  1. Hey it's Shannon. I saw this post and thought it might be you. I found my kids results and I also thought I would mention that if you google "DQ2 and gluten intolerance" or "double DQ2 genes" you can find information about those particular genes. I quick typed in "DQ2 and mouth sores" and got some stuff that might be interesting you. DQ2 is the most...
  2. I am watching too and was going to get on here to see if anyone else saw it and you all beat me to it! I thought for sure he was going to mention celiac or gluten intolerance. She sounds classic! That would have really been nice if he would have mentioned it on there. So many people watch her show and especially when he's on.
  3. My little 3 year old also suffered horribly from hair loss. She was actually almost bald on spots of her head and I couldn't put her hair up in a pony tail because you could see all the bald patches and also because I was afraid more would fall out. She is doing much better now and since being gluten-free for a year her hair looks pretty normal. She...
  4. Thank you all so much. So many recipes call for this and it's just so much easier to open a can when I have two hungry, grumpy kids under my feet. I appreciate the info!
  5. Does this exist? I know there are recipes for making your own, but can I just buy some already made off of the shelf? I thought I heard somewhere that Progresso was safe. Anyone know? Thanks! Shannon
  6. Thank you all for your suggestions. Jack drinks soy milk and he does eat yogurt on occasion as well as sometimes a piece or so of cheese. What kind of milk would you recommend for him? Can too much juice make reflux worse? He does like his juice. He is such a picky milk drinker that I don't know if he would switch to another kind easily. We had...
  7. My son's reflux is getting worse lately and I'm not sure what to do. I know that it flares up even more with gluten, but he has been definitely gluten-free for quite awhile now and his stools are totally normal, but his reflux is awful. He will be 2 in November and he just spits up in his mouth all day long. It is worst after eating, but can go on for...
  8. We should get together! I also live in eastern Iowa. The Quad-Cities to be exact! Shannon Also, isn't just the plain vanilla, chocolate, etc. of the Walmart Great Value brand gluten free?
  9. I have read that plenty of people on here have eaten it without issue, so I would guess that it's ok. I also called General Mills back when I first found this cereal and they told me that they don't hide any ingredients and that the lines are well washed between runs. My kids have been eating it for a long time now and haven't had a problem. HTH Shannon
  10. That's great!! I'm so happy for you and for Luke. I remember feeling really great when we had our first birthday success. My oldest will turn 4 this January and we'll be doing it again. She wants a Hello Kitty cake this year. i'm excited to make one for her. Congrats on your success!
  11. We have been dealing with this at our house as well. I am not really sure what green poop means, but my son had it yesterday and it was actually quite runny too. It was seriously the color of really green grass. Maybe he ate some??
  12. What a cute idea. That actually sounds really good. I'm sure they would love it!
  13. These are all such great ideas. Thank you all so much! I should be set for a little while! Shannon
  14. These are all great suggestions!!! Thank you all so much. This board is such a great resource! Shannon Oh, one more tihng. This is a class of 3-year-olds and I wanted your opinions about popcorn. I give it to my kids without a problem and they are 3.5 and almost 2. I know it can be a choking hazard, however, and wondered if you all think...
  15. I am looking for lots of good ideas of gluten-free snacks that Ella can bring to school when it's her turn to share. We decided to be in on the snack rotation, but when it's her day I want the snack to be totally gluten-free (like string cheese and raisins for example). I am looking for mainstream things so I don't have to buy expensive gluten-free stuff...
  16. I just wanted to share a little something. Today was dd's first day of pre-school and she was no longer the smallest child in her class!! She is pretty much right in the middle. It used to always be that she was the shortest/tiniest kid in her classes and it's so good to see how well she's growing. There were plenty of kids smaller than she is and it...
  17. My son tested negative through enterolab. My dd was positive. My husband and I have not been tested. Hope that helps!
  18. Thanks for your response. Just out of curiosity, do you have other symptoms of being glutened other than hunger? I know that everyone is different, but sometimes I just don't think she can tell me just how she feels and what's wrong. She doesn't usually get the diarrhea or vomiting, which would be more obvious. Thanks!
  19. My dd also was ALWAYS hungry. That was actually our biggest concern since she was eating such huge portions of food, yet not really growing. Now that she is gluten free, she is growing and is almost caught up to other kids her age. However, she still seems to be a little more obsessed with food than other kids. She is a million times better than she used...
  20. Thanks for all the replies. Actually, in a funny way I am glad that this probably is gluten-related because then we know what we need to do to fix it. If it were just a flare up of some kind I would be more frustrated not knowing what was causing it. We are probably in for more, however, because we visited dd's new preschool today and he took a big bite...
  21. My son has had reflux since he was 6 weeks old. He had, I thought, outgrown it but it seems to have come back recently and I'm wondering if it can come back with gluten exposure? Does this seem possible? When he had his endoscopy the did note some damage from reflux, but he was getting better at that time and had not had a problem until about last week...
  22. Thanks for posting that response. For now, Jack's diarrhea has cleared up and he is doing great. His stools are normal, not grainy and his diaper rash is pretty much healed although you can still see where it was bleeding because it's still kind of red there. I hope all of our little ones stay healthy for a long, long time!! Shannon
  23. Thank you so much! This will be perfect!
  24. I am looking for those letters or explainations of celiac disease to provide dd's preschool teachers. I think they only think about the food and I need them to be extra careful with the art supplies, etc. Also, do you think it's ok this year to have dd play with the regular playdough and just have them wash her hands well? She doesn't eat it...
  25. Nancy, No, my son is no longer breastfed. We stopped right at a year old and he will be 2 in November. My daughter also had this symptom before going gluten free when she was between the ages of 2-3. I hope we find some answers. It sure is weird! Thanks again, Shannon
