  2. Just looking at the intestine does not diagnose Celiac. The biopsies do. So yes, you can "not" see it and the biopsies are positive. You'll need to make sure that your doctor took 4-6 biopsy samples. Celiac is a patchy disease, and damage isn't uniform. Have you had the bloodwork run for Celiac? You may still have a problem with gluten, so at some...

  4. Smirnoff Ice, in the USA, is a malt beverage and is NOT safe.
  5. The info from the first link was: "When individuals with celiac disease ingest gluten, the villi, tiny hair-like projections in the small intestine that absorb nutrients from food, are damaged. This is due to an immunological reaction to gluten. Damaged villi do not effectively absorb basic nutrients -- proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals...

  7. If its passed down the row, would it be easier/safer to just have a place in the church for gluten free bread? Before the service, those who need it can go and get it. When communion occurs, then you just keep passing the bread plate. Also, people make take the gluten free bread and not leave enough for you. If any of this concerns you, I would...
  8. Modified food starch is safe unless is says Modified food starch (wheat). There is a lot of outdated information out there. A lot has changed in terms of food labeling laws, etc. Here is a company that will clearly list any gluten...so you don't have to worry if its not listed, its not in there: Open Original Shared Link
  9. Keep in mind that 30-40% of the American population has one or both of the Celiac genes. 1 in 133 Americans actually has the disease.
  10. Meline, "Celiac disease is an autoimmune digestive disease that damages the villi of the small intestine and interferes with absorption of nutrients from food" Your body is still damaged from gluten. "When people with celiac disease eat foods containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging the fingerlike villi of the small intestine...
  11. Hi Lisa, It is genetic in the sense that it is linked to two genes (and they are researching more), but just having the gene doesn't mean anyone has it. So while yes, you got the gene somewhere, it doesn't mean *necessarily* that anyone else has it. You already know the stats: https://www.celiac.com/articles/647/1/Preva...-133/Page1.html "Group Prevalence...
  12. Since you have only been gluten free for a short period of time, chances are, your body hasn't healed yet. If the cheese was safe.... You may be: 1. temporarily lactose intolerant 2. "reacting" to safe foods, because your villi haven't healed and you can't properly digest/absorb. Damage wasn't done overnight, and doesn't go away overnight.
  13. Welcome to the board! Request a copy of your bloowork, so that you can see what tests were run, what your results were, and what the reference ranges are. If you don't want/need an official diagnosis, go by the dietary response. There are pros and cons to both. You can always go gluten free after you have the testing done, regardless of the results. Its...
