  1. Thanks so much for your replies. We are going to just go ahead and give it to him and keep a close eye on him. The side effect that I've heard about for kids are Parkinson's like tremors/seizures as well as diarrhea, insomnia and irritability. I got on a forum for parents of kids with reflux and found that quite a few of them had had bad experiences with...
  2. I am actually VERY interested in any further information you can provide. My husband was willing to have the blood test done after seeing his fathers results. However, now that this ped. GI basically laughed us off about it he no longer feels the need to get tested. My father-in-law had the whole celiac panel run and his antigliadin IgA was elevated. ...
  3. This is probably just another example of why I shouldn't research things so much on the internet, but I have been looking up the side effects of reglan and I am worried. I am supposed to start giving it to my 2 year old son on Monday for his reflux. Has anyone had experience with this drug? TIA!
  4. It is my understanding that antigliadin IgG is much less specific for celiac than the antigliadin IgA. I think the only reason they test for the IgG is in case you are IgA deficient. If you aren't, then it really doesn't mean much. IgG can be raised by other various conditions (including crohn's) but if yours was only slightly elevated I woudn't be concerned...
  5. I just wish that he would publish his methods. He is currently losing a lot of credibility because year after year he says he's publishing and he doesn't do it. That is one of the main reasons I am skeptical of him. Also I have a friend who's son's tTG was NEG. through enterolab and he later tested POSITIVE through bloodwork after being gluten-free for...
  6. I'm not really sure about some of your symptoms but some of them do sound as though they could be caused by a thyroid problem. Have you ever had your thyroid tested? If you have been completely gluten free for 4 months now I would say that you should have at least seen some improvement. I am not saying that you couldn't be gluten intolerant because you...
  7. Thanks. It's interesting. My son has pretty severe silent reflux and has had an endoscopy and they didn't see anything wrong (other than damage from reflux). That was a year ago and his reflux is much worse now than it was then. He spits up into his mouth, swishes it around and swallows it back down. He does this constantly all day long. It is worst...
  8. Are hiatal hernias related to celiac disease in any way. As in, do people with a gluten intolerance get them more often than others or is it totally unrelated? I can't really see how it would be connected, but celiac disease seems to relate to a lot of other conditions so I thought that I would ask. Someone in my family has one and I think my son may have...
  9. I'm not sure what to make of your tests. I am actually wondering the same thing about an elevated gliadin IgA.... From all of the reading on this I have done, however, it seems as though the IgA and the IgG are the first things to normalize when a person goes on the gluten free diet. It seems as though your IgA should not be elevated if you're gluten...
  10. Thank you all so much for responding and for your advice/knowledge about this. His Total IgA was high, but I was actually wondering about his anti-gliadin IgA which was also quite elevated. Chrissy, do you know off had which other conditions could cause an elevated IgA? I have been looking all day and can only find things that cause an elevated IgG...
  11. Ok, this is the last time I will bother all of you with a question. Is there anyone out there who knows if an elevated IgA means anything if the rest of the panel is negative? I am going to ask a ped. GI next week when we go for my son but kind of hoped that of the 58 people who have viewed this thread maybe one could answer.
  12. I wish you luck in finding a dr. who will treat you based on the new guidelines. My little 4 year old has suffered for years and has a TSH of 3.62 and a Free T4 of 0.6 and they all want to "wait and see what happens in a few months." Keep us posted if you find a good doctor!!
  13. ANYONE?
  14. Ok, I just found this information on the American Celiac Disease Alliance website (Open Original Shared Link) The antigliadin antibodies IgG and IgA recognize a small piece of the gluten protein called gliadin. These antibodies became available during the late 1970
  15. Here are some test results of a family member. What do you think? IgA, quant, Serum 468 reference 70-400 Gliadin IgG 5.7 <=25 Gliadin IgA 66.7 <=25 Tiss. Transglutaminase, IgA 2.5 <7 negative So the ones in bold were marked as high. I realize that the neg. ttg indicates no celiac. Does the IgA mean anything? I remember hearing...
  16. I absolutely agree with this. I also agree with the previous poster who said don't waste your money on Enterolab. They won't tell you anything the diet can't for much cheaper. Enterolab can supposedly diagnose a reaction to gluten but they can't diagnose celiac disease. I seriously doubt their ability to even diagnose an intolerance. My son tested negative...
  17. Good for you!! I'm so happy to hear that you're taking him in for tests. You are doing the right thing and I don't think you'll regret it. No matter the outcome, you will have done it and a year from now you won't have to look back and wonder what the results would have been. gfp: I'm glad to hear there are a few of us who think along the same lines...
  18. I would seriously consider getting a copy of your bloodwork to make sure that they ran the right tests and gave you the correct information about your results. Then if they are negative I would try a gluten free diet and see if it helps. You could very well be gluten intolerant without having celiac disease. Enterolab isn't going to tell you anything that...
  19. I'm probably going to have a very unpopular opinion on this board, but my advice to you is get the child blood tested. If they are negative you can always do whatever you like with his diet. As far as my children are concerned, I want to try every avenue to obtain a celiac diagnosis if possible because this is a very serious life-long disease and I feel...
  20. I would keep her on a regular gluten containing diet until her results come in if you want a biopsy confirmed diagnosis. It's completely up to you but a biopsy will not be accurate if you take her off gluten. Good luck and I hope she gets better!
  21. Hey thanks for the responses! We actually don't have her on any meds at this point. No dr. we have seen seems to think she needs them. Over the past year her numbers got worse on their own and she was never on any meds at all. Does she need them? Her current dr. thinks that her thyroid will correct itself if she stays on this vitamin regimine. I have...
  22. I see that this is an old thread so maybe I should have just started a new one, but I have a question for all of you. My dd's thyroid numbers have also gotten worse on the gluten free diet. We are yet to find a dr. who will treat her however... Before the gluten free diet (In Aug 2005) here were her labs: TSH 2.75 ...
  23. Please don't think for a second that I think gluten intolerance isn't something to be taken seriously. I just wanted you to understand the difference between a "celiac diagnosis" that the general medical community will accept and a diagnosis of gluten intolerance through Enterolab. I didn't say that enterolab couldn't diagnose an intolerance. I just said...
  24. Hello and welcome! Enterolab cannot diagnose celiac disease. They diagnose a gluten intolerance. The only way to diagnose "celiac disease" is through positive bloodwork and biopsy. The genes help to identify those people who may be predisposed to developing celiac, but having them doesn't mean a person has the disease. Were there ever any blood tests...
