  1. here is a list of some ebooks at amazon. prices really vary. it's hard to filter on just "guides" rather than cookbooks. you can also preview the contents before you buy to see if the book goes in the direction you want. if you're an amazon prime member, some books are free through the kindle lending library (something i *really* need to check out sometime...
  2. I retreat to my safe food -- mostly chicken and rice. Light veggies. Seriously, I focus on what I know is safe and let my body do its thing. I've heard tales of foods/enzymes/whatever that help clear your system, but I am skeptical. It takes time for your system to clear -- and the amount of time depends on your body. As for symptoms, we're all different...
  3. feeling super-trendy after reading this: http://t.co/SFTRYgurMK

  4. I stick to the basics when I grocery shop: meat section, dairy section, fruits and veggies section. While there are foods with gluten in these areas, most of these foods are naturally gluten free. For grains, rice is a good choice, and many stores now stock quinoa. If you stick with real foods, you can eat very well without making a lot of side trips to pick...
  5. (or, wow, so happy/sad for you and your great/horrible news from three days ago.)

  6. okay, have figured it out: Facebook is doing psychological experiment on just me. it’s called “only show posts from 12 hours ago or longer”.

  7. and the long weekend has begun. now to, you know, take a nap.

  8. encountered type of problem only @jmiyazawa understands: a spouse who puts the knives in the wrong slot. to every knife, there is a spot.

  9. should note husband is not gluten free, i am. he is better gauge of “good” when it comes to this stuff. my taste buds have forgotten things.

  10. i relied on the kind bars to get me through my marathon training (and, to be honest, pf chang's gluten-free fried rice after!). for me, i usually hit the proteins hard since i'm not much of a fruit person. love the idea of risotto -- such a good idea.
  11. so, wow, what a list. you seem pretty clear on what you need to do, but wanted to add some kind of non-iron skillet to your list. not sure what you're cooking, but a non-scratched stainless or non-stick is always useful. i'd toss the sponge after cleaning. and i'd give your parents a huge extra hug for going the extra mile. this is a big challenge for them...
  12. still not sure what is in greenies, but it makes a a groggy washu go crazy. she yelled at me until i made the greenies happen.

  13. washu may be a cat, but she knows today is not going to be a good one for her. lack of breakfast=trip to vet for the dreaded teeth cleaning.

  14. need to respond to @katmeyer on the issue of beets. brain filled with so many thoughts, i may write a book and dedicate it to her.

  15. also a thousand other ingredients. what i’m lacking right now is inspiration. will exchange yours for food. lots of food.

  16. my favorite ladle had gone missing. trying not to panic.

  17. unrelated: making fried rice. key to great #glutenfree fried rice? fish sauce. you’re welcome.

  18. husband sent me contract to read. believe this is what they mean by busman’s holiday. or maybe he hates me?

  19. also, i don’t have say “no tomatoes” every time. in his defense, his predecessor was an institution. but the extra-hot salsa is magic stuff.

  20. technically, i am at inbox zero. if by zero, i only count the priority messages.

  21. decision to buy wine and kebabs was a good one. decision to walk to and from both stores, less brilliant. need ice bath.

  22. probably this should be expected, but am amused by how tv reviewers react to game of thrones deaths. if you’ve read the books…

  23. i’ll be honest: pretty much every time, i’ll believe what happened next.
