  1. Hi again tiredofdoctors - you and I know that you know better than pizza! Every grain of gluten is hurting you. Don't do it. It's hard. I know. I am there too. I just don't want to get worse or at least worse any faster than I have to. For that I will pay a price. Not happily but I will pay it. If the person closest to you is supportive and kind,...
  2. Just a vote for Pamela's goodies. Everything I have tried so far has been really good - especially Pecan Sandies. They come plain or with chocolate chips. Claire
  3. I think awareness is half the battle here. Many celiac disease people are not aware of this possible complication and their doctors probably would miss it too. If you know about it then you can only be gluten vigilant and watch for any symptoms that suggest a neurological issue. 'Monitoring' in the case of ataxia would mean MRI testing - not something you...
  4. I like your name. Aren't we all. I will be trying the Frenkels but right now am having the vestibular training and after a month or so with that will be going to Tai Chi exercises. This was recommended by neurologist. As you no doubt know. Parkinson's is a catch all for everyone of has a tremor or a gait problem that doesn't have some very obvious explanation...
  5. The following is a reply from Cover Girl regarding their products: Thanks for contacting Cover Girl. I'm not certain if you're inquiring because of Celiac disease so I'll include that information as well: We know Celiac is a serious disease, so we want to give you clear information regarding the use of our Cover Girl and other beauty care products...
  6. Sorry for the double post. I was trying to correct the 'see below' and I messed up. Claire
  7. HI - I have already posted a long reply to the initial message. Yes, yes, yes - be concerned about brain health. I am a good/bad example. Note my comments about the neurologist who recomments gluten free for all his patients with cerebellar degeneration. Even if it is not the cause, apparently it acts as an irritant and can make bad matters worse. Also...

  9. I have a fairly recent diagnosis of cerebellar ataxia. I have a medical background, am familar with neurological diseases (in general) and am doing ongoing research on the subject. I will provide here a little personal history before discussing ataxia. I may or may not have celiac. As I was on a diet (for 15 years) that eliminated bread and just about...
  10. I found it! At the same time found that our local Giant has just added a Gluten Free Section and has items not carried by the local Health Store. They had the pasta - many varieties. Lots of other selections too. I had it for supper tonight. It is very good. Thanks again. We can put this thread to bed. Mission accomplished. Claire
  11. Gee thanks. You are also nice - and so helpful. Very glad I joined this forum. Whole Foods isn't handy but I do get there every couple of months so that is where I will look first. Going there in a couple of weeks. When my local health store orders in anything I wind up paying so much more for it than I would elsewhere. That's because they order such small...
  12. Has anyone found a source of this product aside from ordering online? Claire
  13. Hi skoki-Mom - My observation of friends, neighbors and family members on Atkins is that there is nothing wrong with the diet - it's the people on the diet that are the problem. They don't use common sense. Eliminating carbs is one thing. Thinking you can then 'tank up' on high fat foods - stuff with ice cream and eat fatty meats - by the pound - is ridiculous...
  14. Agreed - the body's response is the best test of all. However the are good reasons to pursue a definitive, in print diagnosis. Celiac is genetic. Family members are usually reticient if not outright antagonistic. They need to be tested as well - whether or not they have symptoms. Your self diagnosis won't convince anyone and family do need to be convinced...
  15. This reply is a half truth. MSG comes from glutamate which is synthesized in the brain ntaom from L-Gluatmine. Like many other things, none are 'bad' in their own right but can get out of balance and then you have too much of a good thing. Too much glutamate is not a good thing. People with neurological disorders - MS, celiac/gluten ataxia, LGS may have...
  16. You might also try sweet rice flour (hard to find sometimes) and Teff. Claire
  17. I made myself a rule - never, never go back to a doctor that laughs at me. I think this might apply to you also. All that misery is bad enough without having a doctor that might as well be one of the three stooges. The answer is out there. You just need the right detective to help you find it out. Claire
  18. As I understand it the DNA markers cannot prove that you have celiac- only that you are genetically speaking a candidate for celiac. Without the marker you could not have celiac - with it you COULD have celiac but may not have it. Make sense. Someone correct me please if this is incorrect. Claire
  19. Thanks for reply. I have a hair loss problem and Nioxin is the only product that has helped. I am hesitant to give it up. Some of the posts indicate that you do not absorb it through the skin - that transference is the issue. Surely if one was very careful to wash hands thoroughly after shampoo it would seem not to be a big threat. The hair spray is another...
  20. Been there - done that! Type II, Delayed Food Reactions - all grains except rice and oats, corn. dairy,, eggs, Crab, shrimp, pork, lobster, most tropical fruits, bananas. all types of beans. The worst thing is that when I find a food I can eat and eat it for awhile - then I can't eat it anymore. When I first went on restrictions I ate lots of bananas...
  21. Have you added any new vitamins or herbal supplements? This can cause a change in urine odor - usually just once a day. Claire
  22. Thanks. I am iffy on soy. I do drink the milk but don't really eat solid soy products, Dairy is out, also eggs, corn - every know variety of bean, most tropical fruits, shellfish. Hard for a girl to get a tasty meal. Claire
  23. Makes good sense. I have used Nioxin products for about a year and it is the first product that has made any difference with the hair loss problem. I would hate to give it up. I have used the hair spray - best one I ever had. So it goes. thanks.
  24. Thanks sunni. I am looking to make quick breads that don't turn out like bricks. I would pass on the flours that come from peas or beans - these are not friends of mine. Where do you find Kinnikinnick products? I have not seen this brand but it is mentioned frequently on this forum. I see you have a lot of food issues. Me too. It makes it harder...
  25. Thanks. Do you have a recipe available for the injera? Do you still make it? What flours?
