Gina - Do let us all know how your casein testing plan works out. See separate post on genetic testing. Claire -
As a safety measure, I do not eat oats. There is a high risk of contamination. Claire

ARCHIVED Casein Antibodies
Claire replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A few words here that may help or otherwise further confuse you. I have had Type II, Delayed Food Reactions and subsequent Leaky Gut Syndrome for at least 15 years (that was the point of diagnosis). I was symptomatic for more than 10 years before that. I have researched this subject to the point of boredom! I do not have a Celiac diagnois - at least... -
Are you sure B comples is causing the mouth sores? I ask because the mouth sores are common for people with celiac. Claire

A couple of suggestions for the 'itching ones'. Anithistimines work but a steady of diet of these is not healthy and tends to make some people loopy. There is a medication for ulcers called Axid (150mg). It was accidently discovered that this helped the itching of psoriasis. One pill is usually enough to calm down the itching - takes an hour or so...

I like that 'bunk' line. I am sure you are right. I truly believe that the ads have it only half right. It is the genetic disease that causes the hair loss - not that the hair loss itself is genetic. Wonder when someone 'significant' will grasp this idea. Claire

ARCHIVED Can't Have Casein. 'pure' Whey Ok?
Claire replied to cornbread's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think it was contaminated buckwheat. I would bet on contamination. Find another source, it is too good to pass up. That is especially true when you have diet limitations. I have eaten Buckwheat for ages without any problems and I can't tolerate a piece of bread. Claire -
All those ads on TV for hair restoration products talk about the fact that hair loss is hereditary. Well - so is Celiac. Wouldn't it be interesting to find out how many people - especially women who are losing their hair - also have Celiac Disease. My grandmother lost her hair, My mother lost her hair. I am losing my hair. My celiac question remians...

I only just saw this post. Maybe you are still tracking it. Your Naturopath is not doing so well. She should know that hair loss is frequently caused by Celiac. Also telling you that you could still eat "barley and kamut, oats, etc." is negligent. These foods are absolutely not gluten-free (except for oats which is considered to so so wheat contaminated...

ARCHIVED Can't Have Casein. 'pure' Whey Ok?
Claire replied to cornbread's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just a reminder. Buckwheat is not grain - in spite of the unfortunate name. "a member of the genus Fagopyrum; annual Asian plant with clusters of small pinkish white flowers and small edible triangular seeds which are used whole or ground into flour " Commercial buckwheat can get contaminated in processing, of course. There are safe sources. Claire -
Amen to richard's remark about doctor's. Believe me you can find out more on this forum than you will from most doctors. There are exceptions of course but generally you won't get much into or you will get bad information - which is even worse. Claire

ARCHIVED Diagnosed In Childhood- Now Adult
Claire replied to KatieKat's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go gluten-free by all means. When you have insurance or the funds to be tested you could go with the Enterolab test (insurance iffy?) or with Kimbal labs. Most insurances will pay for Kimball. This is a genetic test - done by cheek swab. It will determine if you have the specific gene markers associated with celiac. Having them doesn't mean that you have... -
ARCHIVED Can't Have Casein. 'pure' Whey Ok?
Claire replied to cornbread's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Whey is the serum or watery part of milk that is separated from the curd in making cheese There ae two main proteins in milk - casein and whey. Whey protein is derived from he process where milk is turned into cheese. The milk protein whey is separated from the casein protein. Seems like contamination would be an issue. Claire -
ARCHIVED All Or Nothing?
Claire replied to JenM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am coming in late on this post. I also have ataxia - cause under investigation. I have been told my several different neurologists - get the gluten out - regardless of the cause of the ataxia. Gluten is a neurotoxin and contributes negatively to neurological disorders of all kinds. One doctor told me all his patients are asked to go gluten-free/ Cutting... -
ARCHIVED Casein Antibodies
Claire replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Tiffany - we all do a lot of wishful thinking. Casein antibodies are not caused by leaky gut. The casein protein gets into the blood stream via leaky gut. The physiology of leakg gut is complex and sort of becomes a viscious circle. I do believe that, as a percaution if nothing else, casein like gluten should go for good if you have tested positve... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Called Me A Hypochondriac
Claire replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
In the interest of your future health you need to establish whether or not you have Celiac. If you do and you continue to ingest gluten you are going to pay a high price eventually. Been there, done that (not intentionally - did not know that gluten was the problem - in had been identified only as grains). I now have acquired autoimmune fibromyalgia as well... -
ARCHIVED Casein Antibodies
Claire replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi there. Congratulations. The response from cornbread is excellent. Sorry to say that casein is with you for life but that is what all the research I have done has turned up. She is, I believe, right about the villi. I know positively that she is right about the gluten/casein similarity. For that reason it would seem wise to stay away from it. ... -
ARCHIVED My Husband Called Me A Hypochondriac
Claire replied to Nantzie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Nantzie - some real good thinking here! So glad to see that you are not letting other people's attitudes deter you from the pursuit of an accurate diagnosis. I am a tenacious researcher and I hang on like a dog with a bone when I am hunting something. I have to remind myself that this is not something that others may care to do. The researching is just... -
ARCHIVED Help From You With Other Food Intolerances !
Claire replied to jenvan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You can call Immuno Labs number and they will answer any questions. York Labs also does the same tests. Immuno as other labs are, testing for sensitivity reactions to foods - specifically the Delayed Food Allergy. Unlike common food allergies that are immediate responses and can be fatal, the Delayed Food Allergy produces 'delayed' symptoms and is... -
ARCHIVED L-glutamine
Claire replied to Emme999's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Glutamine is not an artificial food. It is used extensively in sports medicine, recommended by many GI specialist for it's remarkable performance in healing intestinal lesions (leaky gut). Some neurologists have reservation about significant supplementation for patients with MS or other neurological conditions especially those involving the cerebellum... -
ARCHIVED Confused W ?'s About Diet
Claire replied to brice1401's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oops. Here I am again to groan over any indication that a small amount of gluten may slow down progress but only do "a small amount of damage". The example a neurologist gave me will be offered here yet again. A grain of gluten put into a petri dish with a drop of blood from a celiac patient will initiate an almost immediate reaction that can be sustained... -
ARCHIVED I Dont Know How I Am Going To Do This
Claire replied to melisadki's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Many places that make their own - jerky, sausage etc. will tell you that it is gluten free BUT they cannot speak for the spices they use as those are not their own but purchased. We have a place that makes wonderful chicken sausage but when we had it the other night, I got suspicious of it. Had been assured it was gluten-free. Claire
