  1. Dominos isn't gluten-free enough for celiacs... sorry you aren't feeling well now. I was diagnosed at 38, and I've had stomach issues forever. Nothing horrendous, but enough for me to have not felt well and have pain... often. You are definitely not too old. I would get tested for celiac as soon as you can since you must continue to eat gluten for an...
  2. I was diagnosed celiac with those blood tests. My doctor was confident it was celiac and didn't bother sending me for a biopsy. I have improved greatly on a gluten-free diet so I'm sure he was right. It sounds like she has celiac; perhaps have her tested for other problems like hypothyroidism, that can give a positive ttg test... if those are negative...
  3. I too accidently glutened myself a couple of times in the first month. Now that I'm done two months gluten-free, I can say that my stomach feels great (I had stomach aches so often before) and it's much flatter, I've lost over 10 lbs, and I don't have migraines any more. I was also discovered to be hypothyroid so many of the same symptoms still persisting...
  4. Without trying I lost 15lbs in 2 months while still eating icecream a few times a week. My belly is essentially GONE! I thought it was middle aged belly fat. lol No more stomach aches every day. No more migraines. Bathroom trips aren't nearly as ...smelly.
  5. I too believe I was celiac my entire 38 years, and was diagnosed only a couple of months ago. When I was 19, I developed ITP where my white blood cells mark my platelets to be attacked so I couldn't clot anymore. That almost got me, and resulted in my spleen being removed (spleen kilss whatever the white blood cells attach to). A couple of years later...
  6. My husband didn't get it until I drank a supposedly gluten-free beer that was started with barley but they processed it until it was gluten-free to 3 parts per million and I balloned up like I was pregnant. The symptoms get more obvious (for me) as I go along. I didn't realize how bloated I was until I lost the bloat. My stomach has totally flattened...
  7. Ruby's mom - That's great that your grave's is in remission! I've never heard of that either. I've read there is a chance of that if hypo if it was celiac induced... but I'm not holding my breath. LOL You've got a great attitude about the celiac! I hope it goes smoothly for you.
  8. I think reactions vary wildly. Some people have almost no symptoms and others end up bedridden. Some celiacs have no gastro symptoms where as others just get that. Reactions hit immediately to days later... I tend to get a stomach ache after 15 minutes; bloating in about an hour ,which is very uncomfortable for about a day, and lasts in a milder form...
  9. I found it helpful to get tested because I was nervous about going entirely gluten-free, although I had greatly cut back my wheat intake already after reading Wheat Belly (GREAT book). It's almost easy (for me) to stay gluten-free when I know it damages me. If I was "just" gluten intolerant, there's a chance I would have cheated since the damage done wouldn...
  10. I don't know if it would still be accurate for someone who had been gluten-free for over a month or not. I suppose it depends on how long you've had celiac and how well the antibodies stay in your blood stream. I don't know if this test is weaker than the ones in the office. I had a very weak positive with biocard but that could have been due to the...
  11. My experience was the opposite of yours. I had some intestinal symptoms and suspected gluten intolerance or celiac for a year or so before actually getting tested. When I got my positive diagnosis (through blood work only) it was almost a confirmation of what I suspected. I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's too, which I didn't expect at all since...
  12. Rosetapper23 (((HUGS))) Best wishes to you. I was last glutened about a month and a bit ago when I ordered a daiquiri and cedar planked salmon with roasted carrots and potatoes with a side greek salad from the gluten-free menu from a supposedly gluten-free savy restaurant. I have no idea what was cc'd but something got me good and it took about 2 weeks...
  13. Beachbirdie - I find it odd that docs put so much in TSH too! What if it's high because of my pituitary? Or my TRH isn't working? Odd. I didn't realize that the natural thyroid could affect TSH like that. I'll remember that if I switch onto that in the future. I thought it was funny that they said I'd start to feel better after one week on the...
  14. Pricklypear - I feel lucky that I never had to deal with DH. I think I've had small flares a couple of times but it disappeared within a couple of months... I was lucky. I never thought I had brain fog but after reading how you, and others describe it, I'm beginning to think I do have it to a degree. I lose words all the time, and really basic vocabulary...
  15. I bought a new cutting board and got rid of my wooden spoons and that's it. I have a toaster oven that has been well cleaned and scrubbed. I moved the last of my hubby's gluten containing foods and cereals to the bottom shelf of the pantry so it doesn't spill on my stuff and replaced common cooking items that were not gluten-free like soy sauce, bouliion...
  16. Thanks Beachbirdie. We're starting with a low T4 and I guess we wait and see how the labs adjust... and how I feel after 6 weeks. The pharmacy and doctor told me I might start feeling better in a week. That surprised me since I thought it took longer. I actually feel worse today but I think it's a flu coming on because I am shivery, cold and achey...
  17. HUGS. It can be a shocker. I'm a 38 yo SAHM too, and I also wondered if approaching middle age was supposed to feel that sluggish. I got enough done because I had to but I definitely don't have the cleanest house on the street, and would rather curl up with a book than walk my kids to a park. It was almost a relief to find out that I was celiac and that...
  18. I too have triglycerides that are below the normal reference range even though I am hypothyroid and that usually raises your cholesterol. Score 1 for celiac. lol
  19. Let's hope that "three times the charm" and no more AI diseases will pop up.
  20. My doctor was reluctant to run too many tests; I had to pester him for what he did run. He said the hematology would show deficiencies. He did run Serum Folate (41.7 with a reference range greater than 12.1) and Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy (106.0 with reference range of 80.0-200.0). All my tests were in normal range except B12 which was high (898 with ref range...
  21. That's what I'm thinking for a couple of my kids... They could be celiac and the tests didn't show it. Going gluten-free won't hurt them in any way, except they'll miss some flavours and textures for a while. Eating gluten-free, as far as I can tell, is usually healthier so going gluten-free is a win-win situation as far as I can tell... as long as...
  22. Thanks PricklyPear. I think writing it all down is a good idea. I think I'll start a journal this week so I can keep it all straight. As you said, the symptoms overlap quite a bit so when (what I thought was celiac) symptoms disn't start clearing up after a month, I was a bit disappointed. Actually I was rather surprised when all of my vitamin levels came...
  23. I finally got my kids tests back, although my doctor only ran the ttg IgA even though I requested the the panel (which is IgA and EMA up here) and all three kids were negative. I'm accepting that for now. There is a chance they could have it, and a few mild signs, but all of their ttgIgA were very low. The only test that came back a problem was...
  24. I was diagnosed with celiac about 2 months ago and have been gluten-free the entire time except for 2 accidents. I've noticed improvements in some areas of my health like less bloating and evening bloat pain, fewer migraines, lost 10+lbs, less stomach aches, and my skin has cleared a bit BUT I didn't feel remarkably better. Granted I didn't feel sick before...
