ARCHIVED Been Looking For A Suitable Probiotic...what Do You Think Of This?
Em314 replied to 123glldd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was naturally introducing gluten to myself all the time, too. Just because it exists naturally doesn't mean it won't cause an imbalance or withdrawal. That said, I *thought* the 'seed' notion was how they were supposed to work. Seems safest to question whether or not that's what they *really* do *before* I put more stuff into my poor damaged innards... -
ARCHIVED Been Looking For A Suitable Probiotic...what Do You Think Of This?
Em314 replied to 123glldd's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I haven't researched probiotics much yet, but I'm more and more thinking I might benefit from taking one for awhile while I'm healing, and would also like to hear any recommendations. It seems like finding good research on them may be a bit of a challenge. :/ I am also curious if there's any info on whether probiotics are like most medications, where... -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
Em314 replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When are your docs planning to have a follow-up blood draw to check how the antibodies to gluten are doing? You may also just plain still have gluten in your diet. Are you still feeling some improvement?- 45 replies

Erhm... kind of a short timeframe, no? The ideal thing is for them to communicate with their doctors... if they have health insurance, access to doctors, and can afford to do so. if not... I do agree the fad diet aspect is obnoxious, but it's hard to blame people for wanting to feel better.

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Loathe Jeans?
Em314 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
One of the things I have been most looking forward to in the future (or, am hoping will happen, anyway) is being able to wear jeans and other non-stretchy, non-super-loose pants again, when I can somewhat count on not ending the day several pants sizes up from where I started. -
ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
Em314 replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Have you gotten an A1C test for diabetes? It sounds like you are being very thorough. I'm sorry you're not finding answers easily. Glad to hear you are feeling a little better the last couple of weeks- hopefully it progresses.- 45 replies

ARCHIVED 3 Months Into Gfd: Dehydrated And Constipated
Em314 replied to funkflex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am guessing you probably know this, and are just feeling frustrated by the gap between what you want and how things are at the moment, but not "everyone" has a great social life and does sports. That is, in fact, IMO, actually kind of rare, especially as you get older and take on more responsibilities. Things like TV and facebook make it seem like everyone...- 45 replies

I would contest this, as someone who had fatigue as a symptom despite being "active" (exercising regularly). For me, personally, at times I would be able to function OK, and at times I'd have to force myself through the day (more often the latter). And, at times, I would barely be able to function- to the point of struggling to stay awake, or even struggling...

ARCHIVED I Feel Way Better And Do Not Want To Get Sick Again For A Blood Test
Em314 replied to Smylinacha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Perhaps (if your doctor allows it) go ahead with blood tests anyway so you can have a baseline, especially if you have problems in the future? If you have only been gluten-free a couple of weeks, I believe assume results (of bloodwork as well as of endoscopy) could still be meaningful anyway. Everyone heals at a different rate, but neither intestinal damage... -
That's actually gotten *better* for me since cutting gluten out. What changes have you made, specifically? What are you eating, now? You may have accidentally cut out some nutrient you need.
-
I generally think food trends/fad diets are ridiculous and kind of irritating, but I'll admit, with this, I'm kind of glad that going gluten-free is "trendy" now... it means there's more products out there that I can eat!

Surgical mask or similar, is what comes to mind. It may be possible, but it sounds complicated, unpleasant and unfair. Sorry to hear life threw you this curveball, Maggie.

ARCHIVED In Pain... Again
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Already switched the kitty to gluten-free food. Will work on the rest. The veggies are not raw (they're steamed)- it's the fruit that's raw, but that isn't as variable and I'm not as worried about it. I'm thinking cutting back on the veggies, and eating a little more at work, and seeing how that goes. Next step may be looking into a probiotic other than... -
ARCHIVED In Pain... Again
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I so often see people on here saying the pain and bloating went away almost immediately for them that I'm starting to really worry that I'm screwing up and not knowing I'm doing it, though that seems next to impossible. I did get endoscopy results as having "moderate" villious atrophy (they didn't put a Marsh stage to it, but I'm guessing that means 3a or... -
ARCHIVED In Pain... Again
Em314 posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I don't even know wtf is doing it this time, or if it's gluten or not (I have yet to have a confirmed glutening, so I don't actually know how to tell that from other stomach upset). Pain and bloating, but no brain fog or severe exhaustion- though, I do feel more tired (but the weather was also crappy the last couple of days, and I got to bed later than usual... -
ARCHIVED Is Celiac Always Doing Damage Even Before The "trigger?"
Em314 replied to jessthirtytwo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
To my understanding, food allergies can genuinely come and go, basically out of nowhere. I'm not super-clear on whether you "always have celiac" but don't necessarily know until some kind of triggering event, or if you just have the predisposition for it and don't actually have the disease until it's triggered, either. I suspect more often than not... -
ARCHIVED Celiac With A Fever Part Of Autoimmune Response?
Em314 replied to GFreeMO's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have long been "used to" having low-grade fevers seemingly at random. I now strongly suspect they were related to the celiac. For all I know was something else, but that strikes me as occam's razor. -
ARCHIVED I Have Glutening Symptoms...yay?
Em314 replied to cavernio's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Aaaagghhh... Ginger Ale?
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Eliminating the ginger ale has eliminated the pain, btw. I doubt it was gluten; I think it was added the acidity not doing good things for my already-damaged insides, but may also have been the ginger. I still seem to tolerate diet cola just fine, but that may simply be the result of cutting back on soda overall by eliminating ginger ale (right now, I'm... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice For How To Cater To Celiacs
Em314 replied to Chef for celiacs's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I wonder if the woman with celiac is getting regular bloodwork and what it says. How have you been prepping food for her (and for the other residents) until now? How did your predecessor do it? -
ARCHIVED Anyone Not Have A Stronger Reaction To Gluten After Going gluten-free?
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Don't underestimate how much of the "lingering glutening" might be the flu. If you're in the US, flu is EVERYWHERE right now. -
ARCHIVED When To Expect What
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
One month later- energy overall better, head clearer, but stomach issues are... improving, but still there. I'm as sure as it's possible to be that it's not gluten... I think I'm in that fun phase where I find out what my stomach is sensitive to other than gluten. And I'm pretty sure some of it is that I did come back as having intenstinal damage, but I... -
ARCHIVED Aaaagghhh... Ginger Ale?
Em314 replied to Em314's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The odd thing is I don't seem to have the same reaction to diet cola, though perhaps I'm wrong about that. I know ginger itself messes with me (best I can figure is years of classical conditioning being given ginger ale when sick; in its more concentrated forms, ginger actually nauseates me). I'll eliminate the ginger ale as a variable first, anyway. -
ARCHIVED Aaaagghhh... Ginger Ale?
Em314 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am starting to strongly suspect some of this refractory pain is from ginger ale- if I have not somehow managed to find the one brand of diet ginger ale in america that contains gluten (Stop and Shop store brand, diet, if you were curious), then I'm still too sensitive to deal with the acidity or something (if I have too much acidic food at once, it *will... -
ARCHIVED Possible Toaster Solution
Em314 replied to maggiesimpson's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK, that does make sense. Not so much at home, though, if you're making toast a lot.
