ARCHIVED Various Questions......
happygirl replied to Swartzmj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A short piece of advice: Get copies of your medical records, including bloodwork for Celiac and biopsy reports. Call a local Celiac support group and ask for an experienced GI that their members use (that is educated about Celiac). Take your records and get to a doctor that will be able to provide the follow-up care and support that you need. And... -

ARCHIVED Help With Test Results Please!
happygirl replied to Darcie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You may want to ask your doctor if your IgA total (42) is considered IgA deficient. If you are IgA deficient, the AGA IgA, EMA IgA, and tTG IgA tests won't be as accurate for you. Keep eating gluten until your appointment and all testing is completed. Ask your doctor about the new pill cam for diagnosing Celiac. It appears to be more accurate than... -

happygirl replied to ShayBraMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
By FDA law, wheat, if used in natural flavors, must be disclosed and clearly listed. That leaves rye, barley, or oats. I'm not sure if thoe would be ingredients that are used in a popsicle. Personally, I would eat it. -

ARCHIVED Which Relatives To Test?
happygirl replied to ChemistMama's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
From: Open Original Shared Link Q: Why do my family members need to be screened for celiac disease? When the diagnosis is established in one family member, their first- degree relatives (parents, siblings and children) should have blood tests for celiac disease. This is because at least 10% of family members will have the disease, even if they are asymptomatic... -

ARCHIVED Basic Question Regarding Evidence Of Benefit Of Gluten-free Diet
happygirl replied to benjamin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board, Ben. Not as much is known about "silent Celiac" as compared to "symptomatic Celiac"---considering its often a struggle to get a very symptomatic Celiac diagnosed, even less is known about those without symptoms. 97% of those with Celiac don't know they have it. There is a lot known, but even more is unknown. Dr. Green says that... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac? I Am Confused
happygirl replied to TruckerBird's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Do you know which blood tests were run, and which ones were positive? Some of the tests are more specific for Celiac than others. Were you eating gluten at the time of the testing? Do you know how many biopsy samples were obtained during the endoscopy? If too few samples were taken, it can lead to a false negative, as Celiac is a "patchy" disease... -

ARCHIVED Tested Positive For Ttg Iga
happygirl replied to Dolcenotte's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Michelle, Welcome to the board! Make sure that you keep eating gluten until you complete your endoscopy/biopsy. Ask your doctor to take 4-6 biopsy samples, since the damage in the intestines from Celiac is 'patchy.' You may also want the other Celiac bloodwork run---discuss it with your doctor.
