  1. Rachel... Thanks for posting this! Very informative and inspiring... I love to read about folks who, regardless of the professionals, have done what THEY feel best (especially when the "pros" weren't able to help). I've been having some difficulty "understanding" the folks who go to such extraordinary means ("gluten challenges", testing, etc) for an...
  2. Really?... I am so sad to hear about all this... you must be very scared and frustrated... I am far too new to give you any sound advice... I believe you would benefit from speaking with some of the experienced folks here... Might I suggest that you start a new thread? It seems like you would get more response to your specific concerns... Please...
  3. Beachbirdie...you read my mind! I think from what I've learned that the way that the medical community "confirms" celiac (by forcing people to put what is essentially POISON to them in their bodies) is CRAZY!!! There has to be progress in this area...has to... Not to mention that these tests have a high rate (30%???) of being false negative... Boggles...
  4. I do not know your symptoms/dx history but...is it safe to assume that your mom has been witness to your "sick"? Professionally dx or self-dx...I think you're still going to find that folks' eyes just glaze right over when you try to get them to "understand"...let's face it, there are doctors who just don't "get it"... However... I've been thinking...

  7. What do you eat, dmcook 1990?
  8. I'm just going to "ditto" what others have said....natural, whole foods (meats, fruits, veggies...cheese and dairy if you can tolerate). I eat...and I eat substantially... I think that the greatest factor for the weight gain experienced by some who go gluten free is that they try to "mimic" their old diets (which were unhealthy regardless of the gluten...
  9. First... The lack of knowledge pertaining to gluten intolerance/sensitivities/celiac/etc has nothing to do with the health insurance debate...it has to do with a lack of knowledge and/or willingness by the mainstream medical community to get its collective head out of its collective rear end... Second... I have to say that I, quite simply, can NOT understand...

  11. Teri, thanks for the understanding and support. Beachbirdie, I had blood drawn for my TSH, yesterday, as well. I will ask about the others. The problem with the pain is that it "moves" around my body...not in just one place...not just a foot...and it can be flared up for a few days or gone by the end of one. Thanks for the info...and the hugs...
  12. Tired...sick...scared... I'm just going to list what's wrong with me: In 2004, I suffered from hives...lasted about a year or so... The docs couldn't find the cause. I used benadryl but, when that didn't work I would be put on steroids... The hives disappeared one day and have never returned. I noticed "aches and pains" (mostly when I really pushed...
