  1. Have you been glutened recently? I was glutened twice in the last month, and even though most of the symptoms have gone away some still linger. Anxiety is still present, although mild, and I can't sleep more than a few hours at a time. It's gradually getting better though. The brain & neurological related symptoms always last longer than the other...
  2. My doctor said the same thing, but she already admitted that she knew nothing about celiac disease. It's sad isn't it? You'd think they would at least verify the things they say.
  3. It totally depends on your own body and how it reacts. Sometimes I can tell within 20 minutes, other times not until many hours later. Sometimes the brainfog comes first, and sometimes the bathroom issues are first. I don't know why there's no pattern to it for me, and why other people experience glutening the same way pretty much every time.
  4. I was going to start a new topic, but was going to say practically the same thing as you! Before being DX'd I missed a lot of work, and could tell my boss and co-workers were getting VERY impatient with me. Because I'd seen so many specialists and had so many tests that all came back negative, everyone (including the dumb doctors) thought I was making it...
  5. It could be celiac, but it could be many other things too. Vitamin B12 deficiency can cause bladder issues, and a lot of the other things you're describing. You mentioned that you're vegetarian, but do you eat any animals products such as eggs or yogurt? Vitamin B12 can only be found in animal products or supplements (or processed foods with those...
  6. This mother is an idiot. And while she's giving her kid a handful of Goldfish crackers, why not let her puff on a cigarette too? A little couldn't hurt her, right?
  7. Did you have more energy? Yes, but it took a few months before it was really noticeable. I'm at about 60-90% of "normal" energy levels depending on the day. Lose weight? Yep! I'm one of the folks who gained a lot of weight with celiac. I started to lose weight consistently around the third month gluten free, and it's still coming off. I've lost over...
  8. You're asking him to make a lot of sacrifices for you, and you have to ask yourself if you really think that's fair. It doesn't sound like he's going out of his way to be inconsiderate, but is just living the way he always has since before your diagnosis. Expecting your husband to go gluten free when you did was asking way too much, and perhaps he still feels...
  9. I think it depends on your doctors, how skilled they are, and who you feel comfortable with. I go to my regular doctor. She referred me to a GI before we knew it was celiac, and he was useless! He referred me on to a cardiologist because he didn't think there was anything he could do for me. I still don't know why he sent me to a cardiologist, and the...
  10. Another reason to get tested for diabetes.
  11. Diazepam does have a dependance warning on the label.
  12. Your doctor said you were healthy, but have you had any tests for diabetes? Foods like pasta and pizza can spike the blood sugar in diabetics into dangerous levels, and in many people (including my husband) it can leave them feeling very irritable until the blood sugar levels out again. Testing blood sugar is quick and easy. You might try testing it before...
  13. Pei Wei and their big sister restaurant P.F. Changs both dip their tofu in regular soy sauce, so it's not gluten free. For a company that goes to such lengths to provide gluten free options, I'm surprised they don't have gluten free tofu by now.
  14. Rice is probably the worst thing a diabetic can eat. As my husband's doctor said "Eating plain white sugar is better for a diabetic than eating white rice." It spikes blood sugar very quickly. Potatoes and corn should be eaten in moderation. Paying attention to the glycemic index of each food is so important, and it doesn't always make a lot of sense...
  15. It's not going to help the horrible symptoms you're going through, but have you written to the restaurant manager or corporate office and explained what happened? They really need to be aware of it. Mistakes happen, but people like that do not need to be working in the restaurant industry.
  16. Whew! The last pharmacy on my list still carries Ocella. They're a local compounding pharmacy, and hopefully they're small enough to let me know ahead of time if they switch to a new generic.
  17. Sorry for the long post! I've been on Yasmin, and later the generic Ocella, for almost ten years. I've never had any problems with the pills, they fix my erratic cycle and PMS symptoms, and I'm happy that they're gluten free. I've tried other pills and none of them work as well for me. Yesterday I went to pick up a refill and the pharmacy had changed...
  18. Could it be another intolerance? I was exactly the same way as a child, and the doctor suggested cutting out all artificial food colorings. It worked! Red and yellow colorings are especially notorious for causing behavioral problems. Several of them have already been banned in the US, but the ones that aren't banned can still be just as harmful.
  19. You might try adding snacks back in to your diet, and eating smaller meals. Some people get a metabolism boost from eating smaller meals more frequently.
  20. That could be your answer. Maybe your body has found a comfortable and healthy point, and doesn't want to lose any more. Is your BMI in a healthy range?
  21. Put the tape measure away. It will drive you neurotic! I used to be the same way with the scales when trying to lose weight. If you're going to measure, don't do it more often than once per month. Our bodies are never stable, and checking from one day to the next is not a good way to measure change. Do your clothes feel looser around the middle? That...
  22. If it was as easy as signing a petition in the street this would be successful...but there are a lot of hoops to jump through to sign this one.
  23. I'm gluten-free, and we recently found out that my husband had diabetes, so I can sympathize with the lack of food options. The first thing we did was go to the library and look for cook books that would work for both of us. We found tons of gluten free/diabetic options in these two books: The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook Real Mexican Food for People with...
  24. Whole foods are best, and like ciamarie I buy a lot of Asian options because they're cheaper (specialty Asian stores are MUCH cheaper than the Asian section of a regular grocery store, if you have that option). I also check out sales on gluten free specialty items, and buy them when they're a good deal. Kroger often has deals. A few weeks ago they had...
  25. If we all had a nickle for every time we heard that...
