Whitney - you might want to consider doing an herbal parasite cleanse - I was reading that certain parasites can cause constipation!
I would strongly suggest, that if you or anyone feel that parasites are an issue, that you seek a medical professional to address the issue. We are not doctors and what might be a solution for one, may cause danger to others.
Please seek a professional. Thank you.

Hello all...
Just got an email from my celiac group who received an email from general mills stating that Betty Crocker will now
have gluten-free vanilla and chocolate cake mixes, also brownies and chocoate chip cookie mixes!! It will be available as of
June 1, 2009. I was so excited, I just wanted to share. Janet
Thanks for posting this. Very excited!!!

Purdue Rotisserie Chicken is also gluten free. They have lots of products listed on their website.
-
Any imported product into the US must comply with the FDA Labeling Laws. I'm not certain what you get when traveling. But Europe and other countries are far more advanced regarding Celiac or Coeliac awareness than the US>

I ate a three pack all in one day and had no problem except being "full" from being a gluttun.
I would eat them, if I could get past the vision that they look like a raw egg. Yuck!

My personal thoughts would be that a cleans, on an already compromised digestive system, might not be a good idea.

You mentioned that you recently found out you have a gluten intolerance. How's that going?
I would go gentle on yourself until you can heal.

Good for you Jenny!!! You have lots of people to "represent".
-
BUT, should you have Celiac Disease, which an autoimmune response to gluten, you are creating damage to your small intestines, by continuing to consume gluten. In this case, it's not the amount of gluten that you consume, rather it's the autoimmune response TO THE GLUTEN which does the damage.
Many people feel that a gluten intolerance or sensitivity is a precursor to Celiac. I have seen no studies which implies this, but it does seem reasonable.
Gluten does not create a anaphylactic response, but it will slowly reak havoc on your body in the forms of diabetes, intestinal lymphoma, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, osteo and rheumatoid arthritis and a few more unfortunate issues -if indeed you have Celiac Disease.
You may want to consider testing. And Welcome

Not much LOL, (Farming that is) Mike
Didn't think so.
-
Farm much Mike?
If this is the case, you must not eat any harvested food.
-
I wouldn't count on it with the beans, Keila, sorry.
I'm sorry, but I have to ask... do you consider BEANS to be unsafe for Celiacs to consume?
(Patti, my most sincere apology)

I really want to respond to your post, however, it looks like I am now being censored (my post I think was deleted, I posted it twice, the first time, I thought I made a posting mistake, posted it again and it is gone). In my opinion, (if this is the case) we are doing a great disservice to all posters, in particular "the newbies" if a poster can not discuss this disease in full detail and not withhold what they are finding without being censored, we as a community are doomed. All the best, Mike

She does call it an allergy and say it can be diagnosed with a blood test, which could be slightly misleading, but anyone who's heard about it for the first time can go and get the info they need.
I saw it this morning and took note of the use of the word "allergy", but happy to see it mentioned. I also went to the store today and noticed a freezer full of new gluten free products....what's happening in the world???

Regarding the Maltose - It's probably so refined that it's considered safe for Celiacs regardless of the source. I suggest other confirmation though.

Great! Sounds good for an after wedding brunch with fresh fruit. You could add bacon or sausage...yummmm

The truth is, there were so few options that we are considering moving back to Eastern NC and starting up a bakery with good gluten-free options!
Good luck.
North Eastern NC PLEASE!

I just received the test back from my doctors that was done April of last year. They sent blood to the Mayo Clinic lab. The test that was ordered says Endomysial Abs, S (IgA). It says "negative" and that is the only words listed on the report. No levels as in numbers...just the words "negative".
The report states:
Test requested: Endomysial Abs, S (IgA)
Hi/Lo: Negative
Ref Range: Negative
Perform Site: MCR
My doc who is a CNP - just mailed it to me and said " your test for Celiac disease was negative". I may look into the other tests you have mentioned above. Thank-you.
Here is additional information you might find important:

The biopsy was positive. I want to ask the doc more about this. . .was it positive for inflammation only? Was it positive for damaged villi? What actually did the biopsy show?
I would request a copy of your pathology report from your biopsy/endoscopy exam. Post that information here, and some can help interpret your results.
-
So my question is:
What specific tests should be done to rule out celiac? I have seen "Enterolab" on this board, and "IG something", and the biopsy via scope as being the "gold standard" for detection.
Thanks!!!
This is the panel that you should begin with:
Anti-gliadin antibodies (AGA) both IgA and IgG
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA
Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA
Total IgA level.
(you should remain on a full gluten diet for many weeks to aid in it's accuracy)
Unfortunately, testing is not as accuracy as we would like at this time. The Serologic Blood panel can rule Celiac in, but it cannot rule it out, as with the endoscopy/biopsy.

Kristyn,
I am not from Rocky Mount, but I'm not far. Do you have a Food Lion, if so they have a health food section which carries Pamela's Cake Mixes. Make them as you would a regular cake and I would dare anyone to tell the difference. Pillsbury Frosting often has gluten free choices, you just have to read the label. Wal Mart has many options for gluten free. It's out there, ya just have to find 'em.
The best support you will find in your area is right here on C.com.

Hi Oscar! All though surprised, it's good to see you here!!!
You must have some time off from your usual activities. Have fun with the Sillies!!!
Congratulations Patti on your Queenship!

You might find this link informative. It's more current than the 2004 post you mentioned.
Here is some information on testing: (the serologic blood work is faily inexpensive)

Welcome Jenn. I'm sorry but I don't have any experience with Enterolabs personally.
Good luck!

I would begin a food diary. Keep track of everything and it might render some culprits. Dairy can also mimic the gluten experience. Try to give it up for a while and see if you improve.
