Definitely get a new doctor. I am self-diagnosed and went gluten free, but followed up with a doctor after a few months. She was very understanding, and recommended the blood test even though we knew it would probably come back negative. She didn't know much about celiac at first but she RESEARCHED for me, and even called a GE to talk about the blood test...

ARCHIVED Well, The Food Court Is Torture....
kittty replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I refused to eat at Chick-fil-a for this reason too, but they announced last week that they've stopped donating money to hate groups. Open Original Shared Link It's a step forward at least! -
ARCHIVED Where Are Your Gluten Related Headaches?
kittty replied to Elisa D's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Mine used to start at the left eye socket, and radiated out. There was a lot of sinus pain in between the eyes too. I also had the CT/MRI and they found nothing wrong. I occasionally had auras (the scintillating scotoma kind), but rarely did the aura come with the pain - they were usually completely separate things. I've only had one migraine since going... -
ARCHIVED Got An Appointment For Tomorrow! What Do I Ask?
kittty replied to sapereaude's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you close to the office? Some places will have an "on call" list in case someone cancels their appointment. -
ARCHIVED Went Gluten-Free - I Feel So Much Better.
kittty replied to TheIntern's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac sufferers are often labeled hypochondriacs because of the variety of symptoms that pop up, and the lack of specificity about why we don't feel well. I heard it from doctors for years, but it hurts when it comes from a loved one There are lots of articles in the Publications and Publicity section of the forum that you might want to pass on to your... -
Is this the same doctor who told you that you can eat European wheat? Did you get an official diagnosis from an MD, or just this test from an acupuncturist? An acupuncturist wouldn't be able to diagnose celiac, so it could be that you're reacting to something entirely different, such as an environmental factor which would have been eliminated during your...

I doubt it's true or it would have been more widely publicized. It could be that people are speculating about why she's so thin, and are listing possible illnesses that can lead to weight loss.

ARCHIVED How To Be Sure?
kittty replied to sapereaude's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The mental health side showed up before the GI symptoms for me. I was dealing with anxiety and depression for many years, getting steadily worse, before the constant diarrhea became a problem. Like you, it started with occasional D after eating, but became more frequent very gradually. I don't know when the fatigue started, but it definitely got worse as... -
I can't stand it when a doctor doesn't listen. The doctor-before-last let me ramble on about my problems, and didn't take in a word of it. Doc "How have you been feeling?" Me "Well, I have diarrhea every single day, my migraines are getting more frequent, and the anxiety is still crippling. I've tried everything I can think of to help the anxiety...

Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin Sinus are both great....BUT in January of this year production of Excedrin was stopped because of a cross-contamination issue at the manufacturer. They won't be sending out new supplies to stores until next month, and will start with the Migraine variety. No news on when the Sinus one will be available again, and I haven't found...

I've had those problems for the last 20 years or so. It started with one sprained ankle, which ended up being a fracture, and continued from there. I've re-fractured that same ankle about half a dozen times since, the ligaments are a mess, and the ankle has now developed arthritis too. After the last break I saw a physical therapist, and other than giving...

ARCHIVED Got Glutened-Need Help
kittty replied to gluten-is-kryptonite's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A co-worker said that chia seeds can help clear up the GI issues after a glutening, but I haven't tried it out yet. -
ARCHIVED Well, The Food Court Is Torture....
kittty replied to MitziG's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Usually there's a larger catering company that overseas university dining. At my university it's Sodexo, and if you talk to the dining management people on campus they can be really helpful to suggest gluten-free choices, and to put more of them on the menu. I refuse to eat at Chick-fil-a because of their ethical standpoint, but they do prepare their... -
ARCHIVED Questions About The Pill, Acne & Casein- Need Some Science!
kittty replied to MitziG's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't know of any science either, but the pill does seem to help some celiac-related symptoms so maybe there is a link to food reactions and the hormones in Yaz. I started taking Yaz because of irregular periods (probably gluten related), and it not only fixed that but also improved my skin and made my hair thicker. I also started getting less nausea. Nausea... -
ARCHIVED Re-Blood Test On 4Months Gluten-Free Diet
kittty replied to KimT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It's possible that you haven't been gluten free long enough for your body to heal. It takes many months for some people to see results. But even with symptoms, you will probably have a negative blood test at four months gluten-free (I did). In my opinion the infections you've had could have been a result of the surgery, and could be unrelated to the celiac... -
Does anyone here have to travel to conferences for work? Next month is the first conference since I went gluten free, and I'm already having nightmares. Food for the conference consists of: Breakfast: breakfast bar in the hotel, with waffles, toast, pastries, fruit Snacks: cookies and danishes Lunch: A choice of pasta with meat, or pasta without meat...

ARCHIVED Nurse Called And Said..
kittty replied to Lifenthefastlane's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Like GottaSki I've also been told that blood work was normal when it really wasn't. My doctor's office recently implemented an online system where I can review all past blood work results at any time. Most of these results I'd never seen before, but there were plenty of results that were out of range and no one had ever told me! Also watch for borderline... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa? Seriously? What's The Deal?
kittty replied to Pegleg84's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It could be CC. How do you buy your quinoa? Do you get it out of those bins by the pound? There could be CC with the bins and the scoops. I tried some quinoa couscous a few months ago, and it caused all kinds of reactions. But I've also had quinoa pasta with no reaction. The couscous didn't have "gluten free" on the package, even though there were no... -
ARCHIVED Can Family Have Different Symptoms?
kittty posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Now that I know what has been causing all of my medical problems, I want to encourage my family to get tested. My grandparents all died quite young, but I'm pretty sure my paternal grandmother had obvious celiac symptoms (edema, chronic diarrhea, arthritis from a very young age, muscle cramps, depression). But no one else in my family has symptoms like mine... -
ARCHIVED Changes Or Improvements You Noticed............
kittty replied to Gemme's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've only been gluten-free for five months, which is still early days, but have seen lots of improvement. After the first week there was noticeably less diarrhea/stomach cramps, and no more migraines!!! The migraines had developed to multiple times per week, and now I haven't had one since that first gluten-free week. I still have the diarrhea, but it... -
But if your doctor isn't proactive in suggesting celiac as a potential diagnosis (which includes every doctor I've ever seen), how can you tell if you have celiac or gluten sensitivity until you cut out the gluten? I'd never even heard of celiac before. I was so desperate for a solution that I was willing to try anything. On the advice of a coworker I...

When I'm in a hurry I use Rustic Crust brand pizza bases, add toppings, and put it in the oven. Open Original Shared Link The crusts are a little crumbly, but if you brush the top with olive oil before adding the toppings it moistens and takes on a better texture.

ARCHIVED Cross Reactive Foods
kittty replied to Emilem's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just curious, but have you tried eliminating dairy yet? Dairy is my worst enemy right now. The lactose can cause GI issues, but the casein in milk products can cause a reaction similar to gluten. -
Thanks for the advice! Glad I'm not the only one who randomly develops lactose intolerance! I had a greek yogurt for lunch, thinking it would be okay. An hour later I was running to the bathroom at work with stomach cramps and D. So it's getting worse. I'm definitely cutting all dairy again starting tomorrow.

ARCHIVED Awaiting Tests But Can't Eat Gluten - Scared Of False Negative
kittty replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I also refuse to go back on gluten to get a positive test result - I'm out of sick time at work! My doctor suggested having the blood tests done anyway, even though I'd been off gluten for several months, and they came back negative. But there are other blood work results that can point to celiac. I've been going over old test results from the last three...
