  1. I would invest in a crock pot if you don't already have one. You can look up recipes and cook a big portion. It's so easy to throw it all in there and cook it for the day, you can have left overs for the rest of the week. A lot of times I do a lot of my food prep on Sundays so that I just have to go to the fridge and grab stuff throughout the week.
  2. You are not alone! Gluten definitely affects me physically but it has a huge impact on my mood. I become depressed, anxious, brain fog and moody! It's awful!
  3. We use Canyon Bakehouse when we are in need of bread. It's very expensive though so we only use it when we absolutely need bread!
  4. I definitely don't feel well in the morning. But I usually get a burst of energy around 5 or 6pm, I try to use this time to get housework done. It definitely helps if I am able to lie down for a little bit in the early afternoon.
  5. I get VERY itchy when I've been glutened, it's miserable!!
  6. I am pretty new to this and keep making stupid mistakes as well. Mistakes that are making me sick and it makes me really mad when I do it. Just hang in there and do your best! I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone!
  7. Thank you so much!! I haven't been able to find a support group in our area. The closest doctor's that specialize in celiac disease that I can find are in Chicago. That really isn't that far from us but it would be easier to have someone in the area. I was thinking I would have to put my kids back on gluten and I was hoping I could do it over the summer...
  8. Hello! We took our children off of gluten in October 2012. My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder and we wanted to try diet changes before medicating her. After taking her off of gluten and dairy a lot of other symptoms that we thought were unrelated started to clear up. Having BM accidents in her pants, bloated belly, ear infections...
  9. What type of alcohol are you drinking?
  10. Okay, I just checked mine and it just has water and kosher salt!!
  11. I better check my chicken. Normally we buy all of our meat from our local butcher but recently I bought a big bag of Purdue frozen chicken breasts from Costco to give them a try. Thank you for the heads up!
  12. This is such a learning experience figuring out what I can and can't tolerate. Unfortunately, I figure things out by getting sick.
  13. My family is going to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago over Spring Break. I am wondering if anyone knows of any safe and tasty restaurants that have gluten free options on their menu? It would have to be right near the aquarium because we won't be traveling far from there. My kids are gluten free as well so a place with kid friendly options would be best! Thank...
  14. Thank you for your response! I guess I will have to figure out which one made me sick and then stay away from it. Here I thought I found a completely safe food. UGH!
  15. I had a bowl of Cinnamon Sugar Chex with Rice Dream Vanilla rice mile for a snack about 2 hours ago. Now my stomach hurts terribly, I have D and I'm having a hard time staying awake. Has anyone had problems with these things? I bought both of them because I wanted something easy that I didn't have to think much about, being newly diagnosed I tend to get overwhelmed...
  16. Thank you for the heads up on this! I bought the Groupon!
  17. I hope my family and friends get to that point as well. I have a very supportive husband but I get the feeling he thinks I'm being dramatic. I wish I could find a good documentary for him to watch so he can understand it a little better! I'm terrified to eat in restaurants, there is one here in town that has a dedicated cookware and fryers. The owners...
  18. I think anything would be better than the itching!
  19. I wonder if Benedryl would help the itching?! I will definitely be popping some Imodium in the morning though!
  20. Oh okay, gotcha!! I think I just look at all of the ingredients and get overwhelmed! I know I'll get it, it will just take time!
  21. Yes it does! I'm volunteering in my Daughter's class tomorrow and dreading how I'll feel playing with 28 first graders!
  22. Oh man!! That totally stinks, I bet she felt bad! The week I got diagnosed I had a class at church and they offered dinner. My pastor's wife told me that the lady that cooked the meal made it entirely gluten free just for me. I felt bad but told her I'd have to pass. This lady made the meal in her home and their family isn't gluten free. I felt like a...
  23. Good suggestions!! And I already know which lunch meats I can have. I have certainly learned my lesson, I can't wait for the kids to go to bed so I can curl up in a ball in bed.
  24. By "other names" I meant that long list of forbidden foods, they don't all say, wheat, rye, and barley. Or some spices have an anti-caking agent that contains gluten. I guess I'm just very overwhelmed by all of the unknowns. And while I had the shakes this morning I was feeling frantic and needed to eat. I'm considered pre-diabetic so I get hit with low...
  25. Yes, the "wheat free" thing gets me. Do companies do that on purpose to confuse people with gluten issues? Sheesh!! I still don't have down all of the "other" names for gluten so I've just been not eating something if I don't recognize the ingredients. I just can't believe I did that. I'm SO itchy know, it's driving me nuts. Not to mention all of the other...
