  1. My son was on a gluten containing diet when we tested him through enterolab and ALL of his levels were withing normal ranges. He has obvious reactions to gluten, however, so who knows?
  2. I really don't have any insight for you, but I want you to know that you're not alone!! My little 4-year-old has been this way since birth. She has always been excessively hungry (although she is of average weight and only 10% for height). We have had every medical test run under the sun and were even sent to a psychologist for her when she was 2. She...
  3. I believe they can also be caused by low iron, which is common in undiagnosed gluten intolerance or celiac disease. My daughter had them very badly before we put her on the diet. She was always anemic. She now looks just fine and as of last month her iron levels are completely normal. HTH!
  4. Thanks for responding. I'm so used to talking about/thinking about poop now that nothing bothers me anymore! I really don't think my son's stools are anything to worry about, but I guess we'll see. He has these types of stool while gluten free. He has straight diarrhea on gluten. We are tryng to figure out what exactly is wrong with him. He also has...
  5. I have been trying to figure out what constitutes this type of stool. My son's stools are often shiny, somewhat oily looking but I always thought that was normal. I read somewhere that it's oily if it leaves a stain on the diaper, but wouldn't all stool leave a stain on the diaper? Thanks for any info you can provide about this lovely topic! ...
  6. My daughter's hair has also gotten semi-curly in the back. It's strange. She NEVER had curl before. Our problem now is that although her hair has stopped falling out (she was balding on several spots on top of her head) it doesn't grow. She is now 4 years old and her hair is the same length that it was at 2. She has had one VERY minor trim since we started...
  7. I'm sorry that your son has been so sick. Can you drive to the drs. office and request the records? I have done that in the past with no problem at all. I totally understand that with a child that young you would want to jump right into doing the diet. Just know that once he's on the diet he cannot have the biopsy done. With a positive TTG you don't...
  8. How important is a diagnosis to you? If you will spend the rest of your life wondering, I would urge you to do the challenge if your body can tolerate it without too many ill effects. I am right now trying to decide if we should do a challenge with my son and I know first hand how hard a decision it is and it shouldn't be taken lightly. I also wanted...
  9. Since you already have your ped. on your side I would NOT waste money on Enterolab. You have positive dietary response and since you already tried the blood tests that's all you can do. I tested both of my kids through Enterolab and wish that I wouldn't have. My daughter's came back positive and my son's came back negative. They BOTH have issues with...
  10. What if a child's TTG is only slightly elevated? I get confused when I see some of you with TTG's in the 100's or 200's. What if the cutoff is 10 and the child has an 11? Then what would a 9 indicate...nothing?? This is all very interesting to me as I struggle to find answers for my own children and watch other people I care about struggle to find...
  11. My children both act as though they are starving when they eat gluten. Is she always really hungry or do you think she is just trying to sneak what she can't have? Are you sure to have goodies on hand that she can eat? I would say that if she is getting up in the middle of the night to get snacks something is bothering her. A 7-year-old should be sleeping...
  12. I absolutely see what you are saying and I agree that you are doing the right thing. If it is possible, getting an accurate diagnosis is best for the child. Of course this is just my personal opinion and I will likely get slammed for it, but I believe that when possible the child deserves to know 100% if they have a life-long disease. We all know that...
  13. Thanks to everyone for your help. We are going to just continue on with the gluten challenge and try to figure out how to help his reflux as well. I really think our main problem right now is the fact that he refluxes into his mouth and swallows it back down multiple times per hour all day long. We know that is had caused damage a year ago when he had...
  14. Thanks for responding. We did test him through enterolab and his results were negative. I was also going to ask about his other labs. He had a metabolic panel run and well as a CBC. He had 8 different things come back as either low or high on those screenings. I was never informed of that so I'm assuming that means it's not a problem? I am wondering...
  15. I just picked up blood test results from my son, which were taken a year ago when he was 12 months old. He had terrible diarrhea then and we put him on a gluten-free diet although his tests were neg with good results. We are now challenging the gluten-free diet and he is back to having diarrhea. I decided to get a copy of his tests and here are the results...
  16. Thank you both for your help. We have been giving him gluten for the past week, but I don't think we've been giving him enough. He's only had one regular waffle per day. His dr. wanted him to start his little mother's day out program on a normal diet and see what happens. Also, he is going to be getting an endoscopy for his awful reflux problem so I thought...
  17. What have your drs. told you? How long would a child have to be back eating gluten in order to hopefully get an accurate diagnosis one way or the other? Does it make a difference depending on how long the child was gluten-free. The child has been gluten-free for a year now. Thanks for any insight!
  18. It is made with corn and rice. I fed it to my kids and so far so good... I've looked at the ingredient list at least 10 times and it looks good to me. Hope you can all find it!
  19. I just found this cereal for the first time today and I think it's gluten-free. It is made by General Mills and I know that they will clearly list and gluten containing ingredients on the label and none are listed. I just wanted to share in case it hasn't been mentioned on here yet. Hopefully you can all find it if you haven't already.
  20. thanks for all your help. I have got to get off of the computer and to bed now!! I think I'm going to dream about google since that's all I've done today.
  21. Can any of you think of anything else that would have caused those symptoms in my dd? Does a person's hair fall out for no reason ever? I have never in my life seen a 2.5 year old with hair falling out like that, but I thought I'd ask. Also, other people seem to think that the other things that are going on with her are "just her." Such as her cold hands...
  22. I saw the other thread about thyroid and thought that maybe someone with experience with pediatric thyroid problems could further help me. A little history is that my then 18 month old dd was always hungry, short for her age, frail brittle hair, lost a LOT of hair (as you can see in my avatar), moody, cried all the time, VERY lethargic, and I'm sure there...
  23. I really can't believe that my dd was brushed off by medical professionals the way she was. We saw so many drs. and no one knew what was wrong with her. They tested her TSH and her celiac panel and then sent us on to a psychologist and psychiatrist. Like they could do anything to fix the fact that her hair was falling out and she was unable to grow. She...
  24. I'm so glad I found this thread!! I have been thinking about my dd's thyroid test results and want to know what you all tihnk. She was tested at age 2 when we were trying to figure out what was wrong with her. Her TSH was 2.75 and that is all that was run. We thought she may have a thyroid problem because her hair was falling out as you can see in my avatar...
  25. My friend's son has been dealing with issues likely related to a gluten intolerance for many years. He had some incompetent doctors initially who ran the wrong tests and told him he did not have celiac. She put him on a gluten-free diet anyway and he got much better, but is still not 100%. He is still dealing with almost daily stomach pains and occasional...
