ARCHIVED Why The Food Intolerances?
Rachel--24 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know I've said it lots of times before...in response to your posts....but I'll say it again. Leaky gut. Do you know what triggered your Celiac in the first place?? Maybe yeast? Maybe bacteria? Something isnt quite right in your gut.....otherwise you wouldn't continue to have these problems. At this point it would seem to be a seperate issue from Celiac... -

Chlorine is really not a good thing. I kind of feel like the bath ball isnt really sufficient so I do feel like its not removing enough of the chlorine. I use the ball at my moms house but at home I have the showerhead filter and I fill my bath from the showerhead....I think it works alot better. I dont think its good for you to be taking baths in... -

Rachel--24 replied to AliB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wasnt aware at the time that epinephrine could be a problem for me. I had always been very healthy and had never had a negative reaction to any shots, food, chemicals, etc. The Graves Disease was my first sign of any health problems and I actually didnt think much of it as my symptoms werent severe. I would only experience symptoms during times of high... -

Kassandra...Sorry things are so rough right now. Its been one thing after another! Hang in there...it will get better. Try not to get overwhelmed with everything and just deal with each thing as it comes. I think you're doing a great job of this already. -

Usually when magnesium is high in the hair its actually indicating that you're probably deficient. Most of us who are sick are usually needing more magnesium...not less. If your body was utilizing the magnesium it wouldnt be coming out excessively in your hair. To be sure you can do a red blood cell test...that will tell you whether or not your levels... -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq 1,1 (subtype 6,6)
Rachel--24 replied to trcn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When the GI Dr.'s are running their tests....they are looking for Celiac Disease specifically. A person can have leaky gut and as a result the immune system is producing antibodies (since gluten would be recognized as "foreign" in the bloodstream) but this is a completely different situation then Celiac Disease. In my opinion those with DQ1 may be more... -
ARCHIVED Die-off Effect
Rachel--24 replied to trcn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There can be withdrawl symptoms....particularly with casein. This is very common in autistic children when first removing gluten and casein from the diet. The symptoms are caused by the sudden decrease in opiates. If you are addicted to these foods you can go through a withdrawl period. Its not "die-off" as that would involve some type of treatment which... -

Another thing about Enterolab....The Dr. who runs the lab (Dr. Fine) has never published anything for peer review. I, myself have been waiting for a few years now....however, it doesnt appear that he is willing to publish his findings.....which to me indicates that there may be problems with the testing. Basically, at this point noone really knows how... -
ARCHIVED Don't Understand Test Results
Rachel--24 replied to Carollynb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Endomysial Antibody IgA is an antibody which the immune system produces during active Celiac Disease. When there is no gluten in the diet the immune system does not produce these antibodies. You can go here for an interpretation of the antibody tests. https://www.celiac.com/articles/57/1/Interp...ults/Page1.html Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum....this... -
ARCHIVED Don't Understand Test Results
Rachel--24 replied to Carollynb's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I guess I'm a little confused....has he been on the diet for 2 years now...with only rare exposures to gluten? That would make any testing for Celiac Disease unreliable. Even if your son has Celiac he would not test positive having been on the diet for such a long time. He would have to have gluten as a constant in his diet for at least 3 months prior... -
ARCHIVED Oats Labeling Question
Rachel--24 replied to lenjac's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Because wheat is not an ingredient in the product. Oats can be contaminated but still....no wheat is *intentionally* put into the product. Many products do not have wheat listed as an ingedient even though there may be a chance of cross contamination. Wheat is only listed when it is actually used as an ingredient in the product. -
ARCHIVED Hla-dq 1,1 (subtype 6,6)
Rachel--24 replied to trcn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As far as the genetic component. I'm not great at interpreting the genes/subtypes.....but DQ1 is more associated with neorological symptoms. A very small percentage of biopsy proven Celiacs have the DQ1 gene instead of DQ2 or DQ8. That being said.....in all of my time on this board (as well as others) I have not seen anyone with DQ1 clear up their health... -
ARCHIVED Negative Tests But gluten-free Diet Works
Rachel--24 replied to ginnym's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Is it possible that I do have coeliac even with the supposedly negative tests? Yes....its possible. The tests arent 100% reliable (especially the biopsy). Is it possible to have false negatives on the blood tests? Yes.....it is certainly possible...especially if one is IgA deficient....or not consuming enough gluten in the diet. Is it possible... -

If you dont experience these symptoms while on the gluten-free diet and you only get hives when consuming wheat.....why not just stay on the diet and feel better?? As Riceguy said.....if you started the diet in Aug. and were tested in December it could not have been an accurate test. You have to be eating gluten on a regular basis in order to have reliable... -

Rachel--24 replied to krumbling's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, As others have mentioned you cant get an official diagnosis of Celiac Disease without getting back on gluten for at least 3 months before retesting. There is still no guarantee that you will test positive even after all of the suffering. I actually had every symptom on your list (plus many more) with the exception of diabetes and herpes...however... -

Hi, How long ago was it that you had your thyroid ablated? I had Graves but managed it pretty well with meds for the first few years. After some dental work I had done (mercury!) and antibiotic treatment (yeast!) my symptoms worsened significantly. One of the first things was hairloss (bigtime) but I also was having very bad headaches, sweating, shakiness... -

I'm glad the OBGYN is on your side with this and like Julie said....taking her time to make sure you get things right. Hopefully, this will put an end to all that bleeding and the anemia as well. I know if I was having those types of symptoms I'd have to do something to stop it from getting worse.....luckily I havent had the period problems or any pain... -

Theres alot of evidence/research which indicates that candida is a probable cause for alot of cases of fibroids and cysts. Obviously, nothing that mainstream would acknowledge...so the normal treatment would be hormones and/or surgery.....but from what I understand many of the people with endometriosis or these other issues involving the reproductive organs... -

Yeah...thats why I'm super glad that we're gonna focus more on my gut issues now and hopefully get on the right antifungal treatment to get the yeast more under control. My gut really needs to start healing and its not gonna happen until we can correct these imbalances and clear up the gut infections. Alot of the things I've done have been helpful but... -

Patti....yeah....I think thats what she was saying. She didnt diagnose me with endometriosis but I was supposed to have that surgery so that she could check it. It was a long time ago but from what I posted I think that was the plan. She did say even with the surgery there is no guarantee that it would get diagnosed. I dont like the idea of taking... -
ARCHIVED Tooth Problems. What's Your Experience?
Rachel--24 replied to AliB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
One of the things that my doctor is looking at as a possible "trigger" for my problems was the anesthetic used prior to the work that was done. We think it *may* have caused some problems that set off this cascade of events which *may* have put my body under stress and also impaired my abilty to detox. The injection contained epinephrine which many people... -
ARCHIVED Incredible Amount Of Hives On My Legs

Have you ever been tested for Celiac?? Celiac is not an allergy and allergy tests are not used to diagnose Celiac Disease. Was your endoscopy specifically for Celiac...meaning did they take samples?? Did you have bloodwork for Celiac? If you dont have these problems while you're not eating wheat...then it makes sense to me that you should probably... -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I had to look at my posts because it was around 2 years ago and I forgot exactly what happened. Anyways, it was the GI doctor who actually noticed a large cyst on my ovary on the results of a CT scan. He said it was larger than most (over 4 cm) and I needed to follow up with my regular doc. I ignored it for a couple months but I kept having some... -

Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Kassandra, I think this was before you joined the thread but awhile back I was found to have a large ovarian cyst....had to go back for repeated ultrasounds which showed that the cyst had gotten smaller. I guess that was a good sign because there was less concern after that. They also found a small fibroid. I also have elevated copper. I'm not sure...
