    My understanding of a Herx is that if its a "true" Herx you will be left feeling better than you felt prior to the Herx.     The "spit test" is not a reliable method of testing. First...yeast is something which lives in ALL of us...the spit test cant diagnose if candida albicans (a pathogenic yeast) is overgrown.     I agree with what Brian has said regarding diet. Theres no way around it....you need to do both antifungals and diet to control candida. The most important part of treating candida is often left unmentioned...this is determining the *cause* of the candida overgrowth. If you dont address the cause....the candida will almost always come back once you go...

    It does sound like Lyme....and you could also have Celiac as well (if you are genetically susceptible). Alot of Dr.'s know even less about Lyme than they know about Celiac...I would definately see a Dr. who specializes in Lyme and not a regular Dr.....and not an infectious disease specialist (surprisingly they know nothing about Lyme).     I take activated charcoal. I dont know about gas pains and such....my Dr. has me taking it because I'm on treatment for yeast and heavy metals. Charcoal helps to absorb toxins in the gut (i.e. yeast die-off). I just buy the brand they sell at Whole Foods.

    My Dr. only uses Igenix for Lyme testing so I never had to order the tests myself. The first tests he ordered for me were the Western Blots. There are two....IgM and IgG. Carla ordered her own and brought the kit to her Dr. I believe. Not exactly sure which panel she ordered.
