  1. Hello All, Just updating this post for anyone who may search it in the future. Many times I read posts and wonder if they ever figured out what the issue was... The shift in symptoms was actually a different issue- not from gluten. The two issues just happened to coincide and who knows maybe the glutening triggered the other immune response. Anyways...
  2. Don't worry about the endoscopy! I've had two of them. Although I am just like you and was freaking out prior to each of them (I don't like to be unconscious while people I don't know do things I don't understand to me!) there was no pain and discomfort aside from the IV needle stick. They aren't kidding when they say it will be over before you know it...
  3. Hi Alessandra, I just read your other post on "gluten-light" as well. Since you're certain that this is CC, I wanted to share some of my CC mishaps with you. I'm not much further along than you are, so please forgive me if you've already heard all of it. Cooking surfaces like grill grates have gotten me, even though the gluten items that were on the grates...
  4. I taught one year part time in both an urban elementary school and suburban high school, one year 5-7, and my last two years in public school were at a small 7-12 grade building. I had a whirlwind tour! Finding the best fit for your personality is key. You're lucky if you can figure out what that is and nail it down from the start!
  5. So glad to hear that you're making adjustments! You go girl!!
  6. One of my first noticeable symptoms was rib pain, both on the sides and at the sternum/breastbone. That showed up about 10 years ago and it was a mystery to doctors since I had no other symptoms. They called it muscular pain. I was just diagnosed in August. Therefore, I can tell you that symptoms became increasingly worse and numerous over time as the...
  7. Thank you all for your replies. I did eat lightly yesterday and I'm continuing today, although I still feel incredibly nauseous. Lots of juice and tons of water. I must have gotten up to pee 10 times last night! The swelling in at least one lymph node has gone away today as well. Man, I'm not used to this long of a reaction. It takes endurance! ...
  8. Thanks Lyn. I See my doc in a couple weeks and I'll be sure to let her know. I did just have a physical this month and all my bloodwork was normal. At that time, I had a swollen lymph node in arm pit (which I think also corresponds to a cross contamination issue). I'm fairly certain it is connected to my reaction to gluten, and I'm hoping the swelling goes...
  9. thanks Adalaide! evilness is the right would for it. ugh. I also have three swollen lymph nodes on my neck. Does that ever happen to you?
  10. I now teach at a university, but started off as a piano music ed major. Taught in the public schools for a few years before paying out the wazoo for grad school! We have a lot in common- it's good to know you! BTW, my husband has been known to also call me "the diva", but I keep hoping he's only joking. There's got to be no way you can function in an...
  11. Hello All, I have read some conflicting information on fasting, but the bits and pieces I've come across have been about rotational diets, which some discouraged for newbies. I'm wondering if any of you fast after a glutening, either because that feels best or because you've been advised to by a doctor. I've been gluten-free for 9 months and accidentally...
  12. I used to call my brain fog being "naturally stoned" . I had no idea why it came and went randomly. (probably related to several donuts in one sitting!) I didn't know what it was, but I knew I would fit in at a Phish show without a problem in those moments. It's good to be clear headed!!! Hope it continues for you!!
  13. I'm actually a soprano who wants to be a mezzo! Sopranos have such bad reputations in the classical music world (can't read music, horrible musicianship, not to mention narcissistic). Some instrumentalist friends of mine started calling me the anti-soprano, so now I wear it as a badge of honor. I love second sopranos and horn players- so we should get...
  14. Could it be low stomach acid? especially if you're seeing other identifiable food items in there? I was misdiagnosed as having acid reflux for years. In the end, I was on two pills of nexium a day. When I began the larger dosage, I thought it was odd that I could recognize my meals some of the time. I'm positive that I had low stomach acid at that point...
  15. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. Give it some time, you'll figure it out. Sorry I can't help you with the proton pump inhibitor. I don't really know what that is/does. Ignorance is bliss, I'm sure I hope you continue to improve!!!
  16. Thank you all for your posts and your willingness to help. It not only helps the person who started the thread, but those who go searching for answers- even for for years to come. I just ate the ONLY bloody Altoid that isn't gluten free (just my luck) and was looking for ways to combat the reaction knowing that it's coming. Maybe the wheat maltodextrin...
  17. For the first few months, I would have symptoms and not really know why. I did keep a food journal for about a month. It made me feel as though I was keeping track of some things, especially since my symptoms were delayed (which is why I had no real idea I had celiac until a good GI helped me out). The first real glutening I had after ditching the gluten...
  18. I was just trolling the forum because I have been down and out for 4 days with a UTI (something I have experienced before many times, but never with extreme fatigue). I have been gluten free for 9 months and have been sick more often and more severely since going off gluten than I ever have been in my life. My bout with the stomach bug in January (again...
  19. Dear All, I've been gluten free since Aug, so I'm still pretty new to this. I was wondering if symptoms change in severity (for better or worse) or if the actual symptoms change the longer you are gluten free. Given the fact that this disease provokes pretty individualized responses, I'm guessing it varies per person. But I thought I'd take a straw...
  20. Just FYI- I was seeing a therapist and was considering anti-anxiety drugs right before my diagnosis was made. The reason I went to the therapist in the first place was because I honestly thought I was a hypochondriac. Turns out, without gluten, I'm just fine. I no longer feel the need to talk to someone and I definitely don't need the meds. Imagine my...
  21. I have a friend that had seizures as a child and recently had another. After many tests, the docs told her that it was due to a Vitamin B (I forgot which one) deficiency. After finding that she has another couple major Vitamin deficiencies, she is having an endoscopy this week to see if the malabsorption is being caused by celiac. Memory loss- even if...
  22. I don't know what the difference between being bloated and retaining water in the abdomen is, but all I can tell you is that I've lost 2 lbs and my pants are uncomfortably tight. I've been gluten-free for about 4 weeks and had my first unintentional glutening about a week ago. I'm not sure why my abdomen is soooo swollen, all I can tell you is that it most...
  23. Have you considered yeast overgrowth, especially with the reaction you had to starch in the potatoes and sugar in the bananas? I came across this blog when I was first researching Celiac a few weeks ago. I hope it proves helpful to you! Open Original Shared Link Best of luck!!!
  24. Hello All- I am a newly diagnosed Celiac who has been gluten-free for about a month. I had my first (and surely not my last) glutening a few days ago. Reading several posts, it seems as though most people experience GI symptoms; stomach pain, D, bloating, etc. I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that had a similar reaction to mine, which...
