  1. Thank you all for your support and encouragement! I have learned more from this forum than from any doctor that I've spoken to or any article I've read. There are so many people here who have a wealth of knowledge about DH.
  2. Thanks squirming and prickly! I just cannot believe the doctors. I actually asked the dermatologist today about the validity of the biopsy since I was gluten-free and didnt have any active DH and he said no the likelihood of a false negative was slim! If I had antibodies they should still be there. He also said the odds of DH being celiac were limited...
  3. So I had a biopsy last month. Very excited because it looked like the beginning of an "active" blister plus the surrounding skin. The results came back inconclusive with the suspicion of it being arthropod in nature. He actually suggested that i check my bed for bedbugs! I scheduled an appointment with the dermatologist who did the pathology report and...
  4. I've been noticing whenever I get glutened that I have atrocious bad breath. Often I have taken Pepto Bismol to help with digestive issues and realized that it helps with bad breath too. Anyone else have a similar experience? BTW I have spoken with my dental hygienist and dentist who agree that the odor is not coming from my mouth but likely from my digestive...
  5. Are you serious? I was breast fed and I have several symptoms as well as DH. Symptoms. Just waiting on a diagnosis to confirm what I already know. And I have a son who displays symptoms that was breast fed as well. BTW I also don't fit the typical caucasian profile.
  6. I take Mobic every day for arthritis in my back and neck. I hadn't noticed that it causes a problem, although this is all still new to me. Are most people sensitive to salicylates with DH? Not sure how I'd do with out the Mobic... In reply to chefy, I noticed the last time I got glutened it took me less than a week to start itching and developing bumps...
  7. These are some of what I think is DH and had been previously diagnosed as shingles.
  8. Does inhaling flour create a reaction to gluten in most celiacs? I walked into a restaurant where they were prepping fried chicken. The lady that waited on me had a cloud of flour that followed her to the counter. Then she proceeded to touch everything with the floured dough stuck to her hands. BTW I was not there to buy anything for myself. My work...
  9. Okay so my diet is not the best but I try to be gluten-free. Breakfast is peanut butter and honey on Brown rice bread or eggs from my chicks (free range) Lunch could be tuna and tomatoes with gluten-free chips or a burger from Carls jr or refried beans and a taco from Taco Bueno Dinner might be a salad or chips and salsa or whatever I can find. If...
  10. Okay, another weird question for the experts in our forum. I have been having problems with very bad breath, and a burning gut that are not relieved by a gluten-free diet. My question is, can this be just another symptom of DH, or gastritis, or what? On a side note, I have realized that this problem comes back after glutening and takes a while to...
  11. Thanks Squirmingitch, I think you hit the nail on the head. I am frustrated by the not "knowing" but KNOWING that I have a disease that affects me negatively when I ingest gluten. It would be easy to just start telling people, "I have celiac disease", but the little angel on my shoulder tells me I am lying without proof of that statement. I'd feel better...
  12. Good video, but I wonder if I will need to get a medical degree to fully understand this disease...
  13. Okay, so according to research and a thread posted by eatmeat4good and started by squirmingitch... I have to eat gluten for a while to get a good diagnosis for DH... What the heck! I am happily cruising along with my gluten-free diet only to find that I need to go off to get a diagnosis... Again, can I say WTH??? As much as...
  14. Worse...Oklahoma !!!
  15. Sorry about that empty posting...my computer has issues...I refuse to admit that any cyber error is mine, but I wanted to reply to Squirmingitch and say... you made me laugh today, so thanks! your light-hearted take on this disease is uplifting! I sat in a business lunch today trying to decide if I wanted to admit my "problem" or eat whatever was presented...
  16. squirming... I want to be you when I grow up...but really... I cannot imagine how much time it has taken to gather this information but I am thankful. I promise to read all of it as soon as I can. I have learned that the only one who can help me is me. Very few doctors have enough understanding of this condition. Every bit of valid research and new information...
  17. Thank you for your replies, but I am still confused. I'd like to think I am an educated person, but this disease has me stumped! Just when I think I have a handle on it there is one more aspect. Ive had stomach issues for what seems like all of my life, but the rash just started about 6-7 years ago and while it is no where near as bad as some of the pictures...
  18. Does DH rash show up more when glutened. That's what it seems like to me, but I've read that outbreaks don't have to be gluten induced... I'm so confused!
  19. So I started looking at gluten intolerance as a possibility for my chronic stomach/digestive issues a little over a year ago and stumbled on DH information along the way. Ive only been part of the gluten-free community for less than a year, but it is very evident when I ingest gluten from my physical symptoms that I am sensitive at least, celiac at most...
  20. Thank you so much! I think, know that I react to gluten...and it seems that this is such a difficult problem to diagnose that I will just continue to live gluten free. If I happen to have an outbreak of DH I will head to the dermatologist immediately and see if he thinks that he can make a diagnosis. If not...I will continue to choose gluten-free. I am...
  21. Okay these are the results... IgA quant ® 124 mg/dL gliadin IgA 1 unit gliadin IgG 2 unit t IgA <2 U/mL t IgG <2 U/mL Endomysial AB neg I dont understand what the Dr was talking about when he said that one of the tests showed "something" that could be an indicator. There were no range indicators... other results ...
  22. I get a terrible reaction to oats. I have not tried any but Quaker though...
  23. Thanks for your suggestions. I hate the fact that there is never an easy definitive answer. I also hate that people seem to accept your "strange diet" more readily with a dx even though I can identify hidden gluten in almost anything with a visible physical reaction. My stomach looks about 6 mths pregnant....not fun! beachbirdie-I was gluten-free...
  24. I recently had bloodwork that came back within normal range although the Dr. said the markers did show something??? I was only back on gluten for approx 3 weeks before testing though. Previous problems...dx nervous stomach in teens with sensitivity to milk, dx with IBS in my twenties, gallbladder disease with removal in 30's, previous CBC's show chronic...
  25. What should I do next? I recently had blood work to check for celiac and the doctor said that the workup was all within "normal range" but there was something that could indicate a problem. Dx with nervous stomach in my teens, IBS in my twenties, constant anemia, leukopenia, chronic skin rash that was dx as shingles with regular outbreaks on face, in nasal...
