  1. That's great you are feeling better so soon! Congrats! I'm sorry to hear you were cc'd though; it's amazing how noticeable the symptoms are when we've been off gluten a while (I'm 2 months in). I was extra hungry the first week or two, and now I find I'm less hungry. I can go more than 2hours without eating. LOL I used to get the shakes if I did that...
  2. I am tired too but it's been recently "discovered" that my thyroid isn't working well through a hight TSH test. I've suspected thyroid problems in myself off and on for years, and I had my TSH tested a few times but they came back a slightly high normal so I let it go since my symptoms aren't extreme. I now know that TSH levela can vary WILDLY in a very...
  3. I'm glad she's starting to feel better, but I'm sorry that she had such a tough go. Best wishes to you all as you switch to gluten-free foods.
  4. It sounds like withdrawl, your poor little one. I know my withdrawl took about 2-3 weeks. It hit after a couple of days gluten-free and the worst part (migraine, bad sleep, tired soooo cranky) lasted a good week and then it slowly diminished. He's probably close to being done if he's at all like I was. Good luck to you and your family! My kids were...
  5. SuperSlim makes Brown Rice Crisps which are tastey, and mostly organic, rice crackers that my kids like a lot. Most rice crackers aren't marketed as gluten-free but they are. Flavoured rice cakes are tastey too. Could you ask the school to go healthier in their snacks? Goldfish crackers are on par with cheetos nutritionally; it's a shame they serve it...
  6. I too have had C my entire life. Unlike others, I tended to go about every other morning, but it always felt like my gut was just clearing out just enough to make more room to pack in more. It hurt my gut when it would try to get moving the night before. My only relief would be around "that time of the month" when everything would get cleared out by the...
  7. I was recently on Vancouver island for a couple of weeks to play in the ocean, watch surfers, and explore the giant cedar and rain forests, and I found it fairly easy to stay gluten-free which was surprising since I am still a newbie to celiac. We did stay in cabins most of the time so that made it easy to control my own food, butpeople in BC are pretty...
  8. My doctor diagnosed me as celiac with a very positive ttg IgA of over 200 (normal is 0-20) and a positive EMA of 1:40, and no endoscopy. I'm 38 and I strongly suspect I've been celiac since early childhood so I've had a longer time than your daughter to get my ttg levels way up there... That's just my theory. And yes, EMA is very specific to celiac. ...
  9. What a disappointing doctor! Sorry for your bad experience.
  10. My hubby thought it was overkill too until my bloated belly went down over the first few weeks, and then I was glutened by accident and he was shocked at how bloated I immediately became. It was a visual thing that made it real for him I guess. The fact that I was glutened by a "gluten-free" that had less than 3 parts per million made him realize how sensitive...
  11. Withdrawl hit me fast too, within a couple of days and it lasted two weeks, but it varies widely from what I've heard. The headache and crankiness ended up being the worst for me. I felt pretty run down too. Good luck with it all. It's only for a short while and then you'll be healing!
  12. Reverse T3, eh? Okay, got it written down. I am looking forward to reading up on all of this when I get home from vacation....Celiac I know because I suspected it for so long, but the thyroid stuff wasn't in question (lately ) and the tests were run as a precaution, so I'm unprepared... I don't like being unprepared. LOL I'll look into licorice...

    ARCHIVED Good Docs In Calgary?

    Thank you.
  14. Me! I was very tall kid who stopped growing in grade 6 when I was 5'8"... I was always in the 90+ percentile for height. I wasn't heavy but I wasn't real thin; I was about 135-140lbs for the next ten years. I was diagnosed at 38. I wish I had been gluten-free as a kid, I would have loved to have got a couple more inches. My cousin also has...
  15. Giggle giggle snort. Glad the visit went well. LOL Oh my...
  16. I think being tested benefited me. I've been gluten-free for about a month, although I was glutened by smaller amounts than I ever thought possible so I haven't felt better much of the time. So being off gluten doesn't feel much better but being glutened seems to be worse. Also, after being diagnosed, it led to finding out that I have some sort of hypothyroidism...
  17. My "hard withdrawl" lasted about 2 weeks but I'm almost 3 decades older so if her's is different, I'm guessing it will be shorter. It wasn't fun. The worst part for me was the tiredness, irritability (mixed in with self pity) and the headache (which wore me down after 10 days). I would let her skip the camping trip and make up for it with a sleepover or...
  18. Congrats! And that's great to look forward to.
  19. You definitely could be celiac... You have more symptoms than I did. I would push to get tested if I was you. The more common tests are tTg IgA, IgA, and EMA. There are more to complete the full panel so you might want to look into that. Don't start your gluten-free trial period before you get tested or it will affect your results. Good luck! I hope...
  20. I seem to be more sensitive now too... I think. It could be that I'm not used to the discomfort anymore but I don't think that's it entirely. I ate out a few days ago, and ordered gluten-free from a gluten-free menu and something got me, I have no idea what. I was shocked at how obvious my reaction was with the belly ache, bloat and migraine... Quite...
  21. That happened to me too! My periods got closer together, about 3 weeks apart, and lasted a week. What I hated was that I spotted for the week prior to it starting too so I only had about a week off in between. It lasted about 6 months... This was a year or two before I was diagnosed with celiac and (what appears to be) an under-active thyroid which I'm...
  22. Thanks for watching out for me, Janet, I appreciate it. I read the articles and they make sense. I am waiting to see what my other tests say before I take any meds, and I am leery of OTC drugs for hormones, so I wouldn't take it without looking into it and discussing it with a doctor. I agree with you on that. Plus, I'm up in Canada so the stuff...

    ARCHIVED Good Docs In Calgary?

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good GI specialist in the Calgary area? I'm just with my family doctor now, and while he's pretty good, I'd love someone who really knows their stuff. I also need an endocrinologist (recent abnormal TSH test)... one who knows celiac disease. Anyone? Thanks!
  24. I worry about smoke flavour. If it says smoke, we're good to go but smoke flavour... I skip it... partially because I'm too lazy to call and ask. I just buy another brand. LOL
  25. Roda, good to know. I'll remember that it might rise when I get it checked again in the future. your family is probably happy with their good levels... good genetics. It's a bummer that it's the celiac that is the genetic link, eh? I've had my TSH checked a few times. I remember getting it checked while trying to get pregnant with my...
