I had an endosopy two months ago. I can attest that the worst part of it is the anxiety before. My father used to say "expectation is always greater than the realization". In this case it is true.
The nurses are always very nice and calming. They even put on music to calm the patients. They will put on a blood pressure monitor on you through the proceedure. Once you get that shot in the arm..."say goodnight". I guess it wasn't more than a half hour and I was awake. My husband was in the room and talking to the DR. Apparently, I asked him several questions, but can't remember. Make sure that you take someone with you who will ask question so that they can convey them to you when your head is clear.
Came home and slept for the rest of the day, until dinner. I did have several days with a bad sore throat. Nothing that wasn't managable.
I ended, for the next three days, asking my husband about what was said, what I said and what the DR. said. He thought it was funny.
It truely is no big deal and getting answers is always a great relief. Good luck and relax. Let us know how you are doing.

Wishing I was with you... take some logs for me on the trails. (makes me feel young again...I am young, just older that you.)

That is a wonderful idea to link into the hospital. My "new Doc" is very active with the hospital and he could get me started.
I signed a release form today at his office to get the Gastro. Dr. records (that biopsy confirmed celiac disease) not quite sure that I have him on board yet. I am glad that he is questioning.
I would love to be there with you to watch the trees turn. Enjoy them for me.

Hey Guys:
I have been here alot, but now it's about my daughter. Annie is 21, living at home and attending college and getting ready to be married June 10.
I guess, like mother, like daughter.....She wakes up every morning with a terrible headache. She does not get three meals a day as she is 21 and not going to classes on that day wakes up to eat lunch. (as many of you know).
She frequently, but not consistantly complains of sharp pains in her "belly" that will double her over with pain.
She feels, often, that she needs to go to the bathroom and cant. The feeling is there, but nothing happens.
And up-to-date today, for breakfast I cooked her a sausage biscuit (bisquick, bake in the oven) with locally ground sausage with no fillers. She ate, went upstairs to the bathroom, successfully, got in the shower and the stabbing pains started and continued through her classes and back to home.
I don't have her constipation issues, quite the opposite. I also have never had the headaches. Her PD said it is IBS (imagine that). She has an appointment with an internist - mine, and he may recommed blood work or endosopy.
She went to the dentist, as I was trying to rule things out and there is no wisdom teeth issue, as would be age appropriate
What do you all think? I would appreciate any imput.

Soooo good, how did you like it?
If you don't get back to the site. Bette Hagmans Spinach Quiche. Mix it up and put it in the oven when the babes are ready for bed. Add a little red wine.....I will end with that.

Kaitie - Karen:
The quiche was WONDERFUL tonight, I hope you both enjoyed it.
Actually, it was from Bette Hagman's cook book. I just traded the swiss cheese for Harvati Cheese, better I feel.
How would it work out for a site: " If you were invited out for a gluten free dinner, pot-luck dinner, what would you bring?"
That could be a new post, or am I taking time away from those that need immediate help?
What do you think?

At another time, I am planning a wedding June 10 for my daughter, need help with things I can eat. (maybe just stick to the Champaign???)

Stephanie:
As said before, you will have a sore throat for several days and some gas from the back side ( I didn't have that).
Let us know how you did. This is a small family, getting big, with losts of people in your shoes. We are all with you.

Trust me, you will not remember. Please be sure that you take an active family member with you. You will remember the pat on the arm and the "it will be ok" from the GI dr. and that's about it.
Who ever takes you, please tell them to take notes (husband, family member, or good friend). They will tell you about what they found during the proceedure, but....YOU WILL HAVE NOW RECALL, due to the demeral or whatever sedation they give you.
I asked my husband questions about it for about three weeks. You talk, you walk, you speak but the comprehension is not there. He jokes one me, knowing that I have had conversations with people that I just don't remember.
If you go under with demeral or something, please ask your significant other to take detailed notes as you will want to know them after you get out of your "fog".
Take care and best of luck. Lisa B.
Sorry that you are in pain, but working toward the reason, keep that in mind.

Stephanie:
I had one exam, then the other two weeks later.
I don't understand what the motility issue is?
I have had several friends (not celiac disease issues) have the double exam at the same time and they seem to feel OK with it.
If there is blood in your stools, it is very important to have the Colonoscopy, as I am sure you know. Hermoroids can be caused by Celiac, as many can attest to, due to acid and constant diagr. which may rupture causeing blood in the stool, or wiping. But rule out other causes.
Relax, stress can amplify your symptoms. I wish you well on your tests and I will be thinking of you on Thursday.

Sounds like this one is for your Kaitie.

Until others that know more about your testing will kick in, I will tell you that ANY Cheating is damaging.
If your truly have celiac disease, you must be totally gluten, wheat free...forever. I know that is probably not the answer that you want to here, but it is the "stripes on the tiger".
Try to go gluten-free totally for one month and see if you see any (even the slightest) change.
Immodium only soothes a problem. Find out what the problems is.
I wish you luck in your quest for answers. Lisa B.

I'm on the northeast coast. Edenton, NC. I love the Fresh Market in Hendersonville. We used to live in Landrum, SC for two years when my husband was flying out of Charlotte.
My girls (12 years ago) used to ride horses in Tryon. It is a beautiful place.
I am the one with Celiac and I can sympothize with parents who have children with celiac disease. You know, when it is you, you can handle it. As a parent of a celiac disease child and you are the cook/server, it must be a heavy burden.
I am thinking about getting a support group here. I know of three other people in our small town and I bet there are alot more. Maybe you could give me some pointers on a beginning.
Good to talk to another TarHeel.

Cool Kaitie:
I'll save you a slice of quiche tonight. Thanks
-
Have a question for anyone who is more familiar with certain ingrediences than me.
I am making a quiche tonight for dinner. I have alot of Kraft "Natural Finely shredded chesse" in the fridge.
I know that Kraft will not hide but,......what is Cellulose Powder and Calsium Sulfate (added to prevent caking, and Natamycin)
Is this safe to use or should I do the shredding myself from block cheese?
Thanks for any help

Hey you guys:
I need some help getting over the personal pitty- party I am having with my self.
I am going to the Dr. Friday and in great need for energy boosters. Any one have suggestions for that. I am still not taking in nuitrients the "normal" way.
What can I talk to my Dr. about that.
(Please read my previous posts on this forum and it will give you a little background)
Welcome imput. Thanks for your time.

Don't know anything about that.

Thanks for all your response. I am not sure that it makes me feel any better. It is a little bit, ok, alot depressing.
I am fortunate not to have to work. I do the basics around the house...wash clothes, cook, clean and do some limited yard work and that is about it. I do a little bit at a time, sit down and then do some more. I know that my husband (retired and at home) really doesn't quite know what to do with me. He doesn't say anything. But I just feel like I am lazy.
I had the first B-12 shot a couple weeks ago and saw dramatic improvement in my energy level, next week not nearly that.
I have been eating well and cooking tastey meals gluten-free that we all eat. I am just plain tired of being tired and a little down about that. The diet is easy for me (and shampoos, soap, meds, blah, blah) it is the darn (not my choice of words )fatigue.
After reading all your posts, I guess time will do the healing and there isn't much more that I can do about it.
Thank you all for your imput...I'll keep plugging away.

I too had a high white blood count. I think it was because of the inflamation in the small intestines due to fighting off the glutens...this was before I was diog.

Thanks for the response, now I can take it off my "not sure list".

I am kinda the strange one here. I have NEVER likes pasta, beer nor bread so going gluten free for me is not so bad (other than the weird ingred. you have to read at the grocery store) I guess my body was telling me something all along.
I do crave a McD's Double Cheeseburger and Fried Chicken (which I have not tried with gluten-free Flour yet).
Necco's carry me through the "pitty parties".

Karen:
Belladonna is generic for Donnatol. Prescribed for IBS, it is a small dose "dope" as we used to call it. It is a mussl.. relaxer and an antacid combined. -- designed to relax the muscles and help with the acid. A tiny bit of barbituate.
I do sleep better and the dose in VERY small. Probable not good for me with celiac disease. But would like to know if it is glutten free. I will talk to my down town pharm. and ask qustions about manufacturer.
How are you doing now? Things looking better?

Stephanie:
Have your mom there or your husband. You will need someone to drive you home anyways. They may not be able to be in the room as the proceedure is being done.
My gastro dr. was able to tell my husband "what he saw". My husband suffers from CRS (Can't Remember S...) so.........tell whom ever brings you to have some paper and a pen/pencil. Have some pre-questions about the post-proceedure (make sense?) You should have some information from the Dr. that day, but results of any biopsy will be sent off and you will be notified later. Even if you have a conversation with your Dr. after, you will not remember. So therefore, you need someone to write things down for you.
I (my husband) was told that I have a large (sliding?) hernia, gastritis and scalloping in small intestines, consistant with Celiac. The biopsy confirmed Celiac.
He told my husband any myself. He barely remembered, and I of course, did not.
As difficult as dealing with celiac disease is, it a far better alternative to many other things that effect the digestive tracks. You can control Celiac/Sprue. It does not control you.
Take care, it will be ok? Lisa B.
