ARCHIVED Breyer's Ice Cream
Em314 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Contacted Breyer's through their web site because for years now one of my previous favorite ice creams (Breyer's Blast Reese's Peanut Butter Cups) has not been listed as gluten-free despite there not being anything that ought to be gluten that I could see in the label. I wanted to know if I was missing something of it this was just a CYA issue on their part... -
ARCHIVED Nestle Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups
Em314 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Saw them in the store, wanted to try them but didn't dare. This is the oh-so-careful reply I got when I wrote in: Anyone try these yet? Reactions? -
ARCHIVED Snyder's Of Hanover Gluten Free Pretzels
Em314 replied to Brandiwine's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think those were the ones I just had recently. I was really excited by how well they mimicked "normal" preztels. (Sad I get excited over normal-tasting pretzels, huh?) -
ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh, I never updated on this- I had mild anemia (and protien deficiency), other mild deficiencies typical of celiac (I forget them all), and low Vit D. Taking a Vit D supplement has helped tremendously, and I'm making an effort to get more iron in my diet. Some issues with fatigue have recurred recently, but I sort of suspect at least some of that is that... -
ARCHIVED Egg Beaters/better 'n Eggs- Generics?
Em314 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know egg beaters and Better n Eggs are gluten-free. Anyone have any info or opinions on store-brand/generic versions of these? Is it even worth writing in to the companies that would know this, or am I being paranoid? It's been awhile since I've been on here, so i suspect the answer is "yes, write in," and I've just become complacent, but I could... -

ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
EKG came out fine. We'll have to see how the tests from the blood draw end up turning out. -

ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
And as an update to the fatigue issues- they *are* actually getting better. It's at least partially contingent on stress, sleep, and diet, but *I'm* getting more able to recognize things like "Oh hey, I feel kind of down and moody all of a sudden because it's 11pm and I need to start heading home and get some sleep." (Knowing what "hungry" actually feels... -
ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
OK, so, I will ask for (or at least discuss): -full thyroid workup (not just TSH, which was all it was before- will mention AI/Hastmoto's concern) -Vit b12 levels -CBC -Vit D level (I'm assuming) -MRT blood test for other sensitivities (does this test tell you *what* you're sensitive to, or just *if* you are?) (additional, from Newbie FAQ): -CMP,... -
ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
So, first physical coming up since celiac dx. I could use some advice on what blood tests to ask for. There's some good suggestions on this thread already. Any other things to look for (vitamin deficiencies? other commonly linked AI disorders?) Thanks guys! -

ARCHIVED When Did You Stop Getting New Symptoms?
Em314 replied to nvsmom's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm getting the same thing lately... but I also live in an area where the major pollen season is underway. As in, some days, things left outdoors undisturbed turn YELLOW overnight. I'm cautiously optimistic that that may be part of it, for me anyway, seeing as I already know for sure I have environmental allergies. -
Thanks guys- this is helpful!

So, it is actually taking it a bit far to worry about whether or not store-brand ground meat has somehow been cross-contaminated, I take it?

ARCHIVED Is Genetically Modified Wheat Common Now-Days Responsible For This Condition?
Em314 replied to UnhappyCoeliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I do think wheat has been selectively bred for protein content, as well as othe properties, over time: (decent-looking article: Open Original Shared Link ) I would imagine that could be flushing out more people who react to said protein (gluten) because even if we assumed wheat was at the same level in our diets (which I would assume isn't the case-... -
OK, time for what really is kind of a a gluten-free 101 question, but one that I haven't really faced yet. I'm considering trying to get some meat into my diet, as I think the extra iron, fat and protein would be good for me. What I'm wondering is what contamination may "hide" in that I would not think of. I've heard honey-baked ham and certain kinds...

ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a relatively regular bedtime, I am just often off by half an hour to an hour, and to my understanding sleep debt is somewhat cumulative. I should be more stringent about it, but it is difficult with how much I work and do. I'm not staying up till one in the morning then getting up at 5 or anything like that, though. I already have a regular workout... -
ARCHIVED Long Time Gluten Free Still Having Pain
Em314 replied to ArriettyPC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ArriettyPC- have you had your blood levels of gluten antibodies checked? That might be a relatively quick and non-invasive way to get an inkling of whether it's gluten hiding in your diet, or something else. 5 years of being gluten-free without relief from pain doesn't sound normal, expectable or something you should accept. -
ARCHIVED Half-Year Follow-Up: Peristsing Fatigue Attacks
Em314 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Had my follow-up with my GI doctor last week. My blood tests come back pretty much perfect- I test like a non-celiac. So, hooray for that- I can be pretty dang confident that I'm doing the gluten-free thing correctly. The downside of that is that the symptoms which have persisted probably can't be attributed to gluten any more. The stomach upset... -
ARCHIVED Stop & Shop Juice
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There logically shouldn't be, no. Stop and Shop makes some blended stuff, though, which also logically shouldn't, but I was less confident on. Apparently sometimes gluteny ingredients, including barley, can be used to sweeten some "juice drinks" (at least according to the about.com article I got when I googled the issue to be extra-cautious). -
ARCHIVED Stop & Shop Juice
Em314 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I wrote to Stop & Shop awhile back to double-check on their store-brand juices, because Hooray for being paranoid about gluten being places it has no sane reason to be! Anyway, replies are as follows, in case it helps anyone else: Reply #1: My name is Tyler Zook, the Technical Services Administrator for Clement Pappas & Co., the manufacturers... -

ARCHIVED When To Expect What
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Frustrated again. I had whole week straight pain-free in early feb. A little pain popped up, then over a month almost entirely pain-free. Thought I was in the clear. This entire week: Increasing pain, especially later in the day, worse as the week as progressed. And bloating. Also, headaches, which I've never been prone to. Pain is in my stomach... -
Open Original Shared Link Have gone there a few times- apparently, they have a gluten-free menu. I am still disinclined to trust any restaurants unless I know they have an extensively positive reputation that I can at least somewhat verify. Anyone have any experience with them, good or bad?
