  1. I'm no expert but if his villi are rounded, meaning some damage, isn't that good evidence? His doctor doesn't seem very informed.
  2. Sorry, I wasn't doubting your allergies, I just don't think I have any food related allergies. I am interested in intolerance testing, though.
  3. The contamination issue is that oats are grown on the same fields as wheat, cultivated with the same machines and transported in the same containers. So, it's not that you can get some expensive uncontaminated oats at the health food store. Apparently there is one supplier of uncontaminated oats in the UK. I think that's where they were from.
  4. My knowledge of allergies is that you have an anaphalaxis (sp?) and/or hives type of reaction. Gastro or other stomach problems are not a true allergy, but may be due to an intolerance.
  5. I know what you mean SK8ing about feeling silly not eating gluten when you do not have a celiac diagnosis. I feel that way a lot. But then I think about how sick I was before going gluten-free and think maybe I shouldn't feel silly.
  6. Yes that is exactly what I am referring to. The problem is the only recipes I have found call for using some brand of premixed gluten-free flour. I am in Canada and I like to shop at a store not on-line so I can't get all the mixes advertised in the recipes. So, I would rather mix my own, if anyone knows of a good straight flour substitute. Plus I am...
  7. You know the more I think about it, I don't think the full blood panel was done with my blood tests. My doctor only mentioned two results. I'll have to ask to see what was actually tested.
  8. Alesse and Desogen (aka Marvelon in Canada) are two gluten-free ones that I know of.
  9. Does anyone have a stollen recipe or know how I could modify a traditional recpe into a safe one?
  10. Some gelatin is also made from pork (I think specifically it said pigs ears?). I saw this kind at an organic health food store.
  11. I've been using the Fleischmann Lactose-free margarine in a tub. These are from their website FAQ section: Which of your products contain gluten? We are sorry to inform you that we do not have a source that lists the gluten content of our products. However, our product labels list common allergens; such as wheat, for those allergic to wheat gluten...
  12. They use Silk Soy which is gluten-free.
  13. Thanks Claire. Yeah it sounds kind of labour intensive. But it could be very rewarding.
  14. It is tough financially to eat unlike the mainstream. Especially since I am a student. The only meals that my husband has that contain gluten are breakfast (cereal) and lunch (bread and deli meat). Everything else that is in my house is gluten-free. I find it is just easier to create one gluten-free supper. But I don't have kids, so I can't help you...
  15. How do you make yogurt from organic milk? Do you just use a cheese cloth and wait? Okay, I just would love to try some dairy again and not have any gi symptoms.
  16. You know if 1 in 90 people have celiac, than the drug companies would actually benefit if more people were not diagnosed. So many people with IBS rely on so many medications that in my opinion may just be masking their symptoms. I am trying to spread the word about trying the gluten-free diet when all else fails on an IBS forum that I am a part of. I never...
  17. I had to stop eating Van's waffles too. And they were so good, but not worth the negative reaction.
  18. I was just taken out to a five star restaurant the other week. The chef was aware that I was Gluten-free Casein-free. So the salad on the menu stated balsamic dressing, but the chef only put oil and some cracked salt and pepper on the salad. He must have thought the balsamic was unsafe. I left everything in his hands and I did not get sick. I think he...
  19. I think when citric acid is made in a country other than the USA, its source needs to be questioned.
  20. Everyone in grade school gets screened in Italy. I think Sweden is now doing the same. Wouldn't it be great if Canada and the US did the same.
  21. I was wondering about the seaweed tamari one. I will definitely try it, thanks guys.
  22. We got that wheat litter for free when we adopted our cats and one of them liked it so much he ate it. So, I went right back to the clay.
  23. I wish I could help you. If there is some way you could get a rice cooker from a thrift shop or charitable organization or something. They sure make cooking rice like no work at all.
  24. Maybe I'm being chicken, but I'm not comfortable getting into this discussion here. I think it may be a little controversial and may upset some people. It just had to do with our beef industry and what we haven't learned from the UK's mistakes. There is a reason that the EU does not import Canadian or US beef. It has to do with a growth hormone that the...
  25. This is from the Quaker Canada website in the FAQ section. I'm not sure how current it is. Maybe the Canadian products are different which is probably why I am confused. Do you have any gluten-free products? * Although The Quaker Oats Company of Canada primarily produces products that are grain-based, we do have a few gluten-free products. Most...
