  1. i just thought I would jump in here. My husband and I spent about 2 years trying to figure out what was wrong with our daughter and after having every test come back negative including celiac blood tests (although the didn't do all the tests) we tried enterolab. Her results said that she did indeed have a gluten intolerance although we already suspected...
  2. Thank you both for taking the time to respond. We did not do standard blood testing on Jack because we felt that at his age it probably wouldn't come back positive. We did have the blood testing on our daughter and it came back negative although I'm not sure they ran all of the tests. She was about 2.5 years old at that time. We then decided to just try...
  3. I just thought I would share the results we got back for Jack. I am still frustrated as to why he has such severe diarrhea. He has been gluten free for a week or so as we were waiting for these test results, but it hasn't made a difference. I guess I don't know what to do now. He also has two totally different genes than Ella has. She had a double DQ...
  4. I'm so happy for your little guy! That's wonderful news. Drs. are so quick to drug people and I really feel that it is most time unwarrented. I wish your little boy the best of luck with his new diet. We have seen amazing results with it ourselves. Take care! Shannon
  5. thank you Bridget and Tamara. It's so nice that you post those lists, Bridget and I'm sure they help so many people! Tamara, I hope you figure things out with Ben. I know you have said in the past that Emmie has terrible reactions. It's so sad when they get this sick over gluten! She had such a small amount too... I think she is finally...
  6. also, thanks to the person who posted the response from Nestle. I didn't see crunch bars on there so I assume that they do have gluten in them.
  7. Wow, thanks for all the responses. I guess this must be what it is. She was still complaining of her tummy hurting this morning and then had a huge, loose, undigested food stool. I feel so bad for her. She seems to feel better right after she goes and then she'll start to feel bad again. I just feel like we're so careful at home and I didn't even think...
  8. Last wednesday I went to my friend's house to take some pictures of her newborn for her and I brought Ella to play with her other little girl who is Ella's age. The girls were playing and then it got a little quiet in the toy room so I went in there and they were eating a Nestle crunch type candy (little wrapped bars) that I assume have gluten in them since...
  9. thank you all so much for your help! I really don't know what's going on with little Jack! He is doing much better with the soy as far as the diaper rash goes, but he still has really grainy stools. I guess that could be from the soy too. It's such a guessing game, isn't it? It is nice to know that we're not alone and others have experienced this...
  10. I am just wondering if any one else has experienced this. We had this come up with Ella before she went gluten-free and now it's happening with my son. We are going to have him tested soon and decided to keep him on gluten for now. He has suffered from reflux as well as diarrhea in the past as well as refusal to eat. However, as soon as I stopped nursing...
  11. Oh no!! I hope she doesn't get too sick from it! Both of my kids like to eat dog/cat food. what is it with that?? I can't keep the baby away from it! He also barely eats any table food, but goes straight for the dog dish. go figure. I hope your little one feels well!
  12. I also have to disagree with what you said, celiac3270. My daughter has a double copy of DQ-1 and was never proven to have celiac disease since she did not have a biopsy due to her blood tests being negative. We put her on a gluten-free diet about 6 weeks before we did tests through enterolab. Those tests showed a gluten intolerance along with genes...
  13. My daughter also has a double copy of DQ-1 subtype 6. Her's are 0602, 0604. I think that all of your kids will have at least one copy of the DQ-1 gene and depending on what genes their father has, they could have 2. Based on my daughter's results, enterolab told us that they knew for sure that myself and my husband each have at least one copy of DQ-...
  14. My daughter is also almost 3 years old and one of her symptoms was a distended stomach. It has improved a great deal, but it is still a little distended. We had a birthday party for my son tonight and someone commented that her stomach looked a lot better, but I was thinking that it looked a little big! Sometimes I don't really remember exactly how HUGE...
  15. My daughter was much like this as well. We always wondered why she was so uncoordinated and seemed to lose her balance really easily. We often joked that she would never be able to be an athlete! She also had MANY behavioral problems and was such a difficult child before going gluten-free. Now she has been gluten-free for about 4 months and she is running...
  16. thanks for the suggestions everyone. I guess I never even thought about how there would be stuffing inside the turkey! There is always so much to consider. I think I may just bake a chicken breast for her and have that cut up so she thinks she's having the same thing. Maybe next year I can do Thanksgiving here and have it gluten-free after I get a...
  17. I guess my title says it all. I don't know if I can just let Ella eat the turkey that my aunt is preparing. We have a HUGE family that she is providing Thanksgiving for (although we all bring a dish) and I don't want her to do anything special for Ella. I will obviously just bring something that she can have if need be. I honestly don't think Ella will...
  18. Tamara, Does she eat soy cheese and yogurt at all, or does she not care? I find myself feeding Ella so much dairy now since she can't have many of the other snacks she used to eat. I often wonder if she would be even better caesin free. Now that I say that about the soy stuff, I think it actually does contain caesin, so I guess she couldn't have that...
  19. I saw on your signature that you ordered a genetics kit from enterolab. My daughter has a double copy of the DQ-1 gene, which is not usually a celiac gene although a small percentage of people have celiac with DQ-1. She never had a biopsy since her bloodwork was neg, but I really do believe that something would have shown up on biopsy due to her somewhat...
  20. I could have written your post. I had the exact same problem with my daughter and we saw MANY specialists trying to figure out what was wrong with her. She would want to eat constantly (huge adult sized portions and even more than I could eat) and would scream when she had to get out of her highchair. She would be asking for food 1/2 hour later. She could...
  21. My son also has reflux. He had been on prevacid. They said he would outgrow the reflux, but he has not and he'll be a year old in a couple of weeks. We are currently trying to keep him gluten-free to see if it helps and I have noticed an improvemen although it isn't gone. He really doesn't eat any solid foods at all, just breastmilk, so basically I'm...
  22. Tamara, I was so happy to read your post. I am so glad that little Emmie is doing so well. That has to make you feel so good!! For the others who's kids are not gaining. My dd is also not gaining really fast if at all. She will be 3 in 2 months and is only about 26.5-27lbs and 34" tall. She's a peanut, but is SO much healthier and is absolutely...
  23. My dd was also always anemic and I believe that it was directly related to her gluten sensitivity. Nothing was ever done about it and I was told her give her a vitamin and be sure she ate enough iron. This was a child who ate us out of house and home and then some because she was so starving and yet was vitamin deficient and malnourished to the point that...
  24. How exciting! You have to let us know how it turned out for you. I would love to have my DH tested. He has so many celiac symptoms and is still eating gluten. My dd tested pos. through enterolab although she has gluten sensitive genes, not celiac. I am eager to hear if you like this method and what the results were!
  25. I think Rachel pretty much answered that for you! She knows a ton and I am actually just starting to get more educated about all of this. My daughter has only been gluten-free for about 3 months. My daughter was mainly diagnosed through a positive dietary challenge since her blood tests came back negative. I then tested her through enterolab and found...
