  1. The only problem is that this is during the week...........and hypothetically, I am supposed to show up at work on those days!
  2. Which celiac blood tests did you have run?
  3. Or, Laura But, I hope our very own MG can come too!!!!!
  4. Random thoughts: Hmmmm....I'm not *that* far away from Philly...... Patti, do you have room for me? vote for Coke We have two maine coon kitties (at least partial MC) and I love them so much.
  5. Keep in mind that a biopsy/endoscopy doesn't only look for Celiac, but for other disorders as well. You could have Celiac (only), Celiac and something else, or no Celiac and something else. (Or, of course, the endo/biopsy can show no problems, which doesn't mean you aren't having symptoms)
  6. Thanks for sharing this perspective, Deb. I had the pleasure of hearing some of the former leadership of Alba speak a few years ago and I was so inspired by their research and dedication to learning more about Celiac.
  7. Welcome to the board! Here are some of my favorite resources on the web. There is a LOT of info in these pages. Hopefully they will give you a good start.... 8. A lot of people have low iron problems and they aren't related to Celiac. Yours may have nothing to do with your dx of Celiac. People's iron stores can ebb and flow, for various reasons.
  9. You need to be eating a regular gluten filled (not gluten lite) diet for the tests to be as accurate as possible. Open Original Shared Link Print out the above information on the link from Columbia and take it to your doctor for testing. There are five tests involved in the full Celiac panel.
  10. Here is some information you can bring to your doctor. Both are from reputable Celiac centers. 11. BEV!!!!!!!! This is not ok!!!!!! Make sure you take a picture to document the bulls eye rash (yes, weird given the location!) Happy you are seeing your doc tomorrow! Keep us updated, ok?
  12. Personally, I don't see it as any different than some people post (when looking for a restaurant in an unfamiliar city) in the restaurants forum, and some people post the same type of question in the 'travel' forum. Or people ask about how to broach the topic of getting family members tested ... some post in coping, some in pre-diagnosis, some in post-diagnosis...
  13. I believe that there are already multiple places on where these topics (regardless of the 'condition') can be discussed.
  14. With that proclamation Peter, I feel very honoUred. I don't feel very silly lately----a new med, and I'm wiped out. Congratulations, Alex!!!!!
  15. No, they won't necessarily say gluten free. The USA is still in the early stages of trying to figure out what "determines" gluten free. You can have two items that are both gluten free, but one may be listed and one isn't. Something can be wheat free, but not gluten free (because it still may have rye, barley, barley malt, or oats)
  16. although I don't know if I can claim full residency here, just for the record, I am: -right handed -and my hair can be all. Curly, wavy, and straight. Susie, stupid barley malt flour. hope you are feeling better!
  17. As of this morning, the story was the most emailed on wvec.com. Apparently there is a great need for allergy and gluten free shopping in the area.
  18. I'm sure this has been posted at some point before, but it is worth sharing again. Open Original Shared Link from the website: The Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group (WCSSG) has initiated a unique Gluten-Free Traveling Bears for celiac children program to: increase awareness of celiac disease, help children with celiac disease understand and communicate...
  19. Lizard, Make sure that you tell the owners that Laura said hi
  20. about 30% of the population has the gene(s), but only 1 in 133 has Celiac. the risk of having Celiac increases when you have a person in your family diagnosed with Celiac. However, it doesn't mean he will get it. And, if he "will" get it, you don't know if he'll get it as a kid, as a teen, a young adult.....or be 80 years old. He might not have it now...
  21. A new store in Virginia Beach (Hampton Roads) area recently opened. They carry many gluten free and other allergy free foods. The owners are parents of a darling son who had life-threatening allergies. They are VERY well-versed in gluten free and other food allergies, ingredients, preparation, and cross contamination. The link to the store: Open Original...
