  1. I have been gluten-free since June and I just figured out that potatoes are making me very sick. Does anyone know why we get other food intolerances after going gluten-free? Also, can some people eat other members of the nightshade family? I have been too scared to eat tomatoes, peppers, etc. because the potato reaction is very painful and lasts a long...
  2. I eat Celimix all the time. I've had the brownies, muffins, pancakes, and bread mix. I just add nuts, fruit or chocolate to improve them slightly. I add molasses to the bread to give it a better colour. I think the Kinnickinnick bread is gross, so I've only been making Celimix bread. I will start baking completely from scratch hopefully soon, but I don...
  3. As mentioned Safeway, Save-On foods, Planet Organic and Nutters. All of which are in Canada.
  4. I don't have a diagnosis either. I've been gluten-free since June 9th and my doctor said to go out and have a glutenous meal after three months of being gluten-free and then I would know for sure. But I have been too chicken to try gluten because I feel so great not having it.
  5. I can't offer much help, but I am very jealous. I have always wanted to go to Iceland and Mongolia. I know that in Iceland, they eat a lot of fish and some wild game meats.
  6. Wow am I happy to live in Canada. My doctor sends me for every blood test she can every year. She also sends me to specialists when needed. I can't imagine having to go through insurance for a blood test. I feel for you.
  7. I think they do the colonoscopy to rule everything out that they can. Bobcat girl, I feel the same way as you. My blood tests were negative for celiac disease and I feel great on the gluten-free diet. I too don't ever want to go back to eating gluten again. My doctor said the biopsy would give a definitive answer, but what if it doesn't? The fact...
  8. I was sick of being sick and being told that I couldn't have celiac disease because my blood tests were negative and that I couldn't have it because no one in my immediate family has it (that we know of). So I went gluten-free and I have never felt better. Your doctor sounds very unprofessional. I know where I live in Canada it is very hard to find a doctor...
  9. I've never used an antacid. No one in my family has receding gums and I have had a dental plan my whole life. So the gluten connection I find very interesting.
  10. Thanks Karen. I too thought the delphi list was only for Americans. I downloaded the list which I think will be very useful.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I'm really not looking forward to the gumk graft. If only I had gone gluten-free earlier. But that's only if there is a connection.
  12. Are the receding gums a part of celiac disease? I have just been told that I need a gum graft for my receding gums. I wonder if there is a celiac disease connection?
  13. You know maybe if our doctors had to sprint to the nearest bathroom at any second at any time of day they might actually try to figure out what we had and not just tell us to pop an anti-depressant. Of course we're depressed but that's because we can't go anywhere without worrying about crapping our pants.
  14. I was diagnosed with IBS (aren't we all?) and my doctor said I couldn't have celiac disease because my blood test was negative. But I have been gluten free for three and a half months I feel great. I'm not scared to go somewhere without a bathroom. I am also very thin. It is expensive to go gluten-free, but for a little piece of mind knowing that you...
  15. I take Jamieson too. Some of Webber Naturals are also gluten-free.
  16. Hey detox, thanks for posting your M&M habit. I had no idea that I could eat those. What other chocolate goodies are safe in Canada?
  17. No I have never seen Domino's sugar here. So just to be safe I e-mailed the company that I would normally use. I keep reading conflicting info. on sugar and spices. I guess my safest option is contacting the companies.
  18. I know how you feel abput christmas. My dad is the best baker, and I won't be able to eat any of it. I find it tough to go to my parents house because I have to bring my own spices and they now cook very carefully for me but I still get sick when I go there. The holidays will be difficult. But on the bright side I saw a gluten-free stollen (a kind of...
  19. Yes my husband eats gluten foods like bread and cereal. But all the cooked meals are gluten-free. I never thought about the wooden spoons being contaminated. Thanks for your help.
  20. I have only been gluten-free for three months and I am still getting sick sometimes. I've switched all of my spices to the McCormick green label (in Canada). Do I have to buy special salt and sugar. I have been using sea salt and unrefined cane sugar, but do I really have too? There seems to be a lot more info. for U.S. products than for Canadian ones...
  21. Jane I know how you feel. I have been gluten-free since June 9th and any morsel of gluten makes me very sick. I think it is more difficult to train our tastebuds when we are over 30!
  22. I am from Alberta. I've been reading the various posts for awhile and I decided I should join. I was diagnosed with IBS but nothing seemed to help the D until three months ago when I went gluten-free. It has been getting better every day. My blood tests were negative so my doctor didn't really think that the gluten-free diet would be successful. Anyway...
  23. I just joined too and I am also from Canada. I'm pretty close to your age Lori. What a strange thing to find out you can't eat gluten when you are in your 30's.
