  1. I ate mashed potatos with butter only, sweet potatos, turkey that was the furthest from the stuffing and while everyone else was having pie, I made a desert that was sugar walnuts, ice cream, choclate syrup and whipping cream. Now I am sick but don't know why. I was so proud of myself because my mom makes the very best dinner rolls I have ever had and I...
  2. While we are on the topic of where we live I got curious about the heritage of everyone. I have often heard that people of a certain descent have a higher incident of developing celiac disease. I think it was European and I thought it might be fun to see if that was true. My father was of german descent and my mother is dutch. I also was wondering how...
  3. I tried eating oats and got very sick. I am of the mind now that I will let someone else try these things out. From what I understand if the oats are made in the U.S. they are not gluten free.
  4. Dear dubhl179 I think that what may of happened is that you took the gluten out of your diet prior to the test so the blood work came back fine. (this is only a theory) As awful as it is to get sick if it were me I would put it back in and then have the blood work done. Then the biopsy, which this soon in the process should show damaged villi. I...
  5. I have the Clanthompson list downloaded on my computer. It has a lot of useful information. The only problem with it is that I can't take it with me to the grocery store.
  6. Dave that is just too funny! A hearing aid nobody wants to wear! I am frustrated with the people that "assume" it is just a wheat allergy, I wish!
  7. Hi Mark: I really hope that you feel better soon. I know what you are saying when you say after you find out what is wrong we should feel better. It is not always that way though, I struggle with it often. I read in a medical journal that something like 40 percent of the people do not heal. I am not sure about the Bentyl, I also take it but when I...
  8. Hi Weebits I would go ahead and have the biopsy done to see if you have flattening of the villi. The only concern that I can see is that if you are gluten free for a while before you have the test the villi may heal depending on how severe it is. The thing about the coloncospy is that my dr. did it and I am glad he did. He removed three pre-cancerous...
  9. Be patient you will heal. Also, be sure to check all of your medications aganist the gluten free list to be sure you are not getting gluten that way. Good luck and any time you want to talk we are here!
  10. Hi Jynix's mom: So did you have the blood drawn on yourself or your child? What were the results? Sometimes they do a full panel screening which includes testing for this to see why a person is ill and then it shows celiac disease. Is that what happened? Was a biopsy done yet? Hope all is well
  11. I am also the only celiac in my family. I have tried to research back to see if anyone had this. My grandfather had colitis, and a cousin had chron's disease. Because of the symptoms I think my dad may of had it but he died of cancer in 99. I think there are probably others and they just were never tested for it. I also wonder if family members have...
  12. I just went to the Living Without website and requested a copy of their magazine. It looks like they have a lot of information. I'll let you know if they respond.
  13. I agree with the answers above. Just be careful not to ingest gluten and your chances will be the same as most of the population. I do wonder, since this is an immune disorder if it gives us greater odds of getting other immune disorders?
  14. I don't know about Culvers but I would caution you to be careful. I had a burger without the bun at Jack in the box and got very ill. When I went back they stated they use oats in the meat. I have found that McDonald's burgers are ok. Just be careful!

Dear Lynn R. I am so sorry that you are feeling the way you are. I have found that a lot of people don't understand what this disease does to us. It seems a lot of people assume that it is just a wheat allergy and not a big deal. It sometimes feels like people think that we just need to get over it. People don't understand that this rules our whole...
  16. Thank-you for your help Scott.
  17. Now I am really confused. I hope we can continue to support each other as this is a very difficult disease to cope with on our own. I also believe that this forum works well as we can relate and understand each other. I would also hope that we can ask anything. So, not to rub any sore spots but I do have a question. I had read that any turkey that is...
  18. I went to the Celiac Conference at Stanford last month. They had a bread there from a company named I can eat that an e-mail address of icaneatthat@comcast.net that tasted just like regular bread. They also had pizza dough. I e-mailed them and they wrote back that they are only selling in Berkely California for now but they would let me know as soon as...
  19. I totally agree they don't know as much as we can learn ourselves. It is really upsetting to pay to see a specialist and have them say they don't know much about it. I had been wondering about kosher food because I have seen it noted on a lot of gluten-free food, thanks for the information. The one I went to said not to eat salad because it is very hard...
  20. As I look back I can't help but wonder if the celiac was causing a lot of gynecological problems. I was always very irregular, couldn't get pregnant and took fertility drugs for over two years in order to get pregnant with my first two children. My periods were also very irregular and heavy and I had awful cramps since I was a teenager. It does make me...
  21. I can remember when I first noticed something was wrong. I got sick on my way to work probably about 18 years ago. I didn't go to the doctor because I thought it was the flu. I continued to get sick, went to the doctor and he told me I had irritable bowel. Then I was so embarrassed that I didn't go back for several years. I got very ill and lost twenty...
  22. I have the same type of problems as you. I had my doctor check my vitamin B levels, Vitamin K, and Folic Acid. Also have him/her check you for anemia. My body ended up with lower than normal levels of all these and I was put on medication for this. My levels still run low. Also, be sure to have a bone density test because this disease can take the nutrients...
  23. My only concern would be that I was told that any cheese that is pre-shredded has gulted in it to keep it from sticking together.
  24. I thought I had read on here that the bar-b-q sauce at McDonalds was gluten free, but I got really sick and then read the top and it contains wheat. Just thought I would share. One other thought, I received an e-mail that said a university was researching celiac and wanted some answers to questions. I answered them and it ended up being a business that...
