ARCHIVED Doubt Its celiac disease But Want Some Reassurance
happygirl replied to sungold17's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Any doctor can order the Celiac blood tests. A GI doctor performs the endoscopy/biopsies. Re: gluten sensitivity - Dr. Fasano is a leading Celiac pediatrician and researcher (www.celiaccenter.org) Open Original Shared Link -

ARCHIVED Doubt Its celiac disease But Want Some Reassurance
happygirl replied to sungold17's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
None of us know if your child has Celiac or a gluten problem, unfortunately. However, the 'compelling reason to do so' may be that the symptoms are resolved by removing gluten. Considering that the symptoms are still there, you may want to consider a gluten free trial and see how your son responds. -
Thanks for the feedback. There was a great write up in the H-burg GIG newsletter, also.

ARCHIVED Genetics Question
happygirl replied to leadmeastray88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
"Within the group of patients with neurological disease and gluten sensitivity (defined by the presence of anti-gliadin antibodies) we have found a similar HLA association to that seen in patients with celiac disease: 70% of patients have the HLA DQ2 (30% in the general population), 9% have the HLA DQ8, and the remainder have HLA DQ1. The finding of an additional... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Panel Results
happygirl replied to imnotdyingnow's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You probably need a follow up appointment to talk with your doctor. It may be necessary to do a biopsy of your small intestine to determine if you have Celiac Disease. If your tTG was highly elevated, it would be easier to say with more certainty that it is probably Celiac. The AGA IgA test is a good test, but not as sensitive/specific. I would... -
ARCHIVED Sanity Check: Validity Of Enterolab
happygirl replied to climbmtwhitney's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Shay, a clarification: For those who have been around this board for awhile (and there are MANY members who have been here longer than I have) - they will attest to the fact that many do feel that Enterolab is all that is needed. There are members that do not advocate the blood testing/biopsy and their advice is to do Enterolab testing. The posts are... -

ARCHIVED I Am So Hungry Were You?
happygirl replied to cat3883's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Apparently, you aren't the only one: Q: I feel hungry all the time. Is that normal? Yes, it is very common. Your body is making up for the time it wasn't fully absorbing foods. Hunger levels tend to normalize within the first months after eliminating gluten and beginning a well balanced diet of gluten-free foods. From: Open Original Shared Link -

here's the text: Open Original Shared Link Celiac Disease vs. Gluten Sensitivity By Tricia Thompson, MS, RD, the gluten free dietitian "When I first started working in this field, the term gluten sensitivity was used interchangeably with the term celiac disease they basically meant the same thing. ARCHIVED Bloodwork Negative, Now What?
happygirl replied to julirama723's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You could always do both. Whatever makes it easiest for you to resolve your symptoms and stick with the diet. If you are gluten free for awhile and your symptoms don't resolve, then you may want to follow up for other diagnostic testing. -

ARCHIVED Question About Iga
happygirl replied to jat237's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I merged your two threads together since they are related. See my above answer about IgA. Its not a Celiac test. Its a measure to make sure the other tests don't give you false negatives on the Celiac tests. You are apparently not IgA deficient as you were able to test positive on the tTG IgA (a Celiac test for antibodies) test. "Of note, selective... -

ARCHIVED Question About Iga
happygirl replied to jat237's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The IgA test isn't a test for Celiac, its a test to see if you produce IgA antibodies. IgA antibodies make up a good chunk of Celiac testing (tTG IgA, EMA IgA, AGA IgA, etc). tTG is one of the best (although not perfect) tests for Celiac. The tTG IgA and total IgA are often used as a screening test for Celiac. It appears that your tTG test is very... -
ARCHIVED Quick Question! - Hoping To Get An Answer Tonight
happygirl replied to Shotzy1313's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, its not safe. Oats are not safe unless they are 'specialty' brand oats that are stated to be grown and processed in a way that keeps them gluten free. Even with that being said, a small minority of Celiacs can't tolerate even safe oats. Open Original Shared Link -

I remembered it, and googled it. Was actually quite surprised to find it. For some reason, I ADORED that clip on SS when I was younger. We used to sing the song all the time. I've always loved llamas (I have no idea why). Just do. (I swear I am not the llama lady) -
