  1. My daughter is also suffering from some gross motor delays in development and is clumsy and uncoordinated. I just recently found out that this could be related to her gluten intolerance. (She had other symptoms that I felt were more severe and that's what led me to believe she had a gluten problem). We have noticed some improvements in her gross motor...
  2. One more thing. If you go to Braintalk, check out the Gluten File and the other two files that are at the top of the topic lists. Those are full of info that I found helpful and interesting. It's helpful to read other people's diagnosis stories sometimes. They also have great links to research as well as papers written by experts in the field. Good...
  3. Rachel, I just wanted to add that there is a person who posts on here named George who also has a double copy of DQ-1 and it seems as though he has done a lot of research about it. He would probably be a great resource for you. Maybe if he sees this he'll post! Good luck in your research. I find myself on the computer all the time know. I just...
  4. Rachel, I don't have any links offhand. I did a google search and also got some good info off of the Braintalk website. They seem to know a lot about the genetics. You could even just post a question over there on the celiac forum asking about what you'd like to know and I bet someone could point you in the right direction. It seems as though experts...
  5. I understand your concern. My daughter is also very small and at 34 months old is in the 3% for height and the 10% for weight. She has been gluten-free since August of this year. I agree with the previous poster in that we also buy a lot of products with plenty of fat. I realize that you are more limited since your little guy has aome other food restrictions...
  6. Thanks for the comments everyone. I have noticed a positive change in the baby although he still has some room for improvement! His stools are still a little mushy, but not water and he is only have 1-2 stools per day. He also seems to be eating a little better, but I think it will take some time because he's used to feeling yucky when he eats. We...
  7. Thanks to everyone for your help. It's kind of overwhelming knowing what is and isn't gluten-free! Why can't they just make ALL of their products gluten-free in the US as well as Canada??? Anway, Ella still has a nasty cough and fever. She coughed much of the night, but didn't wake up. She still has a fever today although so far this morning is only...
  8. I totally agree. Those pizza crusts are awesome! I'm so glad little Kassidy is doing well. It's such a relief to finally be able to do something to help your child. I hope she continues to improve!
  9. I have never heard that! I'll keep that in mind. Tamara, Thanks for thinking of Ella. I feel so bad for her. Her fever was 104.5 at 5:00 this evening and we gave her medicine then. By 8:00 her fever was already back up to 103. I hope she sleeps well through the night! thanks again everyone
  10. Thanks for your help!
  11. Hey, my daughter has a pretty high fever (104.5) and her dr. suggested alternating Tylenol and Motrin through the night. I know that the dye-free children's Motrin is safe, but I am not sure about Tylenol. I thought that Infant's Tylenol was ok, but I need to know about Children's. I am probably going to assume that most of the Tylenol products are gluten...
  12. I completely agree with what you said, Tiffany. Unfortunately it seems that drs. (at least the ones we were "fortunate" enough to see) could not wrap their minds around the possiblitly that hunger could be a sign of a gluten intolerance. They basically laughed me out of the office and told me that Ella needed to see a psychiatrist because she had OCD in...
  13. I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. I agree the the doctors are just not handling many of these cases right. I am always interested in people with the symptom of hunger with a gluten intolerance because you don't hear of that all that often and that was one of my little girl's main symptoms. She was absolutely starving all day long. She was bloated...
  14. I just bought some Great Value (Walmart Brand) marshmallows for my daughter last night. The Walmart here actually states "Gluten Free" on their brands of products that are gluten-free. This has been very helpful to me and I am starting to buy more and more there. HTH!
  15. Kelliac, I too would like to know what your genes were. I am learing more and more about this every day and truely believe that my dd has celiac even though her blood test was neg. and her genes came back "gluten sensitive". She has a double copy of DQ-1. She was so affected by the gluten (distended stomach, behavior problems and hair loss due to malnutrition...
  16. MySuicidalTurtle, I didn't know that. I just always thought that if a person was not sensitive to gluten and did not eat it on a regular basis they could eat it occasionally and be ok. In fact, I think there is a woman on this board who is gluten-free without sensitivity and eats gluten when out to eat with no problem. She is just gluten-free at home...
  17. I am kind of going through the same thing right now and I have decided to just remove gluten from my little guy's diet and see if his symptoms inprove. He is only 11 months old and doesn't seem to enjoy eating, spits up/vomits frequently and has watery stools about 4 times per day. His older sister was recently diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity and although...
  18. Good luck with the twins, Ursula. I hope your daughter sticks with it long enough to see a change. We saw improvement in Ella within 4 days, but I know it doesn't always happen that quickly. I hope that they do well. When I read your post about Meghan and her speech it really made me think because Ella also has had difficulty with speech and was VERY...
  19. Thank you all so much for your replies. I am going to wait until I get the report from the OT about Jack's eating problems and possible reflux and then talk to her about it. I am sure that we will go gluten free with him as well, but as it stands now he isn't actually eating much gluten (other than Gerber Fruit Puffs) but is getting it in my breastmilk...
  20. My daughter definitely has behavioral problems when she has gluten. In fact, we were sent to a psychologist and then refered to a psychiatrist for her "behavioral problem" before we discovered her gluten sensitivity. Since she has been off gluten she is so much better. However, she has had a coupld of accidents and her behaviors come right back. She...
  21. You need to look at all the labels for frosting. Definitely NOT all of the Duncan Hines ones are gluten-free. I did notice that most of the Pillsbury ones were though and that's what I use. It will clearly state if it contains gluten (likely wheat). I don't know about food coloring, but I think the sprinkles are ok. I hope that helped some. I'm...
  22. Thanks, Ursula. I guess I will just take all the info I have into his ped. and see what she says. I would love to have him tested, but I'm not sure that will work right now since he's so young. On the other hand, I don't want to wait too long and cause him further damage if this is the problem. I hope your little grandkids are doing well!
  23. You have all given me such great support and information so far as I have tried to figure all of tihs out with Ella. She is doing so wonderfully and I feel as though I can give you all some of the credit for that for helping me to become an informed and empowered parent when it comes to her health. My question today is about my baby, who is 11 months...
  24. Well, so far so good and it seems as though Ella did not have a reaction when she used Nioxin last night. She has been totally fine today and we can usually tell when she's had an exposure. I guess I'm just a little more worried because she is only 2 and still puts her hands in her mouth a lot. She takes baths and then the soap gets into the water all...
  25. I am so sad to read that Nioxin has wheat in it. I know tihs is an old thread, but I was just looking up Nioxin online and came across this. My little girl who is gluten sensitive has suffered terribly with hair loss and we were hoping this would be the answer for her. It's so hard for me to watch her losing so much hair and I really don't know what else...
