  1. Two years? Sigh. LOL I'm glad to hear it thickened up for you.
  2. I had constipation issues with celiac my entire life. I had D only a couple of times a year and it was usually related to illness or bad food. C is also caused by hypothyroidism which has almost all of the same symptoms as celiac. I didn't have relief until my hypothyroidism was treated. Best wishes.
  3. I have seen it written here, and elsewhere, that there is a 25% false negative rate. Other tests I've seen have said much lower but I'm afraid I am unsure what is correct. My tTg IgA and EMA were very positive so I wasn't faced with that issue. I do know that if you are in the early stages of the disease, a child, or IgA deficient, you are much more...
  4. I curious what 2G Pharma will say. I would assume they'll stand by their product. I know it worked for me... you would think it would only show the line when it's reacting with the ttg IgA... A homeopath or naturopath might be a good idea. They can work wonders for people. I have one good friend who had an autoimmune nerve problem on her face which...
  5. Have you had your thyroid checked? Losing weight and shakes could be Graves or Hashimotos (switching hyper to hypo). Thyroid problems can cause the same symptoms as celiac but it is about 10 times as common. If you are having it checked, check the TSH but also check free T4 and TPO Ab if possible. With hindsight I can see that I've had hypothyroid problems...
  6. Congratulations! I'm glad he had good news. and I hope a gluten-free diet kick starts his growth and he catches up quickly. We're going through the exact same with my 9 year old son. His growth has steadily gone down the chart. He's getting his Xray within the next week, and he's just switched to gluten-free. I hope we get promising news like you...
  7. Oh wow. I fully expected to to have a positive test; I'm really surprised that your ttg Iga didn't come back positive after that positive Biocard ttg Iga home test you did a couple of weeks ago. I don't know how one test can be positive one week and then the next week, when it's done by a different lab, it's negative...Unless celiac can flare like the...
  8. I was wonderting how you all plan on handling Halloween in order to keep it gluten-free? This is my kids first Halloween gluten-free, and our plan is to trick or treat, and let the kids keep some of the safe foods, and trade the rest in to a local dentist who buys kids' candy back from them according to it's weight... I'm assuming my boys will keep the...
  9. My celiac has always shown itself with stomach pains and constipation, including when I was a child. I ended up with hemorrhoids at a fairly young age because of the irritation. When the hemi's bleed it comes out red, that is what most adults see. Your little guy is so young though that I would check it out as soon as possible just to be sure. Best...
  10. Rectal nerve... that sounds exactly like what I described... yeah, shouldn't last that long... I also get hemohorroid pain but that's not as sharp of a pain... although there are times it hurts to sit down. That is an internal pain, definitely ass pain, but for me it was never a shooting pain. It can be a sharp pain when you sit down hard but it's more...
  11. I don't know if it's a good alternative. For baking, I've subbed applesauce and extra cocnut oil for eggs but to be honest, I haven't tried that with gluten-free baking yet; I imagine you'd need extra xanthum gum too. I've only eaten qual eggs once and while I found them tastey, I doubt I'd get them again because of the cost. Plus there's that cuteness...
  12. I have a bad back and tend to get sciatic pain in my glutes... er, butt cheeks. Just to the side of the big muscle but still on the cheek. It radiates to the outside of my thighs to the side of my knees, down my shins to my big toe on bad days. On better days, it's just the cheek. It can be a horrendous pain that takes your breath away when it hits suddenly...
  13. Jestgar has that right. It's an increased risk but not a scary one.
  14. He's still in the process of bringing my TSH down, I'm just impatient with the process. He started me at 50mcg synthroid for 7 weeks and now I'm on 75mcg and will be checked again in about a month. He has said that he is aiming for a TSH below a 6 (top of the lab range) and I'm pretty sure that I'll have to fight him to treat my symptoms rather than the...
  15. (hugs) Welcome to the board. It sounds like you need to be gluten-free, so I hope the withdrawl ends for you soon. It took me about two weeks to go through it... I'm lucky my family didn't disown me. I slowly made my family gluten-free (we hs too btw), it took a couple of months. I slowly introduced gluten-free foods they liked before I started...
  16. I did have thick hair when I was a teenager. Back in the 80's (decade of shoulder pads and big hair) I had a perm and my hair looked so thick it's width was almost past my shoulders...and I've got wide shoulders. It's been thinning for so long, and mostly very slowly (except for a few periods like a month ago and postpartum) that it snuck up on me. I can...
  17. Fluffies are good! LOL To bad this isn't the 80's, I could tease my hair back into sky high knots and curls. LOL
  18. Thanks Linda. My hair was coming in quite nicely on the gluten-free diet but then something flared up and it fell out worse. I'm hoping being gluten-free will help it grow in again... like before. Thanks Rosetapper. I'm hoping it was just a hashi's flareup since I had just started on synthroid a week or two before the "shedding" occurred....
  19. Thanks for the advice... I don't take a B6 so I'll add that to my grocery list. I'm not sure about the lupus, it could be something else (like MCTD or UCTD) or just residual celiac or hashimoto problems, or nothing autoimmune related (doubt that one). I'm waiting to see a rheumatologist but apparently there is a doctor shortage since I haven't heard back...
  20. I've heard L-glutamine can help with the healing. Luckily I haven't been glutened recently so I haven't personally tried it out. I'm glad you are feeling better.
  21. I thought I posted on this yesterday but I guess it got lost with the forum changes. Anyway... I'm about 4 months into the gluten-free diet. At 2 months, I noticed that I was getting some new growth, which was very welcome because my hair has been steadily thinning for over a decade. Unfortunately at around that same time, I had some sort of autoimmune...
  22. Like the autoantibody tests, the vitamin tests can be misleading. My autoantibodies were off the chart but my vitamin levels were great; in fact B12 was higher than normal. My only low vit was D and it was still inside of the "normal" range... not bad for a Canadian. LOL
  23. I use it too. In the past I have found it very helpful with reducing exercise induced inflammation... really helps reduce muscle soreness.
  24. Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. But I'm happy that you figured it out and have the test results to back it up... With those numbers, there is no question that you have it. I hope you have a quick recovery and are able to see improvements within a week or so. Good luck to you, but I'm sure you'll do fine. The diet takes a bit of getting used to but...
  25. I was a tad bit nauseated early on. I think it was because I was eating too many processed gluten-free foods. Try not to eat a large amount of packaged foods if you can; many gluten-free foods are nutrionally very poor and can do a number on your tummy if you eat a bunch. Withdrawl could be an issue too. I felt pretty poor my first couple of weeks but...
