  1. (((HUGS))) You've been through a lot but I'm glad you've figured it out... things can only improve for you from here on out. Hang in there.
  2. LOL That's brilliant. I don't think I would have caught that!
  3. My kids tested negative for celiac but I suspect my oldest and possibly my youngest have issues with gluten. They are all gluten-free now just in case. My kids are all very different eaters. Ds#1 would live on raw fruits and veggies with some meats; he has a tree nut allergy so that limits us some. Ds#2 is very picky. He eats beige food and actually...
  4. My kids all tested negative but my oldest son has some sort of food sensitivity so he is now gluten-free and almost milk free. He has less stomach aches and has gained about 2lbs in these couple of weeks that he has been gluten-free. I'm not sure if it coincidence, but he's staying gluten-free so won't be tested again any time soon. His brothers are...
  5. I try to avoid cc when ever possible. It doesn't take much for damage to be done even if there are no symptoms. I would rather buy another brand which is not made in a facility with wheat (etc) than risk it. As I see it, why take the risk (for the pleasure of the taste of a food) when I don't have to. I want my family to have the full benefit of the diet...
  6. (((Hugs))) My first 2 weeks eating gluten-free were very difficult. I went through a withdrawl of sorts and felt quite unwell and incredibly cranky. That could have contributed to your recent down hill slide. Are your blood levels and vitamins ok? Were they tested when you were diagnosed? Many celiacs have a very hard time getting enough B12...
  7. what changed for you after you went gluten free? No more stomach aches after eating. No bloat or pain with that. Migraines went from 2 weeks or so a month to a day or two. Less hungry. Hypoglycemic symptoms are less. Hair regrowth. Plantar fascitis (sp) is much less. No leg cramps (not sure if that's related since it was due to an injury). Did you...
  8. Sorry you are feeling poorly. It sounds like you had a double hit from both the soy sauce and the blue cheese...ouch. Non-celiac gluten intolerant people can be hit with reactions just as bad as what celiacs get, and with the low false negative rate there is a chance that you could be a celiac... just an impossible to diagnose one. I personally...
  9. Your poor daughter. So you are not pursuing any more celiac testing? If that is the case, I suggest you go on the gluten-free diet together for a few months to see if it helps... it can't hurt, just causes a bit more hassle at the grocery store. I recommend this because with hindsight, I know that I was celiac as a baby and child except that...
  10. Wow. Congrats to your son. He could very well be a celiac. I would stick with the diet and see if it continues.
  11. Ditto everyone else. :)Great advice there... I did lose weight, about 15lbs now, which began after I had been gluten-free about a month. My belly got noticeably flatter within about 2 weeks and proceeded any weight loss. It was a nice bonus to feeling better. LOL Double check where your TSH was in the range if you can. I ended up with Hashimotos...
  12. If you are giving the gluten-free diet a try, I would recommend doing it for at least 3 months. My first couple of weeks gluten-free caused me to feel worse; I think it was a withdrawl. It takes a lot of time for some symptoms to resolve but if you tried it for a few months, and there was no improvement, then you are probably not gluten intolerant. I...
  13. Welcome ksue. Whoever told you you were not a celiac was mistaken. Unlike celiac disease, there is no test that will indicate non-celiac gluten intolerance (NCGI). This food sensitivity is diagnosed by how well you respond to a gluten-free diet. NCGI sufferers will have the same symptoms as celiacs but they will not have the intestinal damage....
  14. (hugs) to you, tspiggy. It's crazy at first but you do get used to it pretty quickly. Honest! I think it took me about 2 months to feel very comfortable shopping gluten-free, and to restock my fridge and pantry with gluten-free soy sauces, etc, and figure out what xanthum gum is. Get a few good celiac books from your library. Green's Celiac Disease:...
  15. I used to go with immodium and Gas Rx. It helped a bit.
  16. I think doctors forget they are dealing with real, live people. How insensitive! Maybe she just didn't like the fact that you might be doing a better job of doctoring yourself than she is... Good luck with the blood tests.
  17. I don't know... I know celiac can destroy the crypts in your small intestine but I don't think damage is done to the large intestine too. I'm sure others will know more.... Best wishes.
  18. I just had a GP. The type who confirm I have celiac and said don't eat gluten. I had to request all my follow-up tests and such; I don't think he knows much about it.
  19. Oh yes... I used to carry Gas Rx with me everywhere I went. I was often mistaken for being pregnant; it was all out in front. I used to push back on my stomach for relief... just waiting for my skin to split. LOL After strictly eating gluten-free for a month, I lost 10 lbs and I'm sure it was all the bloat. Yuck. You're glutenning yourself. You should...
  20. Good luck. I hope you get clear results.
  21. Celiac is an autoimmune disease in which your small intestine is attacked by your immune system when you consume gluten, which acts as the attack's trigger. If you do not eat gluten, the antibodies that were attacking your intestines will fall to low levels or even zero. This does not mean you are cured, only that you have not been eating gluten so your...
  22. I'm glad you are starting to feel better so quickly. Unfortunately, because you have been gluten-free for 10 days, there is a chance that your celiac tests (I'm assuming that's what was ordered) will be negative, or a false negative. For cliac tests to be truely accurate, you need to be eating gluten uo until the time of the test. It is possible that...
  23. I think I remember reading how treated celiacs cholesterol can get worse once your gut heals because you can absorb the "bad" stuff now too. I'm afraid I can't remember the source though. I hope you find answers.
  24. How frustrating for you! Lisa gave you good advice. Continue with the gluten until your upper endoscopy is done. Check that 6 or more samples will be taken; I've heard many people say that more is usually better because the damage is patchy and not uniform.... you don't want the doctor to miss a damaged spot because they went too quickly. You...
