  1. Happy birthday and may God bless you today!

  2. I haven't cheked in a while, but most rice cerals from the mainstream companies (Kelloggs, General Mills, etc) contain barley malt which contains gluten. Anything with "natural flavor" is suspect. I haven't found a decent trail mix that is gluten-free (when I say decent, I love chocolate in mine!!) You need to be careful with dried fruit and chocolate ...
  3. I could be way off base with this, but perhaps something else is occuring along with your being glutened. My body was aching for weeks - i finally went to my GP and had blood work done - I had both Lyme's disease and parvovirus. According to the blood work my doctor estimates that I've had Lyme's for 3 - 4 months! I just finished a month's worth of antibiotics...
  4. I was diagosed with celiac's three years ago at what seemed to be the onset of the disease. Once diagnosed, is it necessary to have testing repeated? Blood tests, biopsies, other? If the "treatment" is to eat gluten-free, what would the point of repeated teasting be? I am ignorant to "follow-up care" if such a thing is necessary. Please enlighten me...
  5. Wow - sorry to hear of your discomfort. I can't believe the things you cannot have! You said nothing acidic and no juice - would this include all fruits as well? Blueberries and raisins always seem to work wonders on my kids (grapes also) but are you even allowed these items? Wishing you well.
  6. Strange....could you try this e-mail, please? Thanks! michelek@hotmail.com

ARCHIVED Doctor Admitted He Was Wrong

    WOW!!!
  10. Carrie: Please keep in mind that teachers are advocates for children - they are not in education to make children and their parents miserable. You are absolutely correct in realizing that the teacher does not know your child as well as you do (a couple of weeks vs. 5 years!) but the teacher is not "out to get you." Also keep in mind that the teacher is...
  11. I have no symptoms whatsoever. Don't know if I am being glutened (by accident) or not.
  12. Aren't charlie horses caused by some type of vitamin/mineral deficiency? Potassium maybe? I can't remember - I just remember reading about it in pregnancy books. Maybe there's a decrease in vitamin/mineral during menstruation. Just a guess! Isn't there a pill on the market (Yasmin drsp I think) that contains potassium? Maybe that's why I'm thinking...
  13. Bette: I can totally relate to your flour problem. My husband bought me a bread machine and then we went flour shopping. I bought so much flour it is scarey. In the process, though, this is what I have learned: Brown rice and brown rice bran should be refridgerated/placed in freezer. I also placed my bean flours, hazlenut and almond flours in the...
  14. For your hands have you tried vaseline or Aquaphor? I've used Aquaphor on my baby for every dry skin/rash problem imaginable and it clears it right up. I have hypothyroidism and suffer from dry skin from that, but maybe celiac disease is also contributing to it. If you put the Aqauphor on your hands after you shower and then cover with thin white cotton...
  15. Kaiti: Could you please send me the Neutragena list as well? Thanks! michelek@hotmail.com
  16. Thanks so much for the information!
  17. I'm on vacation right now and my husband and I went out to dinner tonight without the kids! I spoke to my server who spoke to the chef and then told me his suggestions (plain steak, baked potato and house salad with oil and vinegar). It was an impromptu outing and may have had a more "gourmet" meal had I called ahead. If you could call ahead and speak...
  18. I like the idea of gluten lite - I don't think I want to make them entirely gluten-free, but if I find alternatives that they like, I'll stick with them. thanks for the suggestion!
  19. Well, my biopsy indicated Marsh 1 lesion (I don't really know what this means) and my bloodwork showed a postivie IgA but a negative IgG and a weak positive tTG. The doctor who did this testing said these results were inconclusive and wants to re-test me in 6 weeks. I wasn't thrilled with his advice so I went to another doctor (one who was recommened on...
  20. Hello All: I know this board is "Parents of kids with celiac disease," but I need to ask about being a celiac disease parent with a gluten-free family. I've just been loosely diagnosed with celiac disease and I need some tips in dealing with my glutened family. My children are young (1 yo, 3 yo & 5 yo) and while my dd can understand, the younger two...
  21. About how long does it take for kinnikinnick to ship? I placed my first order last Tuesday and I cannot wait to try their donuts, buns and pizza crust!
  22. From what I understand, tapioca flour and tapioca starch are the same thing, however, potato starch and potato flour are very different. Someone please verify!
  23. Could you have an anal fissure? Has your doctor performed a rectal exam? Do you have any bleeding? Anal fissures cause very painful spasms.
  24. Hi celiac3270: I think I asked for "the list" - sorry for not being clear! Could you please e-mail me both lists? Thank you so much! michelek@hotmail.com
  25. You can always count on BK throwing in an onion ring or two with your order of fries! Befoer I was diagnosed I thought of this as a bonus! Now I do not even consider eating there!
