1. So far, I've only accepted gluten-free food from someone with Celiac. It is difficult to turn down food someone has gone our of their way to make gluten-free. I was sick for so long, my social life vanished and so these incidences happen infrequently and give me a chance to reflect before the next one. My husband's family lets me fend for myself and they...
2. Ha ha I KNOW! Imagine all the servers who don't understand where it's hidden or about cross-contamination. Some people find success eating out overtime but for me, eating in restaurants ended up making my year one unforgettable. My husband is gluten-intolerant and not as sensitive and he can get away with eating what restaurants serve gluten-free although...
3. Huh huh huh I AGREE. The wake-up call for me was the realization that the brain is housed in the body. If the body is sick, is there not the chance the brain would be affected?? I cannot count how many people tried to figure out what was going on with my brain without sending me to a medical doctor first. Those issues subsided after eliminating gluten...
4. Hi Stephanie (maybe you should apply ) Thank you for your willingness to openly discuss this topic You're right, I was desperate for help when I had the testing done and I hope I don't have a much bigger issue! Before I found this site, I watched the videos of a famous person with Celiac being tested for food intolerances and assumed this was a...
5. Dear Stephanie, You sound like you have a lot of experience as a moderator on these boards and have probably seen a lot. Why do people coming to these boards put so much emphasis on getting a diagnosis for food intolerance? I can understand testing for Celiac. I know in my case that the testing I did revealed that many foods such as ginger, coconut...
6. Mine is an MD. She obtained her MD from UC San Diego, received the Mead Johnson Leadership Award and served as the Chief Resident for Obstetrics at Long Beach Memorial. If you go to FunctionalMedicine.org there is a listing of doctors who practice medicine under this model. Thanks though
7. I went to an MD who specializes in Functional Medicine. This was about eight months after going gluten-free. At that point, I had not experienced much improvement, however, if I ate a crumb of gluten, it was as if an invisible troll would jump out of the bushes and beat me for days. It was a pretty horrible experience to have continued illness and NOW...
8. EXACTLY! I'm going to commit this one to memory
9. I'm doing some gentle sun salutes before bed because some of you inspired me :)

10. 106 days since last glutening. Longest stretch ever!

11. Before I figured out gluten was the issue, I would go through what I called "episodes" where I would lose weight. I did have stomachaches and so would attribute them to that. Whenever I could, I'd eat very fattening food in order to put the weight back on. That wasn't so kind to my gallbladder but really felt I was in a bit of a race before the next "episode...
12. Thank you FE You said it all so well and you have no idea how much it helped to read this this morning.
13.
It sounds like you will be able to test it much later when you feel like rocking the boat. Trouble is, if you are like me, you never want to rock the boat!
Yeah, it didn't dawn on me that I would be rocking the boat. I toggle between Safety-Sparrow and Careless-Cali. What a wild life I'm...
14. Wow. He sounds like a bully and obviously ignorant of the situation. I've been glutened in a lot of restaurants and prepare my food at home. I keep hoping that, through time, I won't be so sensitive but that doesn't sound like the case for some of the veterans. Some people seem to be able to cut down the odds of restaurant glutenings after much experience...
15. I'm glad FE. Expectations can get in the way... I hear ya!
16. Well, last night, hubby and I thought we'd treat ourselves to a little gluten-free bread. He had problems after eating it and I'm having issues today. Not leaving the house kind of issues. It's not something that is on my diet and I really didn't think a little gluten-free bread would bother me much. Oh well. Back to eating no grains? Or maybe just...
17. I love how the ad before one of his videos markets a product called Poo-Pourri. It's the only YouTube ad I've watched the whole way through!
18. My doctor told me it's going to take time. A few of the out of whack issues will take a year which I'm halfway through. The gut part, I'm not sure but now after having been on this site for a while, it looks like it's just going to take time. Someone here wrote about how her doctor told her her bowels were like post-war Berlin. I was in bad shape when...
19. I know what that's like. It's the pits! I finally found a doctor who is helping me but adding more to the list just brings up some bad memories. It's white coat fear. It would be nice to be in the future: Step into a room, get scanned and receive a recommendation on how to proceed. That'll have to go in my science fiction novel. I'm not against all...
20. Good posture is also good for your health :) Glad to hear you have a metamorphosis ahappenin!
21. Hey Lady, That's good to hear that your anemia has resolved! Do you take iron supplements? My hemoglobin was 7.9 and Ferritin was 1 when it was first discovered in '09. I had 10 iron infusions and the Ferritin bounced up to 150 before plummeting back down. After three years, my hematologist said I was one of two patients he didn't know WTH was...
22. I had my teeth cleaned but did not know I had a problem with gluten and was still eating it at the time. One week later, I had an outbreak of shingles and then two months later, another outbreak of shingles. I attributed it to a little trauma combined with a lotta compromised immune system.
23. I guess what I'm saying is, I don't know what I don't know and have doctor anxiety because of my experiences the last ten years. Nurses told me to get tested for Celiac but I trusted the doctor knew what he was doing and never brought it up. The doctor I had did an endoscopy in '08 (+ lots of other tests) and only checked for H. Pylori. Now I could kick...
