can be a side effect of GERD - are you still having other GERD symptoms? Celiac or gluten intolerance could be causing your GERD, but it would take a while to clear up after going gluten free. GERD or GERD-like symptoms can also be caused by some medications. Do you have other gastro symptoms when you eat dairy, like diarrhea?
  12. I have to add another positive review for this flour. I love it! The cheapest way to buy it in bulk (if you do decide you like it) is to get the 25lb bag straight from the BRM website.
  13. My doctor said that eating more protein would cure my headaches. lol. I wonder sometimes if they pick their answers out of a hat.

    ARCHIVED Dr Has Results

Can you ask them to make a photocopy of the blood work results and let you pick them up in reception? Or better yet, could they email them to you? In most states you don't have to wait and get the news from the doctor.
  15. Since this is such a wonderful forum for celiac advice, I'm wondering if anyone here can help me with this problem or point me to a good resource. My husband has been very thirsty and feeling hot all the time for about the last year. This morning he got the results of blood work and he is positive for diabetes with blood sugar through the roof. It was...
  16. I'm curious about the heart condition too. My doctor sent me to a cardiologist on a whim...well she sent me to just about every -ologist there was just to get me out of her office. He found nothing wrong with my heart...however when I was a teenager I was misdiagnosed with a heart condition. Misdiagnosis of heart conditions is quite common, because heart...
  17. How long were you gluten free in the Spring? Some people don't see any results from a gluten free diet for weeks or even months, so you may not have tried the diet for long enough to see a difference. It could be a reaction to another ingredient. Cheeze-its and Dominos crust both have soy ingredients, but mini-wheats and raisin bran don't. Soy is often...
  18. I'm going to assume that you've also been gluten free for only two weeks since your diagnosis. It can take many months to see significant improvement, and for some people it takes years. It takes time for the damage to repair itself, and in the meantime you may start to feel slightly better, and some symptoms will probably clear up faster than others. I've...
  19. I believed what my doctor told me for years; that if I have an upset stomach, or get acid reflux, to stick to simple foods like bread and crackers. And for my motion sickness, I was told to eat some plain bread before traveling. The idea of gluten actually *causing* all these problems just didn't seem logical. Pizza and pasta gave me heartburn - it must...
  20. Were you eating flour tortillas and/or other gluten foods at the Mexican restaurant? My favorite Mexican place was one of the few places where I didn't get a reaction, which later made sense because they only have corn tortillas and don't put gluten in anything. I'm just wondering in case it doesn't fit the gluten pattern. But your symptoms do sound celiac...
  21. Has anyone here been tricked into one of these "double-blind taste tests" where they try to eliminate the placebo effect of eating gluten free? I don't see how a placebo can clear up celiac-type symptoms. "Oh yes, my chronic diarrhea feels much less bothersome now."
  22. What test/s did he order? The celiac test isn't the same thing as an allergy test, so he might have ordered the wrong thing, or just ordered one test instead of the whole panel. My doctor was completely clueless about the celiac tests, and had to look them up. I don't see any reason why he can't run a second blood test in the 9 weeks you're waiting,...
  23. Norman has a PeiWei, which is P.F. Changs little sister restaurant. They have a shorter menu, but it's exactly the same food with a good variety of gluten-free options.
  24. If you get no response from the company, contact the Better Business Bureau. Using a holiday as an excuse to be closed for more than a week sounds fishy. Since the brick & mortar store is in Brooklyn, you might try the BBB in NY.
  25. How much time did you leave between each experiment? Sometimes the reaction can be delayed, so if you ate the mini-wheats and got no immediate reaction, the reaction could have been present a couple of days later, which may have overlapped another gluten trial.
