ARCHIVED Cat Allergies....a Question.
AlwaysLearning replied to mommy2krj's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is it the cat or the kitty litter? They do sell wheat-based kitty litters that would cause wheat dust in the air and the cat would track it throughout its home. If dust were the main exposure method, it would make sense if the symptoms were more sinus/throat related. And if gluten free is new for your son, that could explain why an exposure to wheat... -
Something someone else posted about made me reconsider a thought that went through my mind not long after first going gluten free. That is, if we are skipping most or all breads from out diets, are we apt to throw our digestive systems out of whack by not having enough yeast intake? The internet is full of stories about people having yeast overgrowths...

ARCHIVED New Here - Questions About Symptoms
AlwaysLearning replied to hbunting86's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'd go to the doctor if you've had those symptoms for any more than 2-3 days. There is something called c. difficile (as well as other bacteria and parasites) that has symptoms like you describe. It is caused by the bacteria in your digestive system getting thrown out of balance, allowing the bad ones to grow out of control, killing off the good. Most... -

ARCHIVED How Much Would You Pay To Eat Your Favourite Gluten-Containing Treat?
AlwaysLearning replied to kellynolan82's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
English Muffin: $20 Hot Pretzel: $20 The rest, I feel as if I've found satisfactory alternatives for, though I haven't tried to travel since going gluten free, so I may yet discover some more. Only $20 each because I'm so much happier and healthier with my gluten free life that it is hard to feel as if I'm missing out on too much. But if anyone had... -

ARCHIVED Does Anybody Have This
AlwaysLearning replied to little d's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Ingrown hairs of all sorts all over my calves. Definitely worse when I had an influx of gluten into my diet. Definitely better after going gluten free. It was actually one of the symptoms that helped me figure out that my body was reacting to something I was eating. And my sister confirmed it when she started having similar problems after going gluten free... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal: How Do You Function?
AlwaysLearning replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suppose I don't get how so many people can understand that extracts from poppy plants can affect pain and pleasure sensors in our brains, but refuse to believe that extracts from other plants could affect these same sensors. I can't help but wonder if they don't realize that the gluten peptide studies aren't stemming from suppositions on the internet... -

ARCHIVED How To Deal When Moody?
AlwaysLearning replied to Herreralovv's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If I had an answer, I'd share it. The "irritability" is normally my first symptom after even the smallest contamination. But I have to laugh when I see people call it irritability. For me it is more of a completely uncontrollable rage. Anything and everything can and will set me off. And I often don't even realize that it is happening until after I've... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Withdrawal: How Do You Function?
AlwaysLearning replied to laura1959's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Best advice I can give you is to get tested for vitamin deficiencies if you haven't already. Going gluten free wiped out many of my odd symptoms and the allergic reactions, but the problems from chronic malabsorption still persist and seem to continue to get worse because I didn't take them all that seriously at first. I made some mistakes early on in my... -

ARCHIVED Glutened In Restaurant
AlwaysLearning replied to KikiB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I hope the point where you tell that story and laugh about it isn't too far in the future. It is going to be a good one when you do get there. Yeah, if an actual ingredient makes its way into my food, I'll start to have digestive reactions within minutes though I haven't been hit so hard as you ... yet. But minor contaminations normally take a little longer... -

ARCHIVED Does It Ever Go Away?
AlwaysLearning replied to Munzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had hoped my "IBS" would go away when I went gluten free but it didn't. My abdominal pain would come and go and feel as if I had bad gas and at times would have really bad cramping. It was so bad recently that I was really close to going to the ER. Finally, after years of searching for answers, I think it may not be IBS at all, but simply a B12 deficiency... -

ARCHIVED If I Have A Very Rich Diet Can't I Just Eat The Same Thing Everyday?
AlwaysLearning replied to Renegade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Though you seem to have a lot of variety for one day, there are probably plenty of nutrients that are missing from those foods. Though you'd survive, you wouldn't thrive. And most fruits and vegetables excel on just one or two levels. If you are limiting your food types and having cravings, I'd really recommend getting your vitamin levels checked at your... -
What about fruit smoothies to add calories? They'd be high in sugars, but the fiber should help balance out any sugar spikes during digestion and adding some protein powder could help even it out more ... if you can find one that doesn't aggravate allergies as well. And the blending process should help make them a little easier to digest, no? Plus, you...

ARCHIVED Overeating On Gluten-Free Foods
AlwaysLearning replied to FloB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm with you on the initial splurge - using the premade gluten-free foods to help avoid feeling deprived. But I have returned to eating the way I did before, just gluten free. I'd say it took about four months to settle into a normal routine. And I didn't gain any weight during that time despite some binging at first. For me, one of the biggest challenges... -

ARCHIVED Hearing Loss And Celiac
AlwaysLearning replied to Marie1976's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I definitely noticed an improvement in my hearing after going gluten free. I would even say that ear aches were one of my earliest noticeable symptoms back in my early 20s. Repeated visits to various ear, nose, and throat specialists resulted in them telling me that there was nothing wrong with me and that I simply had wax build up in my ears (though clearing... -

ARCHIVED Sleep Disorder And Starches
AlwaysLearning replied to btz33's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd love to know more about how reactive hyperglycemia is related to gluten problems. Mine has actually gotten much worse since going gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Celiac Vaccine? Not For Me
AlwaysLearning replied to Opa3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm loving all of these posts that are anti-pharma and see right through a smoke screen. I LOVE smart people. After years of trying to figure out what was wrong with my digestive system, I was actually excited that the solution didn't involve pharmaceuticals. I'm not anti vaccine, but I agree wholeheartedly with the previous comment about not wanting to... -

ARCHIVED Super Easy Meal Ideas Anyone?
AlwaysLearning replied to KnightRobby's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Even before going gluten free, I had found that steaming up some meat and veggies then serving them over rice with some sort of sauce was pretty easy, not all that time consuming, good for leftovers ... and also avoided the problems toxins developing in food due to high-heat cooking. Ingredients: • Your choice of meat. My favs include boneless chicken o... -

ARCHIVED Easy Gluten-Free Snack Ideas
AlwaysLearning posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm only a couple months into this whole gluten free thing, and find myself in a phase where I'm skipping eating because it is such a pain to cook everything from scratch. And I suspect that the prepared foods labeled gluten-free that I've tried are a source of accidental glutening, those parts per million still allowed enough to get my body back onto the... -

ARCHIVED Misdiagnosed And Had Celiac All Along? Hi!
AlwaysLearning replied to Sasami888's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow, from the title of the post, I thought I could relate, but after reading your story, I'm just really grateful to have not have had it so bad. It sounds as if you've been to hell and back again. However I'm sure most can relate to many of the same problems when it comes to the medical industry. I was going to doctors on a fairly regular basis for...- 5 replies

AlwaysLearning replied to carrieanna76's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Totally had insomnia when gluten was heavy in my diet. Totally went away right away when going gluten free. -

ARCHIVED Night Terrors, Sleep Disorders And Celiac
AlwaysLearning replied to jeremy'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Whoa, seven years late seeing this thread! If you're looking for a simple cause, I read that sleep walking/talking/night terrors can be triggered by acid reflux. So I suppose it could make sense that a person suffering from a digestive problem would be more likely to have these night-time problems. You could try asking a child if they have any of the... -

ARCHIVED I Forgot, Then I Remembered And Now I Really Remember!
AlwaysLearning replied to AnnJay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm wondering about the egg. I just went gluten free recently and think that the eggs I had in the house (though organic and free range but not gluten free) may have been causing problems for me before going gluten-free and been my first case of glutening on day two of gluten-free. I've read opposing opinions about whether or not chickens that are fed... -
I've had hyperthyroidism for a couple decades now but just went gluten-free too recently to know about the "after" symptoms. Night sweats have come and gone for me, but never too bad. But I was under the impression that problems regulating body temperature overall is a pretty standard symptom of thyroid disease of any sort. And my guess would be that it...
