Hey Meg, I am always mixing things up, but I can tell you thhat eating Paleo does result in weight loss and less bloating....even after 5 days. However, I only eat that way for 4-5 days at a time because of my workout schedule. I find I am drained and have no energy. I just got the book Paleo for Athletes and am looking forward to reading it. At the...

Hi Josh, As far as I know, it is gluten-free. I have taken Nitric oxide before with no problems (and I am extremely sensitive to gluten). However, I didn't really look into whether the company produces other gluten containing ingredients (possibility of cross-contamination). Might want to look into that if you are considering making it a regular supplement...

ARCHIVED Are celiac disease People Usually Thinner?
Heather22 replied to kristiney's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Kristine, Good to hear that you will finally be getting some answer. Having Celiac is definitely not the end of the world. Everyone has different experiences. Keep in mind that you do not NEED to eat heavy gluten free items. If you are trying to control your weight, avoid all the gluten free bagels, pasta and muffins and try to eat more naturally... -
ARCHIVED Recovering Anorexic/bulimic And Scared
Heather22 replied to bessiejay's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, like others, I am surpirsed by the number of Celiacs with disordered eating. At the same time, I can see a connection. I think that it is great that everyone can get together and talk about it. Eventhough I don't have any specific ED, I have had glimpses of it in the past (while going to university). I had poor eating habits (like binging when I was... -
Wow, all I did was read the subject and I was excited. Jimf, I really admire your sport. I have not done any triathlons, but have the goal of doing one in the next few years (I also have to save up for the bike I want....but can't afford) : ) As far as nutrition, there are many gluten-free choices. Amongst my favorites are: 1) Elev8me bars (protein...

ARCHIVED Temporary Cessation Of All Sugars, Including Fruit

Have you considered probiotics? I strongly recommend checking them out! I have had a very good experience with them.... Good luck! H : ) -
ARCHIVED First Cleanser-renew For Life
Heather22 replied to meggy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Meggy, I have done First Cleanse before. It is very gentle and did not bother me at all. It is great if you are not an experienced cleanser, as it is very easy to follow and gives you a bit more insight as to what cleansing feels like. The thing about cleansing is that you have to do it at an optimal time. You should not be having "D"......or if you... -
Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking about cutting out gluten-free grains, as well as all rice and corn products, and potatoes. I am ok with carrots and probably squash. I have noticed that on starch-free days, I really feel great. I am starting triathlon training, so I suppose it is just a matter of getting in enough calories, and still feeling energetic...

Hi there, I was wondering if there is anyone out there, who only eats fruit and veggies for their carbohydrates (omitting rice, gluten-free grains)? And, if it has effected their energy level, performance, fitness goals, etc. I notice that I feel bogged down and my weight goes up after I eat starchy foods. However, I am nervous about cutting them out...

Hi there, The Body for Life program is very adaptable, so I would give it a go. The program is not scientific, so it shouldn't matter if you make substitutions for your dietary needs. I think the only complication would be with the supplements, which by the way, are not needed to succeed at the program. Most of the supplements are for people who are too...

Hi Mandigirl1 I have had a similar experience to yours, except it was from spoiled food. We were camping in France, and the camper fridge died a few hours prior. Eventhough it was not gluten, I found that the only thing that worked for me is to sleep. I was carried back to the tent and slept it off. As for when I get glutened, I do something called...

Hi PreOptMegs Good for you! That is great to hear things are getting back in working order. That must feel really good. How long after stopping the pill did it take for you to notice a difference? I just went off and I am hoping to feel something different soon. Heather : )

ARCHIVED Did A Perfect Atkins Day Today.
Heather22 replied to CMCM's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow Katrina! I don't think that I have ever heard of someone being allergic to so many essential food groups. How did you determine your allergies (medical test or self diagnosis)? I don't know your history, but I would be inclined to thinking that you are probably not allergic to all those foods, but rather have an imbalance or functional problem that causes... -
ARCHIVED Dairy Free And Gluten Free Protein Bars And Shakes
Heather22 replied to horselover's topic in Sports and Fitness
Elev8Me! bars are gluten-free and really great. There are a bunch of different flavors and the ingredients include only fruit and whey protein powder. They are delicious! You can google them or take a look at www.prosnack.com. -
Before you start cutting calories, I would strongly recommend the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Check out the never ending SCD thread. It can be dangerous to cut calories too low because your body will go into starvation mode and as soon as you return to a comfortable calorie range, your body will hold onto (and store) everything that goes into your mouth....

I just thought that I should post own experience with gluten free weight gain to offer some hope for all of you gluten gainers. When I was diagnosed, I was 125 lbs and a few months later I was up to 160. My eating habits did not change much (portion-wise), but I still gained a ton of weight. I am also very much into weight lifting and running. I should...

ARCHIVED Help! Weight Gain On gluten-free Diet
Heather22 replied to MegGFBoston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi tiredofdoctors Why are you eating that little calories? That is VERY low...for anyone. If you are eating too little, your body goes into starvation mode and will store every single thing you put in your mouth (and your metabolism drastically slows down). I would put $ on that is why you are gaining weight. Nine hundred calories is hardly enough to sustain... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free / Allergen Free Meal Replacement
Heather22 replied to marciab's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I actually believe that wheatgrass is gluten free. Wheatgrass is sprouts of wheat berries or grains. The protein element of the grain (gluten) is converted into amino acids during sprouting, hence wheatgrass is a super food. Sequel (who makes Vega) is also a very reputable company with high standard testing. I trust that Vega products do not contain gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free / Allergen Free Meal Replacement
Heather22 replied to marciab's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would try Vega meal replacement at www.myvega.com. It is gluten and allergen free. My favorite flavor is original. You can also get bars. Yum! You can also find it at any organic market or health food store. -
Wow Ursula, I'm sorry to hear about your mother. However, your postulation is very likely. I completely know what you mean about the blaming-Celiac thing. When I don't feel great, I look like a chubby girl, despite being a fitness athlete and eating a clean, healthy diet. To everyone else, it looks like I eat too much and can't control my junk food cravings...

Hi Krackers, Yes, that is a common issue with Celiac. You should check out the other threads on this forum, as people discuss this in depth. There's: "Gluten and weight gain.." "Celiac and gaining weight..." Best wishes, Heather : )

Hi Mike, As far as the recovery, I would recommend eating immediately after your work outs. The faster the muscles get replenished, the quicker the recovery (I sometimes bring a few dates with me to the gym). Have you read the book by Brenden Brazier called "Thrive"? I met him a few weeks ago....such an amazing athlete. I have also tried Vega. The...

ARCHIVED Weight Gain As A Symptom -before Starting Gf Diet
Heather22 replied to aberglund's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Tiffany, Yes, it is about exercise, but I think our Celiac bodies are also sensitive to other foods. For example, many Celiacs are carb and sugar sensitive. I would not recommend the Atkins diet, but eating a diet that is lower in both of these might help. I would start by choosing one carb, such as brown rice, and going from there. It also might... -
Hi bknutson What you are going through is NORMAL. I have felt like you do many times. Giving up was never really a plausible option, but I think we all know the feelings of helplessness and frustration. What frustrates me the most is that I just don't know! Doctors are not much help. They say stick to the gluten-free diet, and you will feel better....

Hi, I know what you means about having the "too sweet" syndrome. When I dieted for a bodybuilding show, I thought the oddest foods were "too sweet". When I returned to my normal diet, it was hard to determine what it was that bothered me, as I jumped right back into eating gluten-free flours, fruit, nuts and sugar. It is onl;y now that I am realizing...
