  1. I have to agree, it takes the joy out of eating out! It makes for a nervous experience. I hardly ever eat out. It seems I am very sensitive. Plus if I do get glutened I stay sick for about a month. I just don't have that kind of time! Especially for a burger.

  2. The good news is that I did not get sick! I just hate that feeling when I am eating out and wondering as I am eating if this is going to make me sick. They were very nice but you never know what goes on in the kitchen.

  3. I feel like everytime I eat out I am gambling! It is so frustrating. Went out and had a lettuce wrap burger. They cooked it in a skillet and not on the grill. I could not have the fries because they also fry flour tortia strips in the oil. I was very thankful for their honesty.

Now I just feel as if I am waiting for a reaction. Then of course starts the whole did I will myself into a reaction. Ugh, just hate it. Had to vent!

  4. I would also reccomend talking to your doc before hand as well. I eat the gluten-free oats from the company in Wyoming and have enjoyed them. I only eat these oats. I do not eat anything from the grocery store that contains oats (thinking cereal) because of the cc. You should also do some research as well to figure out what the thoughts are from "experts" regarding the issue.

  5. Kraft will clearly label gluten on the label. Read a Kraft label and if you do not see gluten it is safe. I use the buttermilk ranch dressing.

However, you are right. Nothing beats the taste of Hidden Valley. When I was first dx, several years ago, the company said it was not safe. I really have no idea why. Last time I read the bottle it looked fine to me. But it is not worth being sick over so I skip it and go to the Kraft.

  6. My family and I recently went to Houston to see family. I tried asking for info on restaurants in Houston and came up with nothing! It was very frustrating. We ended up eating out once at a newer PF Chang's. Had a good experience. I know this will sound crazy but I wanted to eat at a newer one because I felt the kitchen would be better set up for the gluten-free menu. My thought being that an older restaurant would have been built prior to the gluten-free menu and the kitchen not set up as well. I truly am crazy  But I did have a good experience.

  7. Last year we had bean packets over the fire. Layer gluten-free beans (we used Bush's orignal), layer of cut up hot dog (hebrew national), then toppings of choice: pineapple, green onion, peppers, additonal barbeque sauce.

We have also done tacos. Make the meat and cut up the toppings ahead of time so you just warm up the meat and assemble.

Nuts and dried fruit, vegies and dip, fresh fruit (skip the bannana, I can not get them to travel well), lunch meat and cheese roll ups.

    Have a great trip.
