  1. Going gluten-free REALLY helped my migraines. I think I had one about 2/3 of the time and now it's down to a few days of the month. I didn't realize I had it so much until they left. lol Brad King's Ultimate Migraine Headache Relief helps me take the edge off. I found with ibuporfen and tylenol, the edge would be lessened but my body still had that...
  2. Easy bruising could be a sign of platelet deficiency, it's called thrombocytopenia. Is your vitamin K okay? Did they check your platelet levels? If it gets to be chronic and bad it's called idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura or ITP. It can happen when your platelets fall under an autoimmune attack. It happened to me a long time ago and can get life threatening...
  3. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you are better soon. I agree with the others. It was probably the chips. Even if they claim they are baked, they are often "freshened up" with a quick fry in that contaminated oil. Perhaps some restaurant cards would help. You could dicreetly give one to the wait staff to give to the kitchen. That might...
  4. Awesome! I had gluten-free crumbs in my butter the other day and it made me scared, I still had to skim off the top layer before I would use it. LOL
  5. I'm glad you got a diagnosis and I hope you are feeling better soon. I found my GI issues are now mostly sorted out after 3 months gluten-free. I'm guessing you'll see a good improvement by Halloween. Buying gluten-free baked goods is expensive and I have cut back severely on that. My family of 5 is now gluten-free, and I buy 1 loaf of Udi's bread...
  6. There's a book called Special Diets for Special Kids (II) which is casein and gluten-free tips and recipes aimed at kids on the spectrum. I looked at it a few years back and can't remember what it all has. It might have some good ideas for you.
  7. Hypothyroidism symptoms are almost the same as celiac, and I personally have found the fatigue from that worse than the celiac, but that's just me. The two diseases are strongly linked. I would suggest getting your TSH, T4, T3 and TPOAb levels checked. If TSH is even a bit high, and T4 and T3 are normal to low, that could be causing your problem too. TPOAb...
  8. Do you take a sublingual tablet? I think they work better than a normal vitamin you would swallow. After being gluten-free just a week or so, my B12 tested well above the normal range (I think it was 890 and the reference range's upper limit was 750) even with very positive celiac blood tests. I actually cut back my B12's after I was diagnosed. LOL Your...
  9. As of today, I'm cutting out nightshades. So if it's related, I could expect to see improvements by Halloween. I don't eat soy already (and I've learned it's hard on hypo patients too) so that's no problem for me. I guess I should probably cut all the dairy at the same time. Hmmm. I'll have to google the best way to approach an elimination diet. One...
  10. I don't think I ever asked permission now that I think about it. LOL I think my doctor only saw me afterwards for a 6 month check up. My midwives knew about the ITP, checked my blood a couple of times, and that was that. ... And i was able to avoid creepy doctors. Ick. My ITP is viewed as a non-issue by the medical community as far as I can...

    ARCHIVED Success!

    Congrats!
  12. Hmmm, I used to get long nosebleeds too but I think it's because I'm in Calgary and it's so dry here. A humid day is 40% and if we have a fog, everyone comes to the window to look. LOL The doctors borderline about the blood transfusion with me. This was '92 and it seemed scary then too, so they let me decide if I wanted it. I passed on it but they...
  13. I'm glad your tests came back so good. That's great. Has your doctor looked into other autoimmune diseases like pernicious anemia or infection of Helicobacter pylori? There could be something else, although I certainly hope it's still just your body healing up. Best wishes. I hope you feel well soon.
  14. Oh wow, it is RARE to find a fellow "ITP"er without a spleen. My ITP hit hard 20 years ago when I was 19 and went on the pill. Within a couple of months my period would not stop... I know the doctors said it was a coincidence but I really doubt it now. My platelet count was 2 at one point. LOL I remember the doctors telling my not to sneeze or cough...
  15. Thanks Cyberprof. The pain is managable... so many around here have it much worse than I do. I was thinking along the same lines as you. There are some proactive things the medical community could do to slow progression of AI's like RA so it's probably better to know. Plus we could be on the lookout for complications that go along with those AI's...
  16. Thanks Lisa. I appreciate it. Wow, your symptoms sure do sound similar. That flu-like feeling is a funny one... like I'm not yet sick but it's coming, and then it doesn't. And yah! No temp even though it feels like you could... but I gave up taking my temp because I rarely hit 98F. LOL It's good to hear your joints are improving. I thought...
  17. I'm worried about my joint pains. In the past, I've been a real "suck it up and get on with it" sort of person. I tend to avoid doctors after they brushed me off in my youth; I developed the attitude of "they can't do anything to fix it so why bother going". I only went to the doctor if a flu turned into a secondary infection and I needed antibiotics. ...
  18. Over the last 2-3 months since I went gluten-free I noticed (in approximate order): no stomach aches after I ate no nightime bloat andassociated pains migraines are 0-1 a month instead of a few days a week stomach flattened out noticeably lost 10-15 lbs some new hair growth less muscle cramps at night less problems with plantar fascitis...
  19. I think gliadin IgA is considered innaccurate because it has a higher false negative rate than ttg IgA... I think. I think gliadin IgA indicates celiac. If it has a low specificity (meaning it could test positive for other problems) I would have the GI or pediatrician explain what those possible causes are instead of brushing it off as he he did...

    ARCHIVED Follow Up With Doctor

A thyroid check might be a good idea; TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), T4 and TPOAb (thyroid peroxidase anibodies) will give you an idea if you have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, which can show up in celiacs and has many of the same symptoms. A hypo result would be high TSH, low/normal T4 and high TPOAb. Best wishes.
  21. I like the Schneiders Naturals. No nitrites and no gluten. Very short ingredient list.
  22. It looks like you're doing a great job staying gluten-free. I hope my TTG tests get low like that.
  23. (((hugs))) Hang in there. You'll get them sorted out in the end. Best wishes.
  24. Everyone gave you great advice so I won't add more. I can only add that I am almost positive that I was celiac my entire life; I had stomach aches and "C" even as a baby yet doctors dismissed it... possibly because I was a tall slim kid. I was always 90th to 100th percentile for height although less for weight. Really tall. My only growth abnormality...
  25. Disturbing article... my first born son has some celiac and hypothyroidism symptoms (tested negative to celiac) and is (partially) diagnosed with Aspergers (we didn't finish the diagnosis since there is no benefit to it at this time). I had untreated celiac and hypothyroidism while pregnant with him, and I'm starting to wonder about RA since I had a positive...
