  1. Psawyer, Sorry I was not clear enough. I gave the brand of the person's coffee's as an example.

There is gluten in Starbucks. Can I quote chapter and verse? no, but I found this out last year, I believe, when Starbucks announced they were was updating on of their drinks as gluten free. I think it was the bottled frappes. The article noted that not all of their drinks are gluten free. The Ah Ha Light went on for me knowing that for years previous to my diagnosis I had to avoid Starbucks. Within minutes of having one of their coffees, I was running for the restroom and stayed there for a very long time. I had no idea why. I have not drank Starbucks for many years.

My continuing GERD is a combo of my difficulty over giving up lactose and a deep love of all things tomatoe. BBQ sauce, spaghetti sauce, tomatoes with salt, salsa, tomatoe soup, etc, etc . . . In short, I love a bit of acid on my food. So no gallbladder+acid=

  2. I am going through the same thing right now. Got cc from a favorite eatery. Boo! Yesteday was the first day i was able to eat solid foods. I spents several days consuming soup,, gatorade, and water. Finally the nastiness has stopped, but i am weak and abdomen is sore. Still just wearing jimjams. I hate that torn up feeling inside.

  3. I have terrible GERD, but of course i also had my gallbladder removed before i was diagnosed as gluten intolerant. I do not think i would do the same now, but i can not change it now! For me, it has never improved. I am on several meds for acid reflux. To the person who mentioned coffee, what brand are you drinking? Have you thought of changing brands? Some are more acidic. Some contain gluten. Starbucks coffee contains gluten. I become sick within minutes. In fact, that was one of the first products that i eliminated years ago. All i knew was that it made me sick!

I know one's Gluten-Free status can be overwhelming in the beginning, but i would rather go my entire life without gluten than to go back to how life use to be. Maybe vacation was a bit too soon after your diagnosis. You will soon get use to it and in future learn to plan ahead by going on the internet to scope out eateries that have Gluten-Free menus and finding good grocery stores before going on vacation.

  4. For myself, i am gluten and lactose intoletant. Also, i have to avoid msg like a rash due to migraines. I would think you are dealing with a cc issue or another food sensitivity. If i consume too much lactose, ahh bless, i might as well forget doing anything for the rest of the day. I get bloated, abdominal pain, the runs, gas, thats even with four lactaid. My allergist told me just to pack it in. Giving up gluten was easier than giving up dairy. Also, i should avoid corn. I rarely eat it, but when i do i am bloated and constipated. Not allergic, mind, its just bothersome. I really hope you figure it out.

  5. Do look for Gluten-Free treats for your Gluten-Free friend. Keep one or two things stocked at your place for them.

Plan on dining somewhere that has a Gluten-Free menu if you eat out so your friend does not feel out of place.

Do not ask so many questions that the person is the center of attention, unless they feel comfortable.

If you can read Elizabeth Hasselbeck's book The Gluten-Free Diet she has an entire chapter about entertaining and how to make a person feel comfortable.

  6. Invictus, thank you for you frankness. I think you honesty has touched several of us who are dealing with depression right now. I have had a right time of it since the spring. I decided to tell my friends on facebook the other day what was wrong with me. Some ignored, most were supprtive, but one was telling me how selfish i was. This was even though i explained my Medical condition. Duh! Anyways

I have probably always had a problem with gluten. There was no major incudent for me just a worsening over the years. I was first diagnosed with lactose intolerance as a baby. Some silly military dr told mom that i would grow out of it. Not! I started having problems with lactose agian when i was about 12 which coincided with a severe depression. As a teen and college student, i had female problems which led to a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome. It was also during college that my fibro symptoms started. Over the years, i developed digestive problems, daily migraines, the depression came back with a vengence just to name a few. During this time i was being treated for infertility and chopped the depression up to hormones and the emtional roller coaster. Eventually i had my gallbladder removed, found out msg caused my migrines, and i had to avoid gluten and lactose at all costs. The fibromyalgia stopped me from continuing my career as a sign language interprter to the deaf. At the time, my hands and arms hurt so badly i could not write a grocery list much less sign for hours on end. I had to resign a job working in a kindergaryen class b/c i was grieving and depressed over the infetility. It was difficult for me to be around small children. It was not until years later that i was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. But even still, my body was not repaired itself. Perhaps it is b/c of so many years of going undiagnosed.

  7. I testing negative for the blood test and the biopsy. However, i did test positive for gluten intolerance on a saliva test ( i know many traditional drs do not accept it). The point is that a soon as i went Gluten-Free in 2009, my stomach problems got under control. Furthermore, there are great Gluten-Free pasta and bread brands out there. I prefer Schar. Toast the bread a little in your own toaster to avoid cross contamintion. The toasting heats the oils in the bread and gives it a little better flavor. I happen to love the multi grain bread as opposed to white bread.i have even shared iit with friends and family and they love it too.

  8. Hi, i am new here. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2001 when i first got married. We immediately started infertility treatments. I was not diagnosed with gluten intolerance until 2009. So my gluten exsposure probably cancelled out the treatments. Ever since 2009, we have not done anything to prevent pregnancy. The PCOS continues for its own obstinate reasons. I had hoped that my body would repair itself after i went Gluten-Free, but apperently not. I am still dealling with this plus depression and fibromyalgia. Btw, what is TTC? I understand the grief of long term infertility. I wish you all the best.

  9. My parents and brother all have either diabetes or RA, but they still get flu shots. Do not ask me why. It seems like the craziest thing to me. They all get sick! I refuse to get a flu shot and have not had the flu since elementary school, knock on wood really hard;). Ya'll can keep your flu shots for all i am concerned.

  10. Friday i was accidentally cross contaminted. I have been sick ever since. Yesterday was the first day i was back on real food. Over the weekend, i "enjoyed" soup, water, and gatorade. The shortest amount of time i have been sick was 24 hrs and the longest was a week. So good luck! I feel your pain :( literally!

  11. I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance in 2009 and immediately went Gluten-Free. Looking back, i most likely had this problem all my life, but the damage was already done. At 13 i was extremely depressed. I now realize that gluten affects teens in a particularlly harsh way. However, all the research i have done says that you should recover after going Gluten-Free. I have not. Does anyone else have this problem? Right now i am going through a rough patch and do not know if its another problem or if its something i will have to live with for the rest of my life.
