  3. It's important to note, that having the genes associated with Celiac Disease, only indicate a pre disposition, as Gemini noted. I believe only 30% of people who carry these associated genes will develop Celiac.
  4. Raised in NOVA and it IS a state unto itself! Nothing Virginia about it.

    ARCHIVED New Problem

Patti, I have noticed also that antacids don't seem to help much. Tums don't help much but I was told it's good calcium. Regarding the hernia..when resting or beginning sleep, turning to the left or flat side helps. Right side at rest finds the discomfort.

    ARCHIVED New Problem

I have a hiatal hernia and I experience similar symptoms, sporadically. Hope you are not taking Tums Smoothies, they are not gluten free (as my last check). Regular Tums are gluten-free to my current knowledge. You could also have developed an ulcer, or an inflamed esophagus. Maybe time to see a doctor. Acid can do some damage too.

  17. I have not had experience with obtaining insurance. But, considering that Celiac Disease, in itself, does not require any medical intervention, *I* would not even mention it. The "cure" for Celiac Disease is a gluten free diet, which is totally self controlled/regulated. I could see where insurance companies could be cautious.

  21. Thirty percent of the general population carry the genes "associated" with Celiac Disease. Most will never develop the disease.Close to 90%, of those those who have Celiac go undiagnosed. I believe that 20% of those who carry the gene, will develop Celiac at some period if time. And, it takes an average of 11 years to achieve a diagnosis. I expect...
  22. Can you post the results with the lab ranges. That will help. I was not familiar with the DGP testing, but I found this easily. https://www.celiac.com/articles/22043/1/Is-DGP-Serological-Test-the-Wave-of-the-Future-for-Celiac-Disease-Testing/Page1.html "The results of these tests clearly demonstrate that IgA DGP does not offer any advantages to the...
