  1. Well I am not sure what state you live in, but in Georgia... To provide 504 services you do have to have an official diagnosis ( which would be with the endoscopy) from a GI doctor to receive anything. I know this because of my son and I actually work within the school. But really that doesn't even matter and isn't really what this post is about. Everything...
  2. This is your child. The drs wouldn't suggest it of they didn't feel there was a need. I don't mean to offend anyone so let me apologize now if I do, but you owe it to your son to have him checked. Trust the doctors-dont trust us- we may all have a wealth of experience and knowledge about this but no degree. There could be underlying issues as a result...
  3. I don't know if it is low carb but my T-1/celiac disease husband likes UDIS for bread and muffins and Vans waffles.
  4. My son did not have any symptoms either, but when the doctor did the biopsy he did notice damage. He estimated that my son's Celiac was triggered three years. One option could be to go gluten free for three weeks then go back on gluten three to four weeks before the endoscopy. This is what was suggested of me if we had been unable to get the date we needed...
  5. We got one of kroger's frozen turkey's this year and it came with a gluten free gravy made from rice flour. Very good and couldn't tell a difference!
  6. Good luck and let us know how it goes! Hopefully you can get some quick relief. My son's doctor ( ped. Gastro) said most pcps wants to beleice everyone has celiac or no one at all....guess you got the second!
  7. People are different. Many people lose but some do gain. I think it depends on how malnourished you were. If your food was passing without being absorbed that will make a difference. My husband has had in diagnosed celiac for much of his life. He could never get above 145lbs. He wasn't diagnosed with celiac until he almost died from it. He could not...
  8. Malt flavoring is a big no-no!
  9. My husband had same issues as you. Bathroom 50 times a day. Literally and throwing up. Quite a scary situation to live through. He could eat nothing. I was slowly watching him starve to death. He now weighs 185 lbs!!! . Never been that heavy ever. Dr said his intestines were one of the worst he has ever seen. Completely smooth. Good luck!!
  10. Have you told them how sick you have been. My husband got down to 110 lbs ( he was only 145 to start with) and really I don't think he would have made it another week. They could tell by speaking with him on the phone how week he had become and the doctor agreed to let him begin the diet. The damage to his intestine was still quite obvious. Maybe you...
  11. It can be very difficult for family members to understand the issues that can come about because of the gluten ingestion. Has he been to a drs appt with you or have you talked about the side effects and health implications with him? It will be an adjustment for your family as well so this will be something you will need to work at together. Start with...
  12. Yep ... Same here. My husband and son fasted that was it.
  13. My husband and son both have celiac. I think those odds are a bit off. It is genetic so you could walk around with it and never know until something triggers it.
  14. My husband eats the quaker instant grits everyday and has absolutely no problem with them. He became severely sick and was knocking on death's door right before he was diagnosed. He has since gained 70 lbs since. He also eats a lot of eggs as well. Have you ever tried eggs with him? Oh and Betty Crocker's potato buds are also a favorite of my son and...
  15. This may be a crazy question depending on where you live, but will he eat grits? They are yummy with butter and cheese, and you can even put in small bits of bacon.
  16. I don't know if liking bread products a lot makes you more susceptible to celiac. Your child just probably really likes bread. My nine year old did. We have found that he loves UDIS hot dog buns. So that gives him a bread option. He will eat the UDIS regular bread for cinnamon toast and stuff like that but he definitely likes the hot dog buns the best...
  17. I would just go to the appt and see what the doctor says. Abnormal simply means it is out of the range that someone who is not sensitive to gluten would have. The doctor will probably do more specific blood tests to see what is going on. Don't change anything that you do, and try not to worry too much. I know it is hard because it is your child. If it...
  18. Yes you must be Eating gluten for the blod test to be accurate. You need a full blood panel too. And if they tell you to do the endoscopy... You should do that as well.

    ARCHIVED Is This Diagnosis Accurate

People who have celiac disease who continue to eat gluten do have a chance of having long term effects of the gluten damaging their system. Non celiac people have a sensitivity to gluten but it does not damage the intestines as the gluten does with a celiac. Celiac disease is an autoimmune response to gluten. It sees it s an enemy and therefore has an adverse...
  20. When my husband started gluten free diet he found it was more difficult to control his blood sugar levels.
  21. It also may not have been something they were looking for at the time. It can't be diagnosed with the naked eye.
  22. I plan on going through his bag with him and sort what he can and can't have. That way he will learn what is safe as well!
  23. First of all, I am sure you will be fine if you do indeed have Celiac. Secondly, she is a bit misleading because it can cause other issues ( cancer, neurological problems, kidney issues, bone brittleness)which is why people should always have an endoscopy when Celiac comes into question. But with that being said, you will be okay.... You just have to make...
  24. This is exactly why anyone who suspects Celiac should be thoroughly checked my doctor with both a blood test and endoscopy if the test is negative. Definite answers are important!!! Doctors can help you get your medical needs straightened out with regular blood testing.
  25. Mine was symptomless as well. His dad has type 1 diabetes and celiac. Only got tested because of him.... Turns out he has had it for about three years they believe.
