ARCHIVED I'm Terrified Of This Dx... :(
justlisa replied to a84c72's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been concentrating on recipes using coconut flour and almond flour... My hubby is type 1 diabetic... You should check them out. (Keep in mind that some recipes aren't going to be very good...don't get discouraged! Through trial and error I've come up with some really good ones) -
ARCHIVED Exclusive Breastfeeding For 12 Months?
justlisa replied to allinyourhead's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is definitive clinical data which shows that Gliadin (the harmful protein in gluten) is found in the breast milk of lactating mothers who are not on a gluten-restricted diet... Open Original Shared Link Please, click on the "study" link in this article... I just wanted to share this... -
Now, that looks impressive! I wish I could find a place like it on the east coast... I've bookmarked it so I can go back and check out their online offerings. Thanks for sharing !

Finally@45... So glad that works for you... I will have to check that out! GFinDC... Thanks so much for adding that info to the thread! This forum has been so wonderful to me. I'm just hoping to bring awareness to the things I come across with hope that I can help someone else. Kitty... From what I've been reading, "topical" (skin) absorption...

ARCHIVED Whoa, Yes, I Am A Bit Overwhelmed
justlisa replied to Javamom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was quite impressed with Three Bakers.... The only problem that I have is that I can't get individual slices from the frozen loaf (have to thaw the whole thing). We just don't eat enough bread to make it worthwhile...so most of it went in the trash... That's the biggest reason why I've been thinking of baking my own bread...so I can freeze it in... -
ARCHIVED Message To All Of You Parents
justlisa replied to bartfull's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow...Bartfull...thanks for that! Your story about your dad sleeping on his arms made me tear up. You are, indeed, blessed to have been given such parents. Seeing how you've turned out, they did a great job. And I feel pretty confident in saying that they felt blessed to have YOU. Thank you for sharing this... -

That's all that you can do, honey...is try. For what it's worth...move forward. Does he sound like someone you'd want to be committed to? Someone you'd want/need to rely on? I know it's hard to see when you are the one involved...and it is sooo much easier for everyone else... But...is that what you want? Ask yourself.. honestly... If... -

Well said... My 17 yr old son is that kid that other mothers love... They could be cutting out a kidney and he'd just smile and ask if they need the other. But...for mom? Sigh... I tell him, almost daily, that there's a reason God makes mothers love their kids... I so love 17... -
ARCHIVED Being Celiac In America Is Unacceptable!
justlisa replied to Mennoknight's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The thing that sticks out, to me, with your example is that "you would know of your neighbor's peanut allergy"...how can companies "know" about the individual needs of their consumers? -
I don't know how to access those settings... I guess I will try to give verizon a call, tomorrow, and see if this would work for me. Thanks.
-
The mobile viewing does not have "settings" or a "report" button. And, I'm unable to add an avatar to my profile. Is this just for mobile phones? Will these features be coming to mobile? Certainly not a big problem...just wondering.

ARCHIVED What Should I Cut Out Before Egd?
justlisa replied to user853's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No one, in here, can determine if you're gluten intolerant or not... We can give our advice as best we can. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your questions and concerns. Questioning is quite healthy and, truth is, if you took what we say as the gospel without questioning...well...that wouldn't say much for you, IMO... With that said, I would... -

justlisa replied to moose07's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First, let me say that it makes me feel bad that some of you feel this way and/or have had such bad experiences. But (there just HAD to be a "but" ) I have a bit different perspective... And, well, I hope you're not offended and will listen with an open mind... Yes, there are jacka$$es out there...and, sadly, we all too often will find them... -
ARCHIVED Why Can't My Body Handle Long Runs?
justlisa replied to Kat Kuz's topic in Sports and Fitness
Rosetapper... I'm very interested in trying this omega ratio... Where do I find these oils? -
Rose... So sorry I missed those postings! I need to do more searching in here . This is definitely something that needs to come up a lot...especially for all us newbies. The biggest thing, for me, is how under-diagnosed this deficiency is...and how vital it is to all of us. Desp Lady... Wow...another "success"! I sooo love to hear about success...
-
Please take the time to read this... So many posts here from folks who have "gone gluten-free" but continue to have some significant symptoms. Fatigue, constipation, etc. I see B12 deficiency, thyroid, etc as suggestions...but I haven't come across magnesium deficiency, yet. So, I really wanted to bring it up... Magnesium is a CRITICAL element....

So...how long have you been gluten/dairy free? Any improvement? What allergies?
-
Hmmm..I thought this was an app on my android...or mobile viewing? I looked on my laptop...very different from my phone...
-
Yes...I'm hijacking your thread (I just wanted to support my fellow geriatrics. I've got a good 3 decades on you, too, kiddo ) But, seriously... I'm curious about how you came to suspect gluten/dairy? Symptoms? Any progress yet?

ARCHIVED Need Ideas From The Bakers/cooks In Here...
justlisa replied to justlisa's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Awesome... (duly noted on the "cut first"...thanks guys!) I'm going to try the baking method tonight... (I don't do much frying so the confidence level is pretty low). Any idea on temp/time for baking? I'm taking a pack of tortillas out of the freezer right now... -
