  1. Did your daughter have her nutrient levels checked? Maybe she's anemic? Good luck! I'm on my third day gluten-free and having a lot of stomach pains, though I'm being very strict. I think the healing process can be painful for some of us.
  2. Thanks, Cara and Neroli. I do think that the best thing for my son is to have a good endoscopy done BUT I don't think it's feasible now. I was already annoyed with this GI for a number of things but then she called me back with the results of these tests. She wanted to go forward with a colonoscopy and endoscopy which I had pushed for but she said, "Apparently...
  3. I'm very recently diagnosed with celiac. I've been looking through articles and Newbie 101 and ordered a couple books. But I'd love some apps for my phone for when I'm out shopping that show ingredients I should avoid and ingredients that are ok. Some people have recommended logging my food an symptoms so maybe there's an app for that?
  4. Nice to meet you too Prairiemamma. I am personally on a roller coaster. I do get sad when I think about things like the baking the family sugar cookie recipe at Christmas. But mostly I'm so happy to be able to do something to help my little boy. It's actually an amazing feeling. And I feel like with specialists I've seen about his motor delays and speech...
  5. Hi Cara, I had her fax me the results this time. I was a little confused because she only told me two results on the phone but I thought the panel was four tests. I'll write it down here. She said when she was ordering blood work that she was doing a "full panel" because the prior one was not complete. Transglutaminase lgG Autoantibodies <3.0 Transglutaminase...
  6. I'm in southern CA and it's always a lot higher here. Milk is usually at least $4/gallon and I don't buy organic. I moved here from Manhattan where you would imagine prices would be really high (rent, it's an island, cost to truck food in limited storage) but the prices are the same here. But people make a lot less money on average.
  7. I'm with you. I made a very similar decision to not do a scope with a gi who had proven herself ignorant of celiac. When she called me and said, "I've never seen a child get a negative blood test and then get a positive biopsy but I GUESS it does happen", I just knew I didn't want this person scoping my child and profiting from it. I'm sure she has sent tons...
  8. I'm very recently diagnosed with celiac and I kind of took the express train to treatment with the gluten-free diet. I posted on another thread but basically I started researching celiac during the testing of my 4yo son. I was shocked to see myself so clearly in a lot of the descriptions. I emailed my primary doctor and she ordered a celiac panel which came...
  9. Thanks everyone. I just got diagnosed yesterday and my doctor has agreed that in my case it's fine to quit gluten. She's really great. I emailed her a request to get the celiac panel because I wanted it done for my other son's diagnosis and she immediately sent me the orders. And when I explained my worry about the baby she said it's fine to quit in my case...
  10. I think there are lots of things to factor in when buying food for your family. I just wanted to throw out there with regard to the feed of the cattle, are you worried about them eating wheat grain? As far as I know, cattle is only usually fed corn and soybeans. When I have the resources and the access I like to get organic meat for my family but I don't...
  11. I was just wondering if others have always had an aversion to bread and other forms of wheat? I have been someone who slips the meat and cheese out of my sandwich because the bread just grosses me out, leaves pizza crusts for my husband to eat. I have always had a sweet tooth and so I like simple carbohydrates in any form, cake, white pasta, but I suspect...
  12. Hi Everyone, I've been obsessing about my older son for months (well years) and I'm sure he has celiac. I just got my positive blood test today, after taking the test because of coming here to read more about my son's symptoms and realizing how many symptoms I have. It's a lot to take in but I just realized I have to think about my 8 month old who I breast...
  13. I also have a four year old and haven't gotten his formal diagnosis but I believe it is coming. I just got my positive blood work today but I was tested because he was having such clear celiac symptoms and I started reading around and realized how many symptoms I've had. I just wanted to say hi because my ds is also speech delayed and has motor problems....
  14. Thanks! I have to say I'm actually happy to get the diagnosis if it will help my son. In addition to GI issues recently, very slow growth, he also has terrible attention problems, gets so fatigued, has a lot of motor issues. I know not to expect the world from going gluten-free but if there is something that will help him get the nutrition he needs to be...
  15. I'm glad you found a good doctor in Dr. Pietzak. I just had a bit of a frustrating conversation with her scheduler and was told that she only sees confirmed celiacs. Since I have celiac, my son has a lot of symptoms but tested negative on blood work I wanted to see an expert in the area. Unfortunately Dr. Piezak doesn't want to see people like us!
  16. My son has been tested three times since he was one and a half, blood tests only, because of short stature, failure to thrive. I have to admit I was very cynical and didn't really pay attention to the first two rounds of testing, just heard he was negative. But now he's textbook celiac, gi problems in addition to growth issues. And I got myself tested and...
  17. Thanks everyone! I do think I'll get tested and will call my doctor tomorrow. I'm just going to have to learn more about the testing to figure everything out. The thing is my son has had a full celiac panel at least twice before now and stool testing and was negative. But I want to look at the numbers again. He is getting an endoscopy in two weeks, which...
  18. I just came to this board while searching related to my son who I strongly suspect has celiac. The thing is, the more I read, the more I wonder if I should get tested myself. It's not something I ever would have thought of but then I read different things and they connect to a lot of health issues I've always dismissed as minor or psychosomatic. As a child...
  19. Hi, I'm new to this board and looking for anyone to weigh in on my four-year-old son's symptoms and history. I have to wait two weeks until GI can get him in for endoscopy/colonoscopy and I just feel like I might be making my son sicker every day. I guess I was wondering if he sounds like a typical kid with celiac and if so, do you think I should go gluten...
