  1. I am glad to know you are continuing to investigate. :) I think it would be great if you could get your Mom on side with your diet, if she has health issues she may see a real improvement.

    As for the tongue, no white is not healthy and normal, white indicates candida as I understand it. A healthy person's tongue is pink and clean looking, no white stuff.

    Lots of us have felt crazy and alone and beyond sad too, I remember at nineteen having a passport photo taken and the photographer asked me to smile, I couldn't smile, I couldn't think of one thing I had to smile about. I don't think I smiled at all that year.

    I've also felt a kind of crazy rage where I wanted to crawl out of my body, the sensation was like something was scraping the inside of my skin and it made me feel insane. That's all gone now, I haven't had that stuff since I stopped consuming any MSG.

    I am on the SCD and last night I had pizza for supper, a super easy crust:

    1 1/3 cup almond flour

    1/3 cup dry curd cottage cheese

    1/2 tsp salt

    1/2 tsp dried rosemary (not the powder)

    1/2 tsp dried oregano

    1/2 tsp dried thyme

    1 Tablespoon olive oil

    1 large egg

    Put all ingredients in a food processor, combine well, divide into two and put on baking trays with parchment paper on them, using a piece of plastic wrap pat down the batter so that you have two round flat circles about 8 - 9 inches across. I leave the edge a little higher so that it helps to hold the toppings on.

    Toppings, what do you like? Last night I fried some onions for long time and put them, cheese. tomatoes and olives on top, and then baked it at 325 degrees F for 25 minutes.

    As so many other have stressed, diet, diet, diet makes an enormous difference and until you commit to doing just one for some period of time you won't be able to see if it is making a difference.

    As to what others are doing or thinking you will find you have to decide for yourself what is true for you and what is not, I see many people who are unwilling to rethink their diets though they are ill, they seem to be completely convinced that they are some kind of miracle machines who can put anything they are told is fuel into them and they will just keep going forever and that whatever is not working can be fixed with some kind of pill.

    Did you say you were on Ritalin at one point? As I understand it that drug alone may cause problems.

  2. Hello Heat and Welcome! You have found a wonderful place.

    Everyone here can relate to your frustration because we have been there. I have an additional respect for mothers of children with Celiac.

    Some rice, apple sauce or tea may help her tummy rest. Even though gluten free, any foods may still be bothering her until some healing can take place. Gentle foods will help.

    Yes, your symptoms correlate with Celiac. With over 200 symptoms, not all of us are the same.

    An endoscopy exam and biopsy is a good diagnostic tool which can rule Celiac in, but it can't rule it out. The Celiac Blood Panel can also rule Celiac in, but it is not as reliable as we would like at this time. Either one of these test can diagnose Celiac Disease with positive results. A positive dietary response is also diagnostic.

    BTW- Quaker Rice Cakes have been known to make some people ill. Lumberg Rice Cakes are manufactured at a dedicated facility.

    Symptoms

    Signs and symptoms of wheat allergy can include:

  6. I'm still pretty new to all this, only 3 weeks. My husband has been on the hunt with me checking all the ingredients in what we buy, he is not gluten-free. He bought a roll of bright pink duct tape that I use to label my peanut butter, jams, and anything else that is strictly gluten-free. My fridge has bright pink tape on tons of stuff and looks kind of cute!

    I did the same similar thing. I put green round stickers on items that I eat or have checked on their gluten free status.

    It also reminds my other family members that I share the mayo or whatever, and they don't double dip.

  7. Most, if not all, whiskeys are not gluten free. For the most part they are made from rye or barley.

    ALL distilled alcohol is considered safe for people with Celiac to consume. The distillation process is said to remove the offending gluten from the alcohol.

    Now, with that said, we do have a few very sensitive to trace amounts of gluten. Here is a listing found on this site:

    Dermatitis herpetiformis is frequently associated with gluten (a protein found in cereals) sensitivity in the small bowel. This means that instead of being highly convoluted, the lining of the intestines is smooth and flattened.     This is the specific Serologic Blood Panel to test for Celiac:

    Antigliadin antibodies (AGA) both IrA and IgG

    Antiendomysial antibodies (EMA) - IgA

    Anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies (tTG) - IgA

    Total IgA level.

    There is no testing for Celiac that is considered 100% reliable, so there may be some false negatives. DH is not specific to gluten issues, but can closely associated Celiac Disease. (but that can be another discussion here :huh: )

    I assume that "lab" you are referring to is Enterolabs. Many people have used their services and it remains a hotly discussed topic here, as you may have already found.

    Enterolabs has a stool test, which is not recognized by any National Celiac Associations as a diagnostic tool. Enterolabs can test for sensitivities to certain foods, but they do not diagnose for Celiac Disease. Many people have sought their services after years of frustration with the main stream medical community.

    If you have seen progress in healing on the gluten free diet, I would encourage you to continue. The gluten free diet can be very complex in the beginning. This site can help guide you though the difficulties.
